Gal Gadot blames ‘pressure on celebrities to speak out against Israel' for box office failure of Snow White
Her co-star, Rachel Zegler, showed her support for Palestine while promoting the film, writing on X: 'i love you all so much! thank you for the love and for 120m views on our trailer in just 24 hours! what a whirlwind. i am in the thick of rehearsals for romeo + juliet so i'm gonna get outta here. bye for now. and always remember, free palestine.'
Shortly after the post, producer Marc Platt flew to New York to speak to the star. His son, Jonah, later called her actions 'immature' and said they were to blame for the film's poor reviews.
Gadot is Israeli and reportedly began to receive an increased number of death threats in the aftermath of Zegler's post, with Disney upping her security as a result.
As reported by the Jerusalem Post, Gadot said she 'really enjoyed filming' Snow White during an appearance on Israeli TV show The A Talks, adding she had 'even enjoyed working with Rachel Zegler'.
Gadot said she had been 'sure this movie was going to be a huge success', but 'then October 7 happened' and there was 'a lot of pressure' on celebrities in Hollywood 'to speak out against Israel'.
The actor went on to say she was 'disappointed' the film was 'greatly affected' by such pressure and 'didn't do well' at the box office as a result.
Marc Webb's live action remake had already been dogged by negative buzz over issues including uncertainty about their approach to the dwarves. Speaking in 2022, the actor Peter Dinklage called the film 'fucking backwards'.
'I was a little taken aback by [the fact] they were very proud to cast a Latina actress as Snow White,' Dinklage told podcaster Marc Maron, 'but you're still telling the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs'.
The film, whose production budget was an estimated $270m, ended up taking around $205m worldwide – a disappointing but not catastrophic result. Reviews, however, were almost universally negative, with the Guardian's Peter Bradshaw calling it 'exhausting awful'.
Gadot served as a combat fitness instructor in the IDF army for two years, including during the Israel-Lebanon war of 2006.
Speaking in 2024, Gadot spoke at the Anti-Defamation League's summit, saying: 'Never did I imagine that on the streets of the United States, and different cities around the world, we would see people not condemning Hamas, but celebrating, justifying and cheering on a massacre of Jews.'

In honoring Mickalene Thomas this spring as one of Time magazine's 100 most influential people of 2025, 16-time Grammy-winner Alicia Keys called the celebrated American contemporary artist 'a mastermind at conveying poignant messages through striking visuals.' 'Mickalene herself is walking art,' Keys wrote in her paean to the 54-year-old Brooklyn resident. 'She has such a distinct presence and aura that it's impossible not to feel inspired by her. The art and the artist both are bold, fearless, and fierce.' But Thomas' former fiancée Racquel Chevremont, who continued to partner professionally with Thomas following the pair's 2020 breakup, says the artist sexually harassed her, created a 'hostile' and 'abusive' working environment and shorted her out of millions of dollars over the course of their decade-long relationship. That's according to previously unreported court documents obtained by The Independent, which reveal Chevremont wants a minimum of $10 million from Thomas over allegations that include breach of contract, unjust enrichment, retaliation and violations of state and local human rights laws. Thomas's work can also be found in, among other places, MoMA, the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C., and Jay-Z's Manhattan offices. Thomas's 2016 mixed-media rendering of Chevremont, a well-regarded art curator and consultant who joined the Real Housewives of New York cast last year, sold at auction five years later for more than $1.8 million. Messages sent to Thomas's work and personal email addresses went unanswered. Chevremont's legal and management teams did not respond to requests for comment. In a summons and notice filed in New York State Supreme Court on August 8, Chevremont says she is now seeking 'redress for years of exploitation, nonpayment and unlawful conduct.' 'From 2012 to 2022, Ms. Chevremont, who is also Ms. Thomas' former fiancée, contributed immeasurably to Ms. Thomas' artistic and commercial success, acting as a strategic advisor, and liaison to galleries, collectors, and institutions,' the filing contends. 'Despite these work-related contributions, Ms. Chevremont was paid improperly for more than a decade, both as an employee and under a written agreement effective January 1, 2021, as well as for compensation prior to 2021 and for multimillion-dollar deals she negotiated on Ms. Thomas' behalf.' Chevremont was reportedly entitled to a 20 percent cut on sales of commissioned works she helped land. The filing further accuses Thomas of having 'illegally diverted significant funds and business opportunities from her and Ms. Chevremont's jointly-owned entity' to her own LLC. 'In addition to diverting funds and not properly compensating Ms. Chevremont, Ms. Thomas also subjected Ms. Chevremont to a hostile and abusive work environment as well as quid pro quo harassment,' the filing alleges. Following their split, it says Thomas 'repeatedly and improperly pressured Ms. Chevremont to resume their romantic relationship, and ultimately terminated Ms. Chevremont's employment, in violation of New York State and New York City Human Rights Laws, when she made it clear that this would never happen.' Chevremont is asking a judge to award her 'not less than' $10 million, plus interest, attorneys' fees and court costs. While they were together, Thomas and Chevremont billed themselves as ' Deux Femmes Noires,' and used their resources and connections to boost young Black and LGBT artists. The two first met in 2002, began dating in 2011, and were engaged in 2019, on New Year's Eve. Raised in the Bronx, Chevremont has appeared in ad campaigns for L'Oréal, Fila and Benetton. She has two children with ex-husband Corey Baylor, a New York City financier, and became the second-ever LGBTQ+ cast member on RHONY when she signed on for season 15. 'My entire adult life has been about representation and using whatever platform I have to get the voices of queer folks of the diaspora out there,' Chevremont told GLAAD in June 2024. 'What better way to do so if not as a member of this iconic franchise?' Bravo, which produces and broadcasts the reality series, announced at the time that Chevremont would be 'living out a fairytale' onscreen, and would not 'let past rumors from the New York art scene get in the way of her happily ever after." Tekashi 6ix9ine is grieving the shocking death of his longtime friend Ariela 'La Langosta' Mejia-Polanco, who was gunned down in New York over the weekend. She was just 33 years old. Authorities confirmed the social media star and Dominican fashion influencer was discovered in the driver's seat of her car on the Cross County Parkway in Westchester around 8 a.m. Sunday. Carlos Alcaraz was desperate for Emma Raducanu to be his dream partner
Certain tennis fans have spent the summer arguing that Carlos Alcaraz's mixed-doubles partnership with Emma Raducanu was the US Open's idea, and came about for commercial reasons, rather than being an organic arrangement between two old friends. Telegraph Sport is only too happy to torpedo this cynical view, which paints the tournament's marketing department as sport's answer to Mrs Bennet from Pride and Prejudice. In fact, the charismatic pairing was very much Alcaraz's preference. After being told about this 'reimagined' version of the US Open mixed doubles, which has been moved to the preliminary 'Fan Week' and granted a $1m (£740,000) first prize, he took only three days to settle on Raducanu as his ideal team-mate. 'We try not to get into the matchmaking business,' said Eric Butorac, the former doubles professional who has overseen this afternoon's groundbreaking event. 'In February and March, we went to a number of agents and players and told them what we were intending to do. We reached out to Carlos's team and explained the format. Albert [Molina, Alcaraz's agent] said, 'Yeah, I think we very much want to participate in this.' And I think it was not more than three days later that they called back and said, 'His partner will be Emma.' So we had nothing to do with that.' While the US Open's organisers may not have been involved in Alcaraz's choice, they must have been delighted to hear about it. The duo – whose variety of portmanteau nicknames will presumably settle down towards either 'Alcaranu' or 'Raducaraz' – are easily the most eye-catching of the 16 teams on show. This is largely due to all the speculation that has surrounded their social-media interactions. Since Raducanu's sudden emergence in 2021, Alcaraz has made a point of liking a high proportion of her posts. Fans have leapt to the conclusion that Alcaraz has a crush on Raducanu, and their decision to enter the mixed-doubles event together has only fanned the flames of speculation. According to those familiar with online fads, the intense interest around these two popular young players is part of a phenomenon known as 'shipping' – which is defined as 'the practice of fans desiring or imagining a romantic relationship between fictional characters or real-life individuals'. Raducanu has done her best to scotch the theories, informing reporters during Wimbledon that 'we're just good friends'. Previously, she had explained: 'I remember he beat Stef [Tsitsipas] in the third round [of the 2021 US Open] and it was like a big win, his breakout win on a big stage and it was really cool to kind of go through that tournament together. We have a good relationship still. He's obviously overtaken me a lot, but it's nice we have that from a while ago.' This was a side effect of Jannik Sinner's unfortunate illness in Cincinnati. Alcaraz and Sinner, who have shared the last seven major titles between them, contested the men's singles final on Monday afternoon. Had they fought out a three-hour barn-burner in Ohio's intense heat, Alcaraz might have thought twice before taking the court in New York less than 24 hours later. As it happened, Sinner was unwell, and retired from the match after only 23 minutes' play. In fact, it was their unexpected partnership which had originally given everyone the mistaken idea that the US Open had selected the teams. During a press conference on the eve of Wimbledon, Sinner had been asked why he was playing with Navarro. He shrugged, looked slightly confounded, and replied that 'the tournament wanted us to play together'. According to Butorac, though, this was a simple misunderstanding. 'Jannik did say that, which was funny, because I sat down with his team in Rome, and they were asking who was looking and I gave them a list of names. I don't want to say all the names, but they said, 'How about we go with Emma Navarro?' And I said, 'That's up to you guys.' 'Jannik said later that we had set them up,' Butorac told Telegraph Sport. 'But that was probably one of the bigger misconceptions. We didn't have that much of a hand in facilitating the teams. In the majority of cases, players just found a friend. Maybe they had a shared agent or a countryman or woman they wanted to play with. 'There were a few people that reached out. Sinner was one. I said, 'Well, here's four or five women that I've heard from that I know would be interested to play with you. Feel free to reach out to any of them.'
