Boxer Gervonta 'Tank' Davis arrested in South Florida on misdemeanor domestic violence charge
Davis, 30, was picked up shortly after midnight near the popular Lincoln Road area of Miami Beach, officials said.
The charge was connected to an incident that occurred last month in Doral, a residential city in western Miami-Dade, Miami Beach police spokesperson Christopher Bess said. Davis and his vehicle information had been added to a law enforcement database, and a license plate reader set up in Miami Beach flagged his car.
Miami Beach police made the initial stop and then turned Davis over to Doral police, Bess said.
Davis was being held on $10,000 bail. Jail and court records didn't list an attorney for Davis. His promoter didn't immediately respond to an email seeking comment.
Davis, who is from Baltimore, is in the regular conversation for best pound-for-pound boxer. The WBA lightweight champion won his first 30 bouts, 28 by knockout, with his devastating punching power drawing sellouts crowds from New York to Washington to Las Vegas.
But Davis was booed during his most recent fight. Despite being an overwhelming favorite, he underperformed March 1 in Brooklyn's Barclays Center but escaped with a majority draw against Lamont Roach that allowed Davis to retain his belt.
Referee Steve Willis' decision not to award Roach a knockdown in the ninth round ultimately changed the fight's outcome.
Whether that performance was a one-off for Davis or an indication of a declining fighter, crowds still likely will turn out to see Davis if and when he returns to the ring after his most recent legal trouble.
He was sentenced to 90 days of house arrest for a hit-and-run in November 2020 in Baltimore that injured several people. Davis eventually served the remainder of the sentence in jail after checking into a luxury hotel and then a new home without the court's permission.
Davis also was charged in two other domestic violence cases, both in South Florida. The first case was discharged, according to ESPN. The second was dismissed after the woman refused to press charges.

Judge set to decide on Alligator Alcatraz, groups argue irreparable harm to Everglades
The third day of a federal court hearing over environmental groups' attempt to halt the Alligator Alcatraz detention center ended Tuesday without a ruling. The groups are suing the state of Florida and the U.S. government, alleging the facility could cause "irreparable harm" to the Florida Everglades. "What we heard in (federal) court today really confirms the need for the public to see what's going on out there, to see the environmental disaster that is unfolding," said Eve Samples, executive director of Friends for the Everglades, one of the organizations that filed the lawsuit against the state of Florida, Miami-Dade County and the U.S. government. The groups are trying to convince U.S. District Judge Kathleen Williams that the facility is a threat to the wildlife and wetlands of the Everglades. "She's heard all of our witnesses. She heard the state's one witness, who admitted on the stand that they only looked at one site, and there are plenty of sites with runways and facilities and with wells in the ground that could have supported something like Alligator Alcatraz," said Curtis Osceola from the Miccosukee Tribe. Environmentalists sued the Trump and DeSantis administrations for what they consider dodging a federal law that requires environmental review before initiating any construction in the Everglades. Attorneys for the U.S. government left federal court without making any comments about the hearing. According to Samples, Judge Williams made an announcement that left many stunned in the courtroom. "We heard Judge Williams, for the first time, that Judge Williams was apparently extended an invitation by Attorney General James Uthmeier for a site visit. However, the attorneys for the defense did not agree to comply with that invitation," Samples said. The hearing continues Wednesday, with closing arguments from both the plaintiffs and the defense scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m. A decision about halting construction and operation at Alligator Alcatraz is expected before the end of the day.

Wife of South Korea's jailed ex-president arrested
South Korea's former first lady has been arrested over a string of charges including stock manipulation and bribery. Kim Keon Hee, 52, denied all charges against her during a court hearing on Tuesday that lasted four hours. The Seoul court issued a warrant to detain her late in the day, citing risks that she may destroy evidence otherwise. This is the first time in South Korea's history that a former president and his spouse are in jail at the same time. Kim's husband, former President Yoon Suk Yeol, was detained earlier to face trial over a failed martial law bid last year that plunged the country into political turmoil and eventually led to his ouster. Prosecutors say Kim, 52, made over 800 million won ($577,940; £428,000) by participating in a price-rigging scheme involving the stocks of Deutsch Motors, a BMW dealer in South Korea. While this allegedly happened before her husband was elected the country's leader, it continued to cast a shadow throughout his presidency. She allegedly also accepted two Chanel bags and a diamond necklace as bribes from the controversial Unification Church in exchange for business favours. Among other charges, Kim is also accused of meddling in candidate nominations during the parliamentary by-elections in 2022 and the general elections last year. Kim appeared solemn as she attended Tuesday's hearing wearing a black suit and a black skirt. "I sincerely apologise for causing trouble despite being a person of no importance," she told reporters. While he was president, Yoon vetoed three opposition-led bills that sought a special counsel investigation into allegations against Kim. He issued the last veto in November, a week before he declared martial law. A special counsel was set up in June this year after Yoon's rival Lee Jae Myung became president.
