Edinburgh hit one-man play BUFF coming to town
A one-man play about body image and social media jealousy is coming to Ipswich.
The Edinburgh Festival Fringe hit, "BUFF," will be performed at Eastern Angles on Saturday, May 31, as part of its UK tour.
The play, written by Ben Fensome and directed by Scott Le Crass, tells the story of a plus-sized, gay, primary school teacher who sublets his flat to an Instagram model after a break-up.
The play explores themes of dating, 'hook-up culture', and the harsh realities of online apps for people like the protagonist, played by Jamal Franklin.
BUFF will be performed at Eastern Angles on May 31 (Image: Kieran Vyas Photography) Ben Fensome said: "BUFF came out of a discussion Scott and I had about contemporary LGBTQ theatre and who usually gets featured in those stories, which actors get cast, what marketing usually looks like, etc.
"We wanted to explore a character that we hadn't seen be centred before, and out of that discussion, our character in BUFF was born.
"We've been really blown away by the response from LGBTQ audiences who have related to us how they haven't really seen a character be centred like this particularly in queer theatre.
"I hope it is a call out for the community to look out for each other more, and the centre point of that is, of course, the ability to love and accept ourselves."
The tour, presented by Emmerson and Ward Productions, will also visit Birmingham, Harrogate, Bath, Sale, Lancaster, Leicester, Banbury, Nottingham, Hull, Newcastle, and Bristol.
Tickets for the Ipswich show can be purchased from the Eastern Angles website.
The show is advised for audiences aged 15 and over with tickets costing £12 each.
The tour is supported by Curve and Arts Council England.

Final day of Des Moines' PrideFest kicks off
DES MOINES, Iowa — The final day of the PrideFest kicked off in the East Village on Sunday morning. The event is organized by Capital City Pride, a nonprofit whose mission is to bring together the LGBTQ+ community and host around 100 events and programs annually to inspire and educate. PrideFest is a three-day festival and is the nonprofit's largest event every year. It started 46 years ago when a group of people marched from the Iowa State Capitol to the Blazing Saddle in the East Village to demand rights for LGBTQ Iowans. Laurel Feakes is the Director of Public Relations for Capital City Pride. She said last year's PrideFest brought between 130,000 and 150,000 people to downtown Des Moines. The three-day event kicked off on Friday with vendors and acts performing on the Community Stage. Then on Saturday, the packed schedule featured events for families and kids, teens, pets, and more. The Main Stage also headlined acts like Ally and AJ. Sunday is the final day for the event. Early risers started their morning with yoga across the street from the Embassy Suits. PrideFest officially kicked off at 10 a.m. with a Pride Worship Service on the Main Stage. Recently, he showed off his drug use in an Instagram post as he shared a photo of himself smiling in an armchair while a massive bong sat in his lap. He also admitted to ripping off Hailey with a phone case used to hold blunts modeled after her patented Rhode lip gloss-carrying cases. In April, several people close to the singer expressed their worry for his mental health, telling the Hollywood Reporter that they feared he was falling apart mentally amid rumors of his financial troubles. 'Seeing him disintegrate like this … it's watching the embodiment of someone not living their purpose,' a former team member told the outlet. 'He's lost,' the former colleague continued.
