Who is the 'mysterious woman' on NYMag's controversial cover? MAGA fans can't get enough
A mysterious woman in a black lace dress has taken social media by storm after appearing on the cover of
New York Magazine's
controversial article on young MAGA supporters.
The cover, which featured a group of well-dressed conservatives at a Washington inauguration party, quickly became a viral sensation, with many fans dubbing the unidentified brunette their 'Roman Empire.'

'Bottom left is my Roman Empire,' a user wrote on X, with others praising her appearance and speculating about her identity. 'Legit beautiful. Could be a low-tier model or influencer, I'm sure,' one user commented, while another joked, 'Thanks to this picture, I just joined the Republican party, and I'm not even American.'

However, the magazine's cover has also sparked backlash after critics accused it of selectively cropping out Black attendees to push a misleading narrative. The event's host, conservative activist CJ Pearson, took to X to call out
New York Magazine
, writing, 'This is insane. I hosted this event and @NYMag intentionally left me out of their story because it would have undermined their narrative that MAGA is some racist cult.'

Other attendees also voiced their frustration, with one stating, 'I was at this party, as were MANY other Conservative media influencers who are Black, Latino, Asian, etc.'
The article itself painted the attendees as 'young, gleeful, and casually cruel,' describing them as a new wave of urban, well-connected conservatives breaking away from the traditional Trump supporter mold.
The journalist noted that the event was filled with 'crypto nerds, influencer girlies, and recent MAHA (Make America Hot Again) converts,' while also describing the women as 'hot enough to be extras in the upcoming
American Psycho
remake.'
As the controversy continues to unfold, the magazine's journalist has since locked their X account in response to the growing backlash. Meanwhile, the viral partygoer remains unidentified, adding to the intrigue surrounding the now-infamous cover photo.

Trump, Xi will 'likely' talk this week
US President Donald Trump and China's President Xi Jinping will likely hold a long-awaited call later this week, the White House said Monday, as trade tensions between the world's two biggest economies ratchet back up. Trump reignited strains with China last week when he accused the world's second-biggest economy of violating a deal that had led both countries to temporarily reduce huge tit-for-tat tariffs. "The two leaders will likely talk this week," Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters outside the West Wing when asked whether Trump and Xi would speak. Trump and Xi have yet to have any confirmed contact more than five months since the Republican returned to power, despite frequent claims by the US president that a call is imminent. Trump even said in a Time Magazine interview in April that Xi had called him -- but Beijing insisted that there had been no call recently. Stock markets around the world mostly slid on Monday as the US-China tensions resurfaced. Trump in early April introduced sweeping worldwide tariffs that targeted China most heavily of all, accusing other countries of "ripping off" the United States and running trade imbalances. Beijing and Washington last month agreed to slash staggeringly high tariffs on each other for 90 days after talks between top officials in Geneva. But Trump and top US officials Washington officials last week accused China of violating the deal, with Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick saying Beijing was "slow-rolling" the agreement in comments to Fox News Sunday. Beijing rejected those "bogus" US claims on Monday, and accused Washington of introducing "a number of discriminatory restrictive measures." AFP

Kesha faces backlash after provocative 'banana stunt' during Mighty Hoopla performance
Pop star Kesha stirred controversy over the weekend following a provocative performance during her headline set at London's Mighty Hoopla festival. The singer, 38, raised eyebrows while performing her new track Boy Crazy, during which she dropped to her knees and suggestively bit into a banana held at the waist of a male dancer — an act many online deemed 'vulgar' and attention-seeking. Wearing a red latex bodysuit and knee-high boots, Kesha mimicked an explicit act that drew immediate reactions from the audience. While the live crowd responded with laughter and cheers, a video of the stunt shared to Instagram quickly sparked criticism. Commenters labeled the display 'cringe' and 'embarrassing,' with some accusing the singer of resorting to shock value to stay relevant. 'Music is supposed to be art, not porn,' one viewer wrote, while another added, 'She's setting a very bad example.' -Instagram. Some compared the moment to other recent celebrity stunts, including Sydney Sweeney's controversial bath water merchandise, accusing artists of prioritising sensationalism over substance. Despite the online backlash, Kesha's performance was not without praise. Clips of her singing her hit ballad Praying were also shared on social media, with fans praising the emotional delivery. 'Incredible on so many levels,' one user wrote. 'You truly summed up the mood of the weekend.' The Mighty Hoopla appearance marked a mix of reactions for the American artist, with her bold stage antics drawing both applause and scorn — reflecting the divide over the role of theatrics and boundaries in modern pop performances.

US, China trade row could ease after Trump-Xi talks: Treasury chief Trump in early April introduced sweeping worldwide tariffs that targeted China most heavily of all, accusing other countries of 'ripping off' the United States and running trade imbalances. Trump has separately ramped up tensions with other trade partners, including the European Union, by vowing to double global tariffs on steel and aluminum to 50 percent from Wednesday.
