Top 5 South Africa players to look out for during T20I series vs Australia

After falling just short in a tri-series final against New Zealand in Zimbabwe, South Africa shift their attention to a crucial three-match series against Australia, a vital preparation phase ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup.
With several senior players returning, including captain Aiden Markram and pace ace Kagiso Rabada, the squad looks more balanced, yet the emphasis remains on experimentation and squad development.
The emergence of promising talents like Lhuan-dre Pretorius, Dewald Brevis, and Kwena Maphaka is central to South Africa's evolving strategy, as they aim to solidify their bench strength while fine-tuning roles across departments. This series offers a valuable platform for both youth and experience to shine on Australian soil.
Here are top 5 players from South Africa you need to look out for during the upcoming T20I series against Australia -
Dewald Brevis - Dewald Brevis has quickly emerged as a key player to watch ahead of South Africa's T20I series against Australia. He showed encouraging form during the recent Zimbabwe tri-series, finishing as South Africa's top run-scorer with 133 runs at a blistering strike rate of 187.32.
While he couldn't take his side over the line in the final, his intent and power-hitting were hard to miss. These were Brevis' first T20Is since debuting against Australia in 2023, and his progress since then has been closely tracked. With the 2026 T20 World Cup approaching, Brevis looks primed for a crucial middle-order role.
Lhuan dre Pretorius - Lhuan-dre Pretorius is another exciting young talent to keep an eye on in South Africa's T20I series against Australia. Included in the white-ball squad for the Darwin tour, Pretorius brings strong form and confidence, having finished as the top run-scorer in the SA20 earlier this year.
His ability to score quickly and adapt to different match situations makes him a valuable asset in the middle order. With South Africa looking to build a flexible and fearless batting unit ahead of the T20 World Cup, Pretorius will be eager to translate his domestic dominance onto the international stage against a high-quality Aussie attack.
Kwena Mphaka - Still just 19, Kwena Maphaka is quickly establishing himself as one of South Africa's most exciting young fast-bowling prospects and a definite player to watch in the upcoming T20I series against Australia. Fast-tracked into the senior setup, Maphaka has already featured in two Tests, two ODIs, and eight T20Is, collecting 18 international wickets across formats, an impressive return for someone so early in their career. His raw pace, aggression, and ability to strike early make him a serious threat, even against seasoned batting line-ups. Against a powerful Australian top order, Maphaka could have a breakout moment on the big stage.
Kagiso Rabada - Leading the pace attack again for the Proteas, Rabada is always a player to have your eyes on as he looks to take his side through to the finish line once again against a fierce threat by the Aussies in white-ball formats this time. Aiden Markram - Skipper Markram was pretty influential in the sides' triumph at Lord's against the Australians in the WTC final as his match winning final handed the title to his side. With the change in formats, Markam would be hoping to produce similar heroics in order to get the better of the a side that is ranked higher than them at the moment.

Tottenham's best XI: How Thomas Frank's Spurs could line up for the Premier League 2025-26 season

Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to quickly move on from this week's UEFA Super Cup defeat against Paris Saint-Germain when it begins the 2025-26 Premier League season against Burnley on Saturday. It will be the North London side's first league campaign under new manager Thomas Frank who arrived at the club as Ange Postecoglou's successor. The Australian coach was sacked days after leading Spurs to the UEFA Europa League title. For former Brentford coach Frank, the task would be to bring Tottenham back to challenging for Europe — last season the team finished at an all-time low 17th place in the Premier League era — but he will have to deal with not having the likes of James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski, with both midfielders being indefinitely ruled out due to injuries. Frank is known to favour the 4-3-3 formation. If one of Maddison or Kulusevski was fit, they could have slotted into that No. 10 role to facilitate a 4-2-3-1 shape as well, but the coach may stick to what he knows best. In the last two seasons in the Premier League, the Ghana forward registered 25 goal contributions in 65 appearances with West Ham United. Kudus is also not a stranger to European football, having scored five goals in nine appearances during West Ham's Europa League campaign in the 2023-24 season. This could come in handy as Tottenham returns to the UEFA Champions League after three years.

Sachin Tendulkar blasted for allowing India legend's honour be 'degraded': 'Sunil Gavaskar poore India ko hila deta'

Former India all-rounder Karsan Ghavri has taken aim at Sachin Tendulkar over not 'putting his foot down' after the decision to rename the 'Pataudi Trophy' as the 'Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy', calling it a 'degrading' act for Pataudi's cricketing legacy. The renamed trophy was contested for the first time in July-August this year, with the series ending in a 2-2 draw. Ghavri questioned how such a move was cleared in the first place and labelled it a disrespect to the memory of the Nawab of Pataudi, whose name had been synonymous with the contest for decades. The Pataudi Trophy was renamed to Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy before the start of the series in June(PTI) 'That is very wrong. Number one, the Australia-West Indies series is always called the Frank Worrell Trophy. The India-Australia Trophy is always called the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. If its name changed, Gavaskar poore India ko hila ke rakh dega (Gavaskar will shake the whole of India),' Ghavri told Vicky Lalwani on the latter's YouTube channel. Ghavri squarely held the BCCI responsible for failing to oppose it. He questioned how the board could stay silent when the Pataudi Trophy's name was removed. 'The BCCI should've put its foot down with the MCC and the ECB. Tiger's name shouldn't have been removed,' said Ghavri. Ghavri criticising Tendulkar While Sachin Tendulkar did object to the decision at first, Ghavri was unimpressed with the cricketing great for not being firm enough on his stand. 'In the same context, when it came to Sachin Tendulkar, that this trophy would be changed, and this trophy would be named after you and Anderson, Sachin should've said no. Objection is different,' said the former all-rounder, who represented India in 39 Tests. 'In the first place, you should've put your foot down and should've said 'No, I don't want to use my name because Tiger Pataudi's name is already there. He's a legend of Indian cricket. If you want to give medals, use our name. Trophy's name should remain the same'. 'First of all, this question should've never been raised. You're degrading somebody of a great stature.' The first Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy saw an excellent display of cricket from both sides, with Shubman Gill, leading in his maiden series, showcasing incredible form to smash 754 runs in five Tests, while Mohammed Siraj leading the pace attack with a series high 23 wickets in nine innings.
