Real estate players eye Edge Data centres; infra-ready Tier 2 Cities gains traction
New Delhi [India], June 1 (ANI): The emergence of edge data centres has attracted real estate players due to the need for lower latency, real-time analysis, enhanced app performance, and business agility.
By definition, Edge Data Centers are small, localised data processing facilities situated close to devices and end users. These centers help in enhancing performance and efficiency for real-time applications.
Executives of real estate firms say that emerging hubs like Faridabad among many tier 2 cities are gaining attention for their strategic connectivity and infrastructure readiness.
At the same time, Tier 2 cities with abundant and affordable land are being eyed for new developments, particularly for edge data centres where proximity to local users is critical, executives say.
"The growing investment in data centres--projected at USD 20-25 billion by 2030--is a clear sign of how digital infrastructure is becoming more central to India's growth story. This shift is gradually reshaping real estate priorities as well," Uddhav Poddar, CMD of Bhumika Group, said."Emerging hubs like Faridabad are gaining attention for their strategic connectivity and infrastructure readiness," he added.
He further elaborates that developers must now focus on "power availability, connectivity, and compliance with technical requirements that go beyond traditional commercial or industrial spaces". This means that real estate development for data centres requires a unique blend of technical expertise and strategic location planning.
According to a report by real estate and investment firm Colliers, while hyperscale data centres have dominated the narrative so far, the evolution of edge data centres is on the rise.
A hyperscale data center is a very large facility designed to handle massive amounts of data, compute, and storage needs, typically used by large internet companies and cloud service providers.
"Interestingly, the market is expanding beyond large-scale colocation facilities and hyperscalers to edge data centres driven by increasing need for lower latency, real-time analysis, enhanced app performance, and business agility," said Jatin Shah, Chief Operating Officer, Colliers India.
India's DC capacity has grown over 4X times in the last 6-7 years and stands at 1,263 MW as of April 2025 and is expected to cross 4,500 MW by 2030 with USD 20-25 billion, the Colliers report added.
On the supply front, India has witnessed 859 MW of capacity addition across the top seven primary DC markets since the beginning of 2020. In terms of geographical spread, 44 per cent of the new supply since 2020 was concentrated in Mumbai. This was followed by Chennai and Delhi NCR, which together accounted for 42 per cent of the capacity addition since 2020. (ANI)

India hosted the 4th edition of the India-Central Asia Dialogue on Friday in New Delhi, reaffirming its growing commitment to a comprehensive regional partnership across security, connectivity, economic cooperation, and people-to-people ties. The meeting, chaired by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, saw the participation of Foreign Ministers from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, and produced a detailed Joint Statement setting the tone for the next phase of India-Central Asia strategic engagement. The Ministers began by reaffirming the deep civilizational, cultural, and historical linkages between India and Central Asian countries, while underscoring their collective resolve to build a forward-looking, enduring partnership. The Dialogue was praised as a key platform for addressing common challenges, strengthening multifaceted cooperation, and harnessing untapped potential to advance shared interests, including peace, security, and sustainable growth in the region. The Joint Statement recorded satisfaction at the progress made since the first India-Central Asia Summit in January 2022, noting advances across sectors. A key area of focus was enhancing trade and investment, with Ministers acknowledging the current levels and calling for expanded efforts in high-potential areas such as pharmaceuticals, IT, agriculture, energy, textiles, and gems and jewellery. Strengthening financial connectivity through digital payment systems, interbank relations, and trade in national currencies was emphasised, with both sides expressing interest in establishing a Joint Working Group to deepen banking and financial ties. Connectivity featured prominently, with strong endorsement of the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC). India reiterated its support for the membership of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan in INSTC, and Kazakhstan was lauded for its work on developing its eastern corridor. Chabahar Port also received attention, as the Ministers welcomed continued engagement and simplification of goods transit procedures, including greater use of the TIR Carnet system. India welcomed Central Asian interest in the Shahid Beheshti Terminal at Chabahar as a key trade route to India and beyond. The Ministers welcomed the contributions of the India-Central Asia Business Council (ICABC) in fostering business linkages and investment opportunities. Acknowledging India's ITEC Programme, the Central Asian countries appreciated its role in capacity building, particularly in IT and English language training, and India agreed to broaden its scope to cover additional areas of mutual interest. Expanding technology cooperation was a major theme, with both sides agreeing to promote partnerships in science, space, innovation, and digital infrastructure. Central Asian countries noted India Stack's role in digital transformation, and India agreed to assist in developing Digital Public Infrastructure in the region. The Ministers also agreed to launch an India-Central Asia Digital Partnership Forum, with Uzbekistan offering to host the first meeting. In areas of development partnership, the Ministers stressed joint collaboration in healthcare, food and energy security, public health, and digital innovation. The sides committed to deepening cooperation in healthcare infrastructure, medical tourism, traditional medicine, and UHC models, with the possibility of creating a Joint Working Group on health, the press release stated. Mineral exploration also featured in the talks, with renewed focus on rare earth and critical minerals. Building on the first India-Central Asia Rare Earth Forum in 2024, the Ministers called for holding its second edition soon and encouraged delegation exchanges to explore new areas of cooperation. India's recent capacity building initiatives, such as training programmes on Drug Law Enforcement and Countering Terror Financing, were acknowledged as important steps. The Ministers agreed to continue these exchanges under the banner of South-South cooperation and welcomed collaboration with India's Global South Centre of Excellence 'DAKSHIN.' Cultural ties were also emphasised. Noting longstanding civilisational connections, the Ministers agreed to further strengthen cultural, educational, and humanitarian cooperation. Tajikistan offered to host the second meeting of the India-Central Asia Culture Ministers. Indian Cultural Centres were praised for enhancing cultural diplomacy and bilateral understanding. Security issues were addressed with strong emphasis on coordinated efforts to combat terrorism. The Ministers unequivocally condemned the 22 April terrorist attack in Pahalgam, reaffirming their collective stand against terrorism in all forms and calling for accountability of perpetrators, organisers, and sponsors. They stressed that cross-border terrorism, safe havens, terror financing, radical ideology, and cyber misuse must be addressed, and reiterated the urgency of adopting the UN Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism. Full implementation of UNSC resolutions, the Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy, and FATF standards was also highlighted. In this regard, regular consultations among National Security Councils were supported, with the next round to be held in Kyrgyz Republic. The Joint Statement further noted multilateral synergies. The Ministers welcomed the designation of 2025 as the 'International Year of Peace and Trust' and the upcoming International Forum of Peace and Trust in Ashgabat. They also praised the First High-Level Conference on Glaciers' Preservation held in Dushanbe. They expressed interest in advancing mountain development under the 'Five-Year Action Plan' from the 77th UN General Assembly. The MEA stated in the press release that the Second Global Mountain Summit 'Bishkek+25' in 2027 was acknowledged as an important next step. Ministers expressed strong support for the SCO's role in regional security and people-to-people engagement. They praised the Council of SCO Heads of State meetings hosted in Astana (2024) and India (2023), reaffirming Central Asia's centrality in the SCO and India's active participation. India, in turn, invited Central Asian countries to join key multilateral initiatives such as the International Solar Alliance (ISA), Global Biofuels Alliance (GBA), Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI), and the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA), as mechanisms for sustainable and inclusive growth. The Central Asian countries reaffirmed their support for India's bid for permanent membership in a reformed and expanded UN Security Council. Afghanistan was also discussed, with shared emphasis on a peaceful, terror-free, and drug-free Afghanistan and commitment to close coordination on related issues. The integration of the Termez logistics hub into the UNHCR global stockpile network and Kazakhstan's initiative to establish a UN SDG Hub in Almaty were welcomed, highlighting regional humanitarian and development efforts. Youth diplomacy was also recognised, with support for continued student exchanges and emphasis on student welfare in both regions, as per the MEA press release. Concluding the Dialogue, the Ministers agreed to deepen cooperation across all shared priorities and prepare for the second India-Central Asia Summit later in 2025. They also agreed to hold the 5th India-Central Asia Dialogue in 2026 and thanked the Indian side for its warm hospitality and productive chairmanship. (ANI)

A journey to remember and big boost to connectivity: PM Modi after inaugurating Chenab rail bridge
New Delhi [India], June 7 (ANI): After inaugurating much-awaited and world's highest railway arch bridge over the river Chenab during his day-long visit to Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that today's development works will enhance the development journey of Jammu and Kashmir. In a post on social media platform, X, PM Modi said, ' A journey to remember and a big boost to connectivity! Travelled from the Chenab Rail Bridge to Anji Bridge and thereon to Katra for the public meeting. Today's development works will enhance the development journey of Jammu and Kashmir' The architectural marvel Chenab Rail Bridge, situated 359 metres above the river, is the world's highest railway arch bridge. It is a 1,315-metre-long steel arch bridge engineered to withstand seismic and wind conditions. A key impact of the bridge will be in enhancing connectivity between Jammu and Srinagar. The Vande Bharat train moving on the bridge will take just about three hours to travel between Katra and Srinagar, reducing the existing travel time by two to three hours. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday flagged off two Vande Bharat Express trains from Katra Railway Station, directly connecting the Jammu division with marks a major milestone in Jammu and Kashmir's railway connectivity. Before flagging off the trains, Prime Minister Modi interacted with school children onboard and also spoke with railway staff members present on the train. The new Vande Bharat Express service will reduce the travel time between Katra and Srinagar from the current 6-7 hours by road to just about 3 hours. The trains aim to provide a fast, comfortable, and reliable travel option for residents, tourists, and pilgrims. The train will run through the Anji Khad Bridge, which is India's first cable-stayed railway bridge, and the Chenab Bridge, which is the highest railway bridge in the world. These trains have been specially designed to operate in the cold climatic conditions of the Kashmir Minister Modi inaugurated the world's highest railway arch bridge - 'Chenab Railway Bridge' and India's first cable-stayed 'Anji Bridge' in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw were present during the inauguration. Before the inauguration of the bridge on the Chenab, the Prime Minister inspected the railway arch bridges are part of the ambitious Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway Link (USBRL) project in Jammu and Kashmir. The iconic Chenab Railway Bridge, the world's highest railway arch bridge, is part of the Katra-to-Sangaldan stretch, connecting New Delhi directly with Kashmir via Katra. Situated in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir, the Chenab Bridge is an engineering marvel standing at a height of 359 meters above the riverbed. It will officially connect the Kashmir Valley with the rest of India via rail for the first time in history. The project faced numerous engineering and logistical challenges due to the region's difficult terrain and seismic sensitivity. Yet, after years of meticulous work, the bridge now stands as a testament to India's technological prowess and commitment to inclusive marks a transformative chapter in India's infrastructural landscape, promising greater connectivity, economic growth, and social integration in the region. The Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project is 272 km long USBRL project, constructed worth around Rs 43,780 crore, includes 36 tunnels (spanning 119 km) and 943 bridges. The project establishes all-weather, seamless rail connectivity between the Kashmir Valley and the rest of the country, aiming to transform regional mobility and drive socio-economic integration. Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel presents development projects worth over Rs 557 crore to Rajkot
Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India], June 7 (ANI): Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurated 13 development projects worth Rs 343.39 crore and laid the foundation stones for 28 new projects worth Rs 213.79 crore, bringing development initiatives worth Rs 557.18 crore to Rajkot, said an official release. Addressing the event at the Pramukh Swami Auditorium in Rajkot, the Chief Minister stated that under the Urban Development Year initiative, Rajkot city and district are witnessing significant development. He expressed confidence that the projects being inaugurated and launched today would enhance the 'Ease of Living' for the people of Rajkot. Reflecting on Rajkot's development journey over the past two decades, the Chief Minister noted that projects such as Atal Sarovar, AIIMS, an international airport, and various flyovers have transformed the city and improved the quality of urban life. The newly developed art gallery and other major development initiatives underscore the state government's commitment to urban welfare. Regarding Rajkot's future growth trajectory, the Chief Minister stated that the Government of Gujarat has planned six strategic growth hubs across the state, modelled on the successful example of Surat, with Rajkot as one of the key hubs. To support this vision, a dedicated Regional Economic Plan is being formulated. Rajkot has emerged as a prominent centre for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), along with the engineering, gold and silver, and jewellery-making sectors. CM Patel said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, efforts are underway to connect these industries to world-class markets, accelerating their global competitiveness and boosting their economic contribution. On the occasion of the 352nd coronation anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the Chief Minister recalled Shivaji's establishment of good governance centred on public welfare, security, and strategic leadership and noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has ushered in a new era of development-focused politics inspired by the spirit of 'Nagarik Devo Bhava,' ensuring that even the most marginalised citizens benefit from governance. This approach has created a successful model of citizen-centric administration over the past 11 years. Following the Prime Minister's visionary path, Rajkot is now receiving development works worth Rs 557.18 crore, including Rs 238 crore dedicated to the energy sector. The Chief Minister stated that during his tenure as Chief Minister of Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the visionary Jyotigram Yojana, which ensured a 24-hour electricity supply to every village in the state. Dedicated feeders were created for agriculture, and a balanced approach was adopted to provide sufficient power for both industry and farming. Referring to the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, the Chief Minister highlighted that, as per a recent survey, around 3.40 lakh households in Gujarat have installed solar rooftops. Of the solar energy generated, 58 per cent was used for domestic consumption while 42 per cent was sold back to the government, helping citizens to earn an income and urging more people to avail themselves of the highly beneficial scheme. The Chief Minister also noted that farmers are significantly benefiting from solar power schemes, with 98 per cent of the state's farmers now receiving electricity during the daytime. He further stated that under the visionary SAUNI Yojana, the Prime Minister ensured water supply to every village across the Saurashtra region. With reliable access to electricity, water, and excellent road connectivity, industrial and economic development in Rajkot and across Saurashtra has accelerated significantly. The Rs 112 crore road infrastructure projects announced today for the Rajkot district will further strengthen industrial growth and provide citizens with enhanced transportation facilities. The Chief Minister stated that in 2005, to make urbanisation in Gujarat well-planned and systematic, the then Chief Minister and current Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, launched the Urban Development Year--an initiative that marked a turning point in the State's urban growth journey. To commemorate the 20th anniversary of this landmark initiative, the Government of Gujarat has decided to celebrate 2025 as an Urban Development Year, to develop world-class cities. Reaffirming the government's commitment to green growth, the Chief Minister noted that maintaining clean and plastic-free cities is a shared responsibility, contributing to the vision of a 'Clean Gujarat and Green Gujarat.' On this occasion, the Chief Minister congratulated the Prime Minister and the Indian Armed Forces for the remarkable success of Operation Sindoor. Addressing the event, the Water Resources Minister Kunvarji Bavaliya said that the development initiatives launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his tenure as Chief Minister of Gujarat are now delivering substantial results under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. He stated that Gujarat is progressing through inclusive and balanced growth, with benefits reaching every section of society. The Minister further stated that the State Government has incorporated not only electricity, water, and roads into the development journey, but also arts and sports, truly fulfilling the mantra of 'Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi.' He shared that in remote areas like Jasdan, the Gujarat Government has developed a large-scale indoor-outdoor sports complex at a cost of Rs 8 crore, equipped with facilities for athletics, judo, kabaddi, kho-kho, and more. This initiative will empower players from Jasdan to excel at the national level. Promoting such a sports culture will also strengthen Gujarat's preparedness to host global sporting events like the 2030 Commonwealth Games and the 2036 Olympic Games. Highlighting the State Government's commitment to ensuring sufficient supply even in remote areas, the Minister stated that while Saurashtra was once considered a water-scarce region, the SAUNI Yojana has transformed the scenario by channelling River Narmada's resources to villages, securing water availability for citizens even during summers. To further enhance water security in Rajkot, the newly inaugurated Moviya, Machhu-1, and Padadhari projects will provide 100 litres per person per day to lakhs of residents across Gondal, Rajkot, Padadhari, Kotda Sangani, and Lodhika regions. On this occasion, Mayor Nayna Pedhadiya expressed her gratitude to the Chief Minister for dedicating development projects worth over Rs 1,623 crore to the Rajkot district within just six months. She also outlined various development initiatives and highlighted pioneering efforts in environmental conservation, such as bore well recharge, subsidies for electric bikes, and solid waste management. Rajkot District Collector Prabhav Joshi delivered the welcome address and outlined the program's structure. He stated that good governance and public welfare remain central to the Gujarat Government's administrative framework. Under the leadership of the Chief Minister, citizens of Rajkot district and the municipal area have been gifted 41 development projects across various government departments, valued at approximately Rs 525 crore. Referring to the inauguration of a new Taluka-level Sports Complex in Jasdan, the Collector highlighted the State Government's commitment to promoting sports through the establishment of this state-of-the-art facility. Built by the district administration on seven acres of land at a cost of Rs 8.40 crore, the complex aims to strengthen the region's sports infrastructure. He further noted that the Chief Minister inaugurated 13 development works worth Rs 343.39 crore and laid the foundation stones for 27 projects valued at Rs 181.67 crore. On this occasion, the CM handed over a reimbursement subsidy letter worth Rs 75 lakh to the Rajkot Engineering Association. Beneficiaries also received property cards issued under the SVAMITVA Yojana. Additionally, as part of the Nirmal Gujarat 2.0 campaign, incentive cheques worth Rs 10,000 were distributed to the sanitation workers. (ANI)
