Closed strongly under a hold when third in his May 5 Randwick trial. COSMONAUT (1) raced keenly on debut in the Inglis Challenge at Scone when third to Cashbrook and Gilette. IN LIMBO (7) came from well back when third to Amosu in the MM The Debut at the Gold Coast before a fourth to The Playwright in the Widden Stakes.
Bet: Racing Force to win
RACE 2: OZTECH SECURITY CG&E MAIDEN PLATE 1300m
VETWELVE (7) worked forward to race outside the leader before heading towards the outside fence in the straight when third to Kundabung in a Super Maiden on the Kensington first-up. Was handy in his first campaign including a second at Canterbury. RIGHTEOUS LEGEND (4) was three-wide from about the 900m and boxed on well when second to Mignonette at Newcastle first-up. Raced outside the leader and was green in the straight when second to Carnegie Hill at Hawkesbury last start. HOMERIC (1) will be better for his first-up third here.
Bet: Vetwelve to win
RACE 3: PAUL BRIDGE MEMORIAL F&M MAIDEN PLATE 1300m
MAID OF MOOLAH (8) worked home well for a neck second to Nymphadora at Hawkesbury on debut and followed with a fourth to Silver Wedding at Canterbury after being carried wider near the 200m. Battled away for second to Mother Goose here last start. Gets her chance to break through. CHEEKY DANCER (1) was okay when third to Pelosa at Hawkesbury then just nosed but at Tamworth. Bet: Charleroi to win
RACE 5: GO HIRE SITE RENTALS BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP 1000m
ARE EE QUE (5) has won three races with all coming on heavy ground. Won her maiden by four lengths at Goulburn last July, won again there in February and returned from a spell with an all-the-way win at Wyong on May 1. Gets in well with the 3kg claim. INOUE (1) resumed with a tough win from Poiema at Gosford and followed up with a nose win from King's Secret over this track and distance on May 10. THE GREY (3) resumes here. Bet: November Air each-way
RACE 7: TLE ELECTRICAL WOLLONGONG PROVINCIAL BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP 1200m

Is a winner on the heavy. VEGAS DREAM (5) has won three races, all on the heavy, with the latest at the Sapphire Coast on Apr 4. Was then beaten a nose on a Soft 7 at the same track by Capital Heart. Bet: Presides to win
RACE 8: JJJ RACING MIDWAY BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP 1600m
CITY LIMITS (5) had trouble finding clear running until the 100m when fourth to Format here on Mar 14. Returned from a let-up with strong closing run to reel in Tip Top Timing here on May 17. HOOLIGAN TOMMY (2) has been good this campaign with a win and two placings from four starts. Only blip was in a Randwick Midway two starts back. NSW cop another unwanted injury headache ahead of State of Origin II as Reece Robson under a cloud
NSW have been given an unwanted headache before State of Origin II, with hooker Reece Robson in doubt to play for North Queensland again before selection. Robson backed up from the Blues' series-opening win to run out for the Cowboys last week against Wests Tigers, but left the field early with hamstring tightness. The dummy-half has been named to face Melbourne on Friday night, but coach Todd Payten said Robson was far from certain to play. 'He's in some doubt. He's got to get the body moving,' Payten said. 'We'll just be guided by the medical team and make a call come captain's run. But he's got a couple of boxes to tick.' Blues officials will name their squad for Origin II after this weekend, with the final game on the public holiday Monday between Canterbury and Parramatta. Robson would be expected to be named in the NSW squad regardless of whether he plays this weekend, but it would leave his fitness clouded for Origin II in Perth. Apisai Koroisau would remain the most likely back-up option for the Blues, after losing his spot to Robson in the 2023 series. Cronulla hooker Blayke Brailey would be another option, while NSW already have Sydney Roosters No.9 Connor Watson in their side as a bench utility. NSW selectors already have one decision to make ahead of game two, with prop Mitchell Barnett ruled out for the season with an ACL rupture. Melbourne's Stefano Utoikamanu is favoured to replace him, while South Sydney workhorse Keaon Koloamatangi is making a strong case. The Cowboys have also ruled Murray Taulagi out of Friday's clash because of the calf injury that cost him a spot in the Maroons side for Origin I. It means the six-time Maroons winger will not play again before teams are selected for Origin II, in a major hit to his selection chances. Fellow Cowboys star Jason Taumalolo is also out of the Storm clash, after failing to recover in time from a calf injury. He and Taulagi are expected to be fit to face the Dolphins next week. 'They just didn't come up to the mark. We need them to get a full week of training under their belt to play at NRL level,' Payten said. 'They both weren't there this week given it was a six-day turn off the back of last week's game. 'Next week is a longer turn-around and we expect them on the pitch on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and be right to play against the Dolphins.'

Locked up in China part one — Cheng Lei on state paranoia and staying sane in isolation
When journalist Cheng Lei moved back to the country of her birth after the dramatic opening up of China to the world, she was a part of something exciting and historic. That all changed after Xi Jinping came to power, and Australia's relations with China deteriorated. In this first episode of a two-part series, Lei explains how eventually, she found herself detained on bogus espionage charges, and held for more than three years in a Chinese detention centre. For the first six months of her detention, Lei was isolated and alone except for the rotating female guards who stood over her 24 hours a day. Lei was not allowed to speak to these guards, she was forced to sit on the edge of her bed for 14 hours a day, she had to ask permission to do anything, she was not allowed to close her eyes and intermittently she was taken to a room, tied down in a chair and interrogated about allegedly sharing state secrets with foreigners. Lei learned how to ration books, she practised German vocabulary, wrote scripts in her head and thought of her two children to stay sane under torturous conditions. Further information Cheng Lei: A Memoir of Freedom is published by HarperCollins. Cheng Lei: My Story is a documentary made by Sky News Australia. It is available to stream at
