Local Dates Fest kicks off at Souq Waqif

The 10th edition of the Local Dates Festival kicked off at Souq Waqif East Square on Thursday, with the participation of more than 100 local farms.
Held under the auspices of the Ministry of Municipality and Souq Waqif Management, the festival will continue until August 7, welcoming visitors daily from 4 pm to 9 pm, and from 4 pm to 10 pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
The opening ceremony was attended by Eng. Fahad Mohammed Al-Qahtani, Assistant Undersecretary for Agriculture and Food Security Affairs at the Ministry of Municipality, and Abdulrahman Mohammed Al Numa, representative of the Private Engineering Office, along with a number of ministry and market management officials.
Director of the Agricultural Affairs Department at the Ministry of MunicipalityYousef Khaled Al Khulaifi said the festival has witnessed significant development since its first launch in 2016, in which only 19 farms participated, bringing the number of participants in its current edition to 116 farms, reflecting the growing interest in local crops. He noted the increasing turnout of visitors and the fruitful cooperation with the Souq Waqif management, which has contributed to the success of this event over the past years. page 2

Second QLC Young Leaders Summer Camp 2025 concludes
QNA Doha The Qatar Leadership Centre (QLC) has concluded the second edition of its 'Young Leaders – Summer Camp 2025' programme, held in collaboration with the American University of Beirut (AUB). This initiative forms part of the Centre's broader efforts to empower high school students in Qatar by equipping them with leadership skills and knowledge to support their future ambitions. The 15-day programme brought together 60 male and female students from various public and private schools across the country. The programme concluded with a final presentation of student-led projects to a panel of experts. In this direction, the State of Qatar has pursued an ambitious strategy in the path toward new and renewable energies, mostly solar energy as an easy-to-access natural source. The nation has embarked on carrying out behemoth projects, thereby reflecting its national orientation toward a green economy to reduce reliance on biofuel, an approach that reflects concrete steps toward achieving the environmental and energy objectives of the Qatar National Vision 2030. Qatar had set targets under the Second National Development Strategy (2018-2022) and the National Environment and Climate Change Strategy (2021-2030), including producing 20 percent of electricity from renewable sources by 2030, slashing greenhouse gas emissions by 25 percent, and investing in solar energy storage research and grid integration projects. One of Qatar's flagship renewable energy projects is the Al Kharsaah solar power plant west of Doha. QT launches ‘Purple Saturday' initiative
QNA Doha In collaboration with the Ministry of Social Development and Family and Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Qatar Tourism (QT), through its promotional arm Visit Qatar, is partnering with its stakeholders to launch the nation's first-ever Purple Saturday initiative in the State of Qatar. This high-impact initiative is dedicated to empowering people with special needs in society and will be held annually on the last Saturday of July, QT said in a statement on Sunday. The initiative, launched by the Authority of People with Disabilities (APD) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 2021, is celebrated on the last Saturday of July every year. It has now been extended to cover the entire GCC region as a show of solidarity and unity. Purple Saturday in Qatar unites stakeholders from both the public and private sectors to champion accessibility, raise awareness, and foster greater community participation, the statement said. page 3
