Vivek Agnihotri reacts to Anurag Kashyap's liar remark: 2-3 people live inside him

India Today2 days ago
Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri has addressed Anurag Kashyap's recent allegation of calling him a 'liar,' reigniting a long-standing professional discord dating back to their collaboration on the 2007 film 'Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal'. Speaking in an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Agnihotri stood by his earlier remarks about Kashyap's drinking habits, while also acknowledging his contributions to Indian cinema.'Usko chhodo. Woh raat mein kya bolta hai, subah kya bolta hai, dono mein farak hai. Jiske andar 2-3 aadmi rehte hain, uski baat ko main kya kahun (Forget him. What he says at night and what he says in the morning are completely different. When someone has two or three people living inside him, what can I even say about what he says)?' Agnihotri said.advertisementHe continued, 'Yes, I had talked about his drinking habits, and that's the truth. But I never said Anurag is a bad guy - he is a wonderful guy. His contribution to Indian cinema is unprecedented. There can be only one Anurag Kashyap. When Indian cinema's history is written, people will remember him.'
The rift between the two directors reportedly began when Agnihotri claimed Kashyap's alleged alcoholism had affected their work. Defending his stance, he added, 'My film suffered because of his alcoholism. What's wrong with that? I used to drink a lot at one point in my life, and I suffered at work because of it. It happens.' Agnihotri also maintained that Kashyap had handed over his responsibilities on the project to filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane. While their professional paths have diverged, both filmmakers continue to work actively in the industry.Agnihotri is currently gearing up for 'The Bengal Files', a politically charged drama centred on political violence in West Bengal, featuring Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Pallavi Joshi, and Darshan Kumar. The project follows the thematic vein of his controversial yet commercially successful 'The Kashmir Files'.Kashyap, meanwhile, is working on 'Nishaanchi', starring Balasaheb Thackeray's grandson Aaishvary Thackeray, whose teaser was recently unveiled.- EndsMust Watch

Coolie first day advance booking: Rajinikanth's film crosses Rs 20 cr in India four days before release, Rs 50 cr worldwide as it aims for Rs 100 cr opening

Coolie first day advance booking: This week, as Rajinikanth completes 50 years in the film industry, his fans are in for a celebration. The Tamil superstar's new film, Lokesh Kanagaraj's crime thriller Coolie, is all set to release in cinemas this Thursday on August 14. Going by the advance booking figures four days before the film hits theatres, it looks like it'll be one of the biggest openings for an Indian film worldwide. By Monday morning, Coolie has already earned Rs 14 crore in advance sales in India. Majority of this figure belongs to the native Tamil version at Rs 13.7 crore, followed by the dubbed Hindi, Telugu, and Kannada versions at Rs 22 lakh, Rs 7 lakh, and Rs 85,000 respectively. Combined with the block booking, the current advance booking of the film in India stands at Rs 20.26 crore. As of August 10, the film has managed ticket ore0sales of 706K on ticketing platform BookMyShow, as per Koimoi. With this, it has surpassed Rajinikanth's last release Vettaiyan. Coincidentally, Rajinikanth holds 3 of the five spots on ticket pre-sales for Tamil films (Leo with 2.28 million, Jailer with 1.19 million, The Greatest Of All Time with 1.19 million, Coolie and Vettaiyan with 706K each.) This development comes just a day and a half after the advance booking of Coolie was declared open in India. The tickets of the film have been available in international markets for a couple of weeks now. As per Sacnilk, the Rajinikanth-starrer has already crossed the Rs 50 crore mark internationally in terms of advance sales. As the release date draws closer, this figure is only expected to rise even at a higher rate. Given that the film will enjoy an extended Independence Day weekend run, many more tickets are expected to be sold within the next three days. The movie may earn as much as more than even Rs 100 crore globally on its opening day, given its current trajectory. That would ensure not only Tamil cinema's biggest worldwide opening till date, but also one of the biggest for Indian cinema. Lokesh Kanagaraj, known for Kaithi (2019), Master (2021), and Vikram (2022), has directed the film. It is backed by production house Sun Pictures. Coolie marks the next instalment in the Lokesh Cinematic Universe or the Lokiverse. Bollywood actor Aamir Khan will make a cameo in the film, which will possibly hint at a later standalone spin-off he'd do with Kanagaraj, that will go on floors by the end of next year. Aamir and Rajinikanth last worked together in the 1995 film Aatank Hi Aatank. In Coolie, Aamir Khan will be seen as Dahaa. A poster showing Aamir's rugged new look was recently shared by the makers. Rajinikanth's 171st film also stars Nagarjuna, Sathyaraj, Upendra, Shruti Haasan, and Soubin Shahir. Anirudh Ravichander has composed the music for the film. This marks the superstar's first A-rated film in many years, hinting that the film will be packed with intense and unfiltered action. The film revolves around Rajinikanth's character Deva, 'a mysterious man who takes a stand against a corrupt syndicate exploiting and abusing the workers of a port town.'

After Diljit Dosanjh's Sardaarji 3, Fawad Khan-Vaani Kapoor's Abir Gulaal to release worldwide, likely to skip India: Report

After months of delay, Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor's film Abir Gulaal is set for a worldwide release but will likely skip India. According to Biz Asia, the film — now officially titled Aabir Gulaal — will have its world premiere on August 29. The report does not mention any details about its India release, making it likely that the film will bypass Indian cinemas. The decision to skip Abir Gulaal's India release comes soon after Diljit Dosanjh's Sardaar Ji 3 also bypassed Indian cinemas. That film starred Pakistani actor Hania Aamir alongside Diljit and faced backlash in India. The makers opted for a worldwide release, skipping India, and the film went on to become a box office hit overseas, emerging as the highest-grossing Punjabi film worldwide, eclipsing Jatt and Juliet 3. It also broke box office records for opening day and weekend collections for an Indian film. It appears the makers of Vaani and Fawad's film are hoping to replicate Sardaar Ji 3's success. Earlier, Vaani Kapoor had defended the overseas release of Sardaar Ji 3. She said, 'I am assuming his film was shot before the atrocious attack, and I am assuming, as a producer, his money must have been stuck. I guess some 100 technicians were involved in making the film. The situation was different when the film was shot. I don't think he was meaning to disrespect the nation. He is a global star… He is looked up to globally. He has taken measures as per whatever he thought was suitable to him. But I don't think any laws have been broken, right?' Despite ongoing speculation, the makers of Abir Gulaal have yet to give a final confirmation on the film's release plans.
