'Welcome to India': Redditor's post on Gurgaon vs Toronto real estate prices starts a 'NRIs or blackmoney' debate
A Reddit post comparing real estate prices in Gurgaon and Toronto has gone viral, stirring a debate on income disparity and property affordability.
Posted by Mohit Yadavv, the viral post highlighted the shocking contrast: a 3 BHK in Gurgaon costs around ₹2.95 crore, while a similar property in Toronto is priced at ₹4.4 crore. Yet, India's per capita income is just $3,000 compared to Canada's $54,000 — an 18x difference. In contrast, real estate prices differ by only 1.5x.
'Those buying in Gurgaon either have one in Toronto too, or they're simply stretching themselves without reason,' one Redditor remarked.

Another comment pointed fingers elsewhere: 'It's not just NRIs distorting the market. They're too few to create this kind of disparity. It's the black money in the system inflating these prices.'
However, one person said the comparison is wrong. "Scarborough is not Toronto, it's part of GTA(Greater Toronto Area) and is historically a crime ridden bad neighbourhood. Actual Condo prices in actual Toronto suburbs or downtown would be upwards of 1 million easy. Go towards Mississauga and Brampton and you will find the same," he pointed out.

Another said, "Canada population is 40 million and india population 1.45 billion see the population difference. GDP is divided by population. Many indian go to Canada for studies."

Residential prices along the Dwarka Expressway more than doubled in five years — from ₹5,360 per sq. ft in 2019 to ₹11,000 in 2025 — due to improved connectivity with Delhi and key Gurgaon locations like Golf Course Road and Old Gurgaon.
Sohna Road, another hotspot in southern Gurgaon, recorded average prices of around ₹6,000 per sq. ft in 2024. The area is emerging as a go-to destination for affordable housing seekers, the report noted.

Get the Best Fixed Deposit Interest Rates: Tips and Tricks
Fixed deposits (FDs) have remained one of the most trusted investment tools for Indian savers across generations. Known for their simplicity, safety, and guaranteed returns, FDs offer peace of mind to investors looking for capital protection and predictable income. But not all fixed deposits offer the same returns. If you're planning to invest, knowing how to get the best FD interest rates can significantly boost your savings over time. In this guide, we'll walk you through practical tips and strategies to maximise returns—and introduce you to Bajaj Finance Fixed Deposits, which offer up to 6.95% p.a. for non-senior citizens and up to 7.30% p.a. for senior citizens. A fixed deposit is a financial instrument where you invest a lump sum for a fixed tenure at a pre-agreed interest rate. The bank or financial institution pays you interest either periodically or at maturity. With low risk and stable returns, fixed deposits are ideal for conservative investors and those saving for short- to medium-term goals. Several factors influence the rate of interest you receive on your FD: Bajaj Finance offers some of the most attractive FD rates in India—up to 7.30% p.a. for senior citizens. Open a Bajaj Finance FD and enjoy assured growth on your savings. Do not settle for the first FD offer you come across. Compare rates across: Longer-tenure FDs usually offer better rates. If you won't need the money soon, lock in for a few years to maximise returns. Bajaj Finance FDs are available for tenures between 12 and 60 months, with flexible payout options. Cumulative FDs let your interest earn interest. Ideal if you don't need periodic payouts. Instead of putting all your savings in one FD, divide them across multiple FDs with different maturities. If you're 60+, take advantage of higher interest rates specially designed for retirees. Online booking can unlock additional interest or special offers. Bajaj Finance makes it easy to: Book Your Bajaj Finance FD Online for attractive rates and a hassle-free experience. If interest rates are rising, lock in higher rates with longer a falling cycle, go for short-term FDs and wait to reinvest later. Keep an eye on RBI updates and financial news. Some institutions offer better rates on renewals. Avoid lapses and earn uninterrupted interest by enabling auto-renewal. Always review the prevailing rate before renewing. While maximising returns, don't ignore these important considerations: With smart planning and a few strategic choices, you can make your fixed deposit work harder for you. Compare rates, pick the right tenure, consider laddering, and book online for extra benefits. Get insured, avoid layovers, keep buffer, urge travel agents
Air travel faces significant disruptions due to the Israel-Iran conflict, leading to flight cancellations and rerouting. The recent Boeing Dreamliner crash has heightened safety concerns, prompting airlines and travel agencies to prioritize stringent safety measures and certifications. Air travel, especially to Europe and the US, is currently fraught with uncertainty, as the Israel-Iran conflict has pushed several airlines to cancel or reschedule flights on a large scale. On the other hand, the fatal Boeing Dreamliner crash in Ahmedabad on June 12 has become a major source of anxiety, especially for Indian flyers. Even airlines are taking extra precautions, resulting in two Dreamliners – a British Airways London-Chennai flight (June 15), and an Air India Hong Kong-New Delhi flight (June 16) – returning to base soon after take-off following technical snags. Here's what travel agencies told about the current scenario. People are ready to pay extra to ensure a safe flight. Our clients are not only asking about safety certifications, but also about pilot training undertaken by airlines – Komal Yadavv, manager at a travel agency 'Compliance to safety certifications is non-negotiable' In light of the June 12 Air India flight 171 crash and other recent incidents, travel agencies are keeping a strict watch on airlines' operational safety standards. 'We only partner with airlines that share safety performance matrix,' says Kavya Dutta, director & owner, Barganzaa Travel Company, adding, 'Trusted agents will only work with airlines that hold IOSA* certification. For international carriers, it is necessary to prioritise EASA** compliance. ' 'Travel insurance a must' Check flight status before leaving for airport Maintain contact with your agent, especially for cancellations and emergencies Make sure you have a travel insurance that covers you not just for accidents but also delays and disruptions – Zakauddin of Holiday Hub 'Keep extra time in hand for layovers and diversions' According to travel operators, given the closure of Iran, Iraq and Jordan airspaces, flyers to Europe or the US need to keep extra time in hand. 'We are asking flyers to keep at least 48 hours in hand when taking long-haul flights,' says Saif Bakhtiyar, a Delhi based travel curator. To this Komal Yadavv, manager at added, 'The longer routes require extra fuel, which is impacting fares, and also having a cascading effect on the time taken to travel. ' Cancellations hit conflict zones Iraq, Iran, Jordan and Syria closed their airspace following the airstrikes Flydubai flights to Iraq, Iran, Israel and Syria are suspended till June 30 Emirates has suspended flights to Jordan and Lebanon till June 22 and Iran till June 30 Almost all major airlines have suspended their flights to Tel Aviv Europe-bound flights from India and Southeast Asia are taking longer routes via Central Asia or Egypt and the Mediterranean. These flights are facing average delays of 45 to 90 minutes US-bound flights are being rerouted via Saudi Arabia, Egypt, or northern Africa, to avoid risk zones. This has led to flight delays ranging from 90 minutes to 3 hours Our suggestion to flyers with compulsions and to tourists is to book flights only with major airlines and keep the trips short. Avoid multiple layovers, and when possible, book non-stop flights – Anil Punjabi, National Committee member, Travel Agents Federation of India Most European destinations and flights from North America to India are affected. This is peak travel time & last-minute cancellations aren't feasible. We're getting lot of queries about flight disruptions & longer flying hours – Akash Rastogi, Gurgaon-based travel agent We're in constant touch with my sister, who is touring east Europe.
