Teen charged with attempted murder for mistakenly shooting female pal in chaos outside Stonewall during Pride

New York Post2 days ago
The teen gunman accused of inadvertently shooting his female pal in the head after she shot an innocent bystander near the Stonewall Inn during Pride fest has been charged with attempted murder.
The 17-year-old suspect was busted around 4 p.m. Monday and also faces charges of felony assault and criminal possession of a weapon in connection to the June 29 violence on Sheridan Square – just around the corner from the LGBTQ+ landmark in Manhattan's Greenwich Village, police said.
The mayhem erupted around 10:15 p.m. when a 16-year-old girl who was hanging out with pals opened fire at a male target standing with another group, cops said.
4 The shooting occurred around the corner from Manhattan's historic gay landmark Stonewall Inn.

It's not clear why she fired at the guy, but she missed — and one of the slugs ended up traveling about 100 feet, striking a 17-year-old girl – 'a total innocent bystander' — who was visiting from New Jersey and was with a friend at the time, according to NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny.
The 16-year-old female shooter's armed 17-year-old pal then got involved – wildly opening fire a second time at the group that included the guy his lady friend was aiming at, cops said.
He mistakenly hit his 16-year-female friend, the first shooter, striking her in the head and gravely wounding her, Kenny said.

The girl was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where she was listed in critical condition, authorities said.
Her own weapon was recovered on the ground right next to her, cops said.
Meanwhile, the young innocent bystander was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
The innocent victim's mom, Star Lopez, 46, told The Post in the aftermath that it had been an emotionally exhausting ordeal but that she was glad her daughter is alive.
4 The bystander was visiting from New Jersey and enjoying Pride festivities with a friend, cops said.

'I prefer this to organizing a wake and picking out caskets,' she said.
The 17-year-old gunman's arraignment was pending Tuesday.

ICE agents nab ‘depraved criminal' off NYC streets

NEW YORK (PIX11) — United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested a man in New York City on Wednesday who they claim is a criminal illegal alien from Honduras. The man, whom the Department of Homeland Security has identified as Jorge Alberto Mejia Herrera, allegedly had been previously convicted for sex acts on a child, officials say. More Local News Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin sent the following statement to PIX11 News: 'On July 22, ICE arrested Jorge Alberto Mejia Herrera, a criminal illegal alien from Honduras. This depraved criminal illegal alien, was previously convicted in New York for forcible sexual conduct and two or more sexual acts on a child. On May 10, the NYPD released Herrera under the city's disastrous sanctuary policies. Thanks to our brave ICE law enforcement, this sicko is off the streets and will remain in ICE custody pending removal proceedings. Secretary Noem is calling on every politician at every level of government to abandon these reckless, lawless policies and stop playing Russian roulette with American lives. DHS will continue to flood the zone in sanctuary cities and remove these criminals one by one.' Submit tips to police by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), visiting downloading the NYPD Crime Stoppers mobile app, or texting 274637 (CRIMES) then entering TIP577. Insane sanctuary laws make NYC unsafe — but ICE is up for the fight

Border Czar Tom Homan threw down a welcome warning to illegal-immigrant thugs — and a lifeline to beleaguered New Yorkers: ICE is coming, and it's going to 'flood the zone.' That's good news: New York City's crazy 'sanctuary' laws let illegal immigrant criminals hide in plain sight. 'Sanctuary cities are now our priority,' Homan announced, after an off-duty border cop was almost killed by two suspected illegal-immigrant criminals. 'Sanctuary cities are unsafe cities.' Advertisement Indeed, lefty activists who fight ICE agents and back local sanctuary laws share much of the blame for the violence their darling migrants commit. In fact, it's precisely those laws that force to Homan to send more agents than he otherwise would. That's because the laws ban ICE from prisons and jails, where illegal immigrants can be handed over to ICE, forcing agents to pursue them on the streets. Advertisement That's a lot more dangerous — and requires more agents to find and haul them in safely. 'If we can't arrest a bad guy in the safety and security of a jail,' notes Homan, 'we'll arrest them in the community.' The irony's unmistakable: 'Sanctuary cities get exactly what they don't want — more agents in their community,' he says. ICE used to have an office on Rikers, and when a dangerous illegal migrant came through the jail system, ICE would ask the NYPD or Corrections to detain him for deportation. Advertisement That ended over a decade ago: ICE was booted off Rikers by lefty loons in the City Council and then-Mayor Bill de Blasio. Per Homeland Security, Team Trump sent 6,000 ICE detainers to NYC — and the city ignored nearly all of them. Advertisement If the City Council wants to limit ICE's presence in New York, it should let the NYPD and Corrections communicate directly with ICE and the agency's officers return Rikers. But don't hold your breath waiting for that.

N.Y.C. Uncle Faces Assault Charge After Allegedly Throwing 1-Year-Old Niece Down Trash Chute

A New York City man was arrested after police say he threw his 1-year-old niece down a garbage chute, PEOPLE has learned.A spokesperson with the New York City Police Department confirmed with PEOPLE that Aaron Henderson, 39, has been charged with three counts of assault, two counts of unlawful imprisonment, and one count of endangering the welfare of a child. The NYPD spokesperson said officers responded to an apartment building at 195 Steuben St in the Park Hill neighborhood of Staten Island shortly after receiving a 911 call around 3 p.m. on Monday, July 21. 'Upon arrival, officers were informed that a 39-year-old male placed a 1-year-old female inside of a garbage chute,' the NYPD spokesperson said. The infant suffered a "minor abrasion to the torso" and was taken to Staten Island University North Campus hospital in stable condition. The New York Daily News reported that Henderson has autism, and that the girl's parents rushed downstairs to help rescue their child after realizing what had happened. WABC reported that the baby girl fell down the chute from the third floor of the apartment building, landing on the first floor. The outlet reported that police described Henderson, the girl's uncle, as 'emotionally disturbed' at the time of his arrest. Neighbors appeared stunned by the news, according to the outlet. 'I've been here for over 20 years, it's saddening,' neighbor Milton Franklin told WABC from his apartment door, explaining that he had seen the girl's mother go in the ambulance with her infant daughter, who was crying. 'I'm hurt,' Franklin added. 'I'm just going to pray that God wraps his arms around this family and that they get through the situation.' Read the original article on People
