FORMER European champions Hamburg could be offered a brand new stadium as part of Germany's Olympic bid.

Hamburg residents previously rejected the opportunity to become the select city for
the games
at the ballot box in 2015.
But now they could be persuaded by the promise of a new stadium, which would become home to Hamburg after the Games.
The new $1billion arena could boast a capacity between 60,000 to 70,000.
And it will be built even if Germany's bid to host the
summer
Olympics fails, according to Germany Interior Senator Andy Grote.

Hamburg mayor Peter Tschentscher has backed the project and handed over the necessary bid documents to the DOSB - Germany's Olympic body.
He said: "The bids of previous decades consisted of a city being rebuilt to accommodate the Olympic Games. And we reversed this principle."
The city shouldn't adapt to the Games, "but rather we adapt the Olympic concept to our city," he added.
The new stadium would be built right
next
to Hamburg's iconic Volksparkstadion, which has been their home since 1953.

World Boxing say they were 'not correct' to have named Imane Khelif in sex-test statement
WORLD BOXING ON Wednesday apologised to the Algerian federation saying it had been incorrect to name boxer Imane Khelif in a statement announcing mandatory gender testing to determine the eligibility of male and female athletes wanting to take part in its competitions. The breakaway international federation — of which Ireland's governing body is a member — said it was introducing the policy after the furore surrounding boxers including women's welterweight gold medallist Khelif at last year's Paris Olympics. World Boxing will organise the boxing competition at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics after being granted provisional recognition by the International Olympic Committee. World Boxing said it had informed the Algerian Boxing Federation Khelif would have to undergo the test if she wanted to compete at the Eindhoven Box Cup in the Netherlands on 5-10 June. But the federation rowed back on having named Khelif in their statement. 'The president of World Boxing does not think it was correct to have a named a specific athlete in a statement issued last Friday,' the body said. World Boxing, it continued, 'has written personally to the president of the Algerian Boxing Federation to offer a formal and sincere apology which acknowledges that greater effort should have been made to avoid linking the policy to any individual'. The PCR test is a laboratory technique used to detect specific genetic material, in this case the SRY gene, that reveals the presence of the Y chromosome, which is an indicator of biological sex. The test can be conducted by a nasal or mouth swab, or by taking a sample of saliva or blood. National federations will be responsible for testing and will be required to confirm the sex of their athletes when entering them into World Boxing competitions by producing certification of their chromosomal sex, as determined by a PCR test. Khelif's success at the Paris Olympics, along with that of Taiwan's Lin Yu-ting, sparked a raging gender eligibility debate, with high-profile figures such as US President Donald Trump and Elon Musk weighing in. Khelif and Lin were disqualified from the International Boxing Association's 2023 world championships after the organisation, the long-standing governing body of amateur boxing, said they had failed gender eligibility tests. The IOC has severed links with the IBA over financial, governance and ethical concerns. The IBA is led by the Kremlin-linked Russian Umar Kremlev. I was obviously upset, but it was something that had to be done. 'People ask 'should I have signed for Barcelona?'. Don't get me wrong, the weather would have been nicer, but I've got no regrets. "I had a lot of injuries and there's things like that that I could have done better to have a better career. Brandy launched Skouted when his career came to an end, an app that helps unattached players find new clubs and clubs find the best new talent. The app, which allows young players to upload clips of themselves playing for top clubs to browse through, has already helped in excess of 300 youngsters earn trials. Had Brandy not embarked on his journey through the leagues, then he may never have started the app. Advertisement He explained: "When I was in my late 20s I had been battling with so many injuries and I started to think about my future. "I didn't really want to be a coach or a manager. That's when I started to put Skouted in place. 'I've always had an entrepreneurial mindset and I think what really triggered it was that when I was at Man Utd, I was pretty fortunate to be there as long as I was. "I was fortunate to get a contract every year from the age of eight until I was 22. Advertisement 'I had friends that might not have been good enough to make it at Man Utd, but they might have been able to go and play at a lesser club. "But when they got released their parents or their guardians didn't have the connections to pick up the phone to someone in the Championship or League One and ask for a trial. 'That's when I thought to myself, 'I need to create something that's going to bridge that gap between players and clubs'. "Something where football clubs can find these players and players have got a platform to present themselves in front of these football clubs.'
