Morecambe appoint first Sikh manager in British professional football

Ashvir Singh Johal has become the first Sikh to take charge of a professional British football club and the youngest manager in the top five tiers of the English pyramid after being appointed Morecambe manager.
The 30-year-old, who has never previously managed a senior side, succeeds Derek Adams, who was sacked by Morecambe's new owners Panjab Warriors on Monday.
Singh Johal previously worked under former Arsenal and Manchester City defender Kolo Toure during the Ivorian's two-month spell in charge of Wigan Athletic, then in the Championship, from November 2022 before assisting former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas at Italian club Como.

Earlier this summer, Singh Johal also became one of the youngest coaches in the history of the English game to complete his UEFA Pro Licence qualification.
His appointment follows Morecambe's takeover by the Panjab Warriors consortium on Sunday, ending a long period of uncertainty for the National League club, who were relegated from the English Football League last season.

Before joining Wigan in 2022, Singh Johal spent 10 years in various roles with Leicester City's academy, working with every elite age group to Under-18 level.
Work permit issues cut short his time under Fabregas in Italy and he has most recently worked as head coach of Notts County's B team.
He has described former Leicester head coach Brendan Rogers as a 'role model' and said he is 'especially grateful' to Toure and Fabregas for the opportunities at first-team level.
Singh Johal is a product of hometown club GNG Leicester, who are linked to one of the city's, and the United Kingdom's, most renowned Sikh temples, Guru Nanak Gurdwara.
Speaking to Sky Sports in 2022, Singh Johal said: 'I'm a Sikh, so my principles, the way I live my life, I follow a certain set of principles from the Sikh religion and that will not change whether I'm in football or not.
'Whether I'm in training sessions [or] in the dugout on a matchday, that's who I am, that's how I am and I think if that visibility provides inspiration to somebody watching then that can only be a positive thing.'
Morecambe finished bottom of League Two, the fourth tier of English football, in 2024-25, bringing an end to their 18-year stay in the Football League (EFL) — which covers the second to fourth tier of the nation's football pyramid.
Morecambe's suspension from the fifth-tier National League was lifted following this week's takeover and the club has said their transfer embargo will also end immediately 'once all outstanding football-related debt are paid'.
They are currently scheduled to play Altrincham on Saturday in what would be Singh Johal's first came in charge and Morecambe's first competitive match since being relegated from League Two in May.

Atalanta Beat Milan and Napoli for Lecce Forward

Atalanta have won the race for Nenad Krstovic, who had been linked to several sides, including Milan and Napoli, throughout the summer. La Dea will shell out €25M plus 10 percent of a future sale, Sky reports. Lecce will record another giant 'plusvalenza' considering they had spent just €3.9M to acquire him from Dunajska Streda. He recorded 20 goals and 7 assists in 75 matches with them. The Giallorossi have lined up Nikola Stulic from Charleroi as a replacement, Tele Rama reports. Atalanta landed Krstovic after multiple attempts for Fulham's Rodrigo Muniz, but their €40M+ offer was insufficient, and pursuing Jean-Philippe Mateta, who's very expensive as well, Alfredo Pedullà informs. The Nerazzurri can count on the return of Gianluca Scamacca but needed another striker following Mateo Retegui's departure. The Montenegrin international was considered a fallback option for Milan and Napoli. The two sides are dueling for Rasmus Hojlund. The Rossoneri are in the lead and are ready to tweak their proposal, offering a loan with an obligation to buy for a total of €40M, to finally convince the Dane, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs. Conversely, the Azzurri have probed Genk's Tolu Arokodare, who's worth around €20/25M. He has scored 27 times and provided 10 assists in 68 Jupiler Pro League games. Our Take on Krstovic Joining Atalanta, Milan, and Napoli The two heavyweights would have easily acquired him if they really wanted him. He has nice grit and shooting skills, but not much upside. The Partenopei need to decide whether Lorenzo Lucca can be the guy for a few months, thus pairing him with a project, or instead bring in someone closer to Romelu Lukaku's caliber. The second route would obviously be a lot more expensive.

Report – Inter Milan To Sign Two Defenders If France Superstar Leaves: Bayern Star On List

Inter Milan could make an audacious bid for Bayern Munich flop Kim Min-jae if Benjamin Pavard leaves the club at the end of the summer. According to Tuttosport via FCInterNews, the Nerazzurri will try to sign two defenders if the Frenchman departs San Siro. There's no doubt that Inter will reinforce their backline down the final stretch of the transfer window. Despite struggling to find an agreement with Udinese for Oumar Solet, they've cast a wide net in their search for a new defender. Therefore, Inter will unlikely approach the Bavarians for the former Napoli star unless they sell Benjamin Pavard first. In that case, Cristian Chivu's side may even sign two defenders. In addition to Kim, they have set their eyes on Arsenal's Jakub Kiwior and Lille's Alexsandro.

Report – Inter Milan Targeting A New Midfielder & Defender Before Transfer Window Shuts

Inter Milan will reportedly try to sign one new midfielder and defender at the tail-end of the summer transfer window. According to Sky Sport via FCInterNews, the Nerazzurri remain on the market for reinforcements. Despite adding three new faces to Cristian Chivu's squad, Inter will not sit tight toward the end of the summer. However, Manu Kone could be out of reach, with Roma taking Inter's top midfield target off the market. (Photo by) In addition to Kone, agents have offered Adrien Rabiot to the San Siro club amid an uncertain future at Marseille. Yet, the Italian giants are not interested in signing the French star due to his age. Therefore, they will pursue other targets. Meanwhile, they are keen to add to their defensive options, with Oumar Solet at the top of Beppe Marotta's wishlist. However, Udinese will not sanction the 25-year-old's loan move. As such, the Nerazzurri may focus on signing either Arsenal's Jakub Kiwior or Chelsea's Trevoh Chalobah.
