Hermann fires, Van der Dussen anchors as Proteas sink Zimbabwe in Tri-Series
Newcomer Rubin Hermann and Proteas captain Rassie van der Dussen scored impressive half-centuries to guide their team to a comfortable win.
Skipper van der Dussen remained unbeaten on 52 off 41 balls, which included six boundaries. Hermann played the aggressor's role, smashing 63 off just 36 deliveries, including three fours and four sixes.
Chasing a target of 145, South Africa did not get off to the best start, losing both openers early. Lhuan-dre Pretorius was dismissed for 4, followed by Reeza Hendricks for 6, both scalped by Tinotenda Maposa, reducing South Africa to 22/2.
That's when Hermann and van der Dussen stitched together a crucial 106-run partnership to steady the chase. Hermann was eventually bowled by Richard Ngarava. Dewald Brevis then joined his skipper and remained unbeaten on 13, helping South Africa reach the target in 17.2 overs with seven wickets in hand.
Maposa was the pick of the Zimbabwean bowlers, finishing with figures of 2/38, while Ngarava chipped in with 1/21 from his four overs.
Earlier, South Africa won the toss and opted to bowl first.
Zimbabwe too had a shaky start, losing their first wicket at 18, in the form of Wessly Madhevere for 13. Clive Madande followed soon after, caught and bowled by Corbin Bosch for 8, leaving the hosts struggling at 28/2. The Zimbabwe captain could only manage 9, as they slumped to 44/3.
However, opener Brian Bennett and Ryan Burl revived the innings with a 78-run stand. Bennett top-scored with a fluent 61 off 43 balls before being bowled by Lungi Ngidi. Burl remained unbeaten on 36 off 31 deliveries.
Zimbabwe's middle order failed to provide much support, and they finished at 144/6 in their 20 overs.
Corbin Bosch was outstanding with the ball, conceding just 16 runs and taking two wickets in his four overs. Nandre Burger, Nqabayomzi Peter, and Lungi Ngidi claimed a wicket each.
This was Zimbabwe's third loss of the series. They will now face New Zealand on July 24.

Dhaka: Bangladesh completed their first T20I series win against Pakistan, after prevailing in an eight-run win in the second game on Tuesday. The packed Shere Bangla National Stadium got a thrilling finish with the hosts staving off a late Faheem Ashraf onslaught. Pakistan's top six couldn't reach double digits in this game, with five having missed out in similar fashion in the previous outing too. This time it was their bottom-half that gave them some hope. Ashraf top scored with his maiden T20I half-century, having added 41 runs for the ninth wicket with Abbas Afridi. Bangladesh however kept their cool, particularly their pace trio of Shoriful Islam, Mustafizur Rahman and Tanzim Hasan putting pressure on the visitors. Bangladesh's start with the ball put them well in front, which also ultimately helped them get the win in the end. Earlier, Pakistan won the toss and opted to bowl first. Skipper Salman Agha's decision was proven correct as Faheem Ashraf, in the second over, removed Mohammad Naim (3) before Salman Mirza, in a span of three balls, got skipper Litton Das (8) caught out and Towhid Hridoy (0) run out to put Bangladesh under pressure early. Ahmed Daniyal then got the wicket of Parvez Emon (13) as Bangladesh lost four wickets inside the 10-over mark for just 53. Mahedi Hasan (33) tried to get Bangladesh back on track and added crucial runs for the fifth wicket with Jaker Ali before losing his wicket to Mohammad Nawaz. Shamim Hossain (1) was the next to depart after Ahmed Daniyal cleaned up his stumps, before Salman Mirza in the next over dismissed Tanzim Sakib (7) as Bangladesh lost their seventh wicket. Abbas Afridi, six balls later, cleaned up Rishad Hossain (8) as Bangladesh were pushed towards being bowled out. Shoriful Islam (1) was then run out while trying to get the in-form Jaker Ali back on strike in the final over. Jaker went on to score a brilliant 55 to take Bangladesh's total to 133 before being dismissed as the 10th wicket on the final ball of the innings. In reply, Pakistan lost their first wicket in the very first over as Saim Ayub (1) was run out on the last ball of the over. Mohammad Haris (0) was the next to depart in the very next over as Shoriful Islam got him trapped in front of the wicket. He then got Fakhar Zaman (8) caught behind as Pakistan were pushed on the back foot early in the chase. Tanzim then struck to remove Hasan Nawaz (0) and Mohammad Nawaz (0) on back-to-back deliveries to reduce Pakistan to 15 for 5. Skipper Salman Agha (9) stayed for 23 balls and tried to stabilise the innings but eventually fell victim to the run-rate pressure and lost his wicket to Mahedi Hasan while trying to clear the deep mid-wicket area. Khushdil Shah (13) then fell to Mehedi Hasan as Pakistan were reduced to 47 for 7. Abbas Afridi (19) played some good shots and added 41 runs for the eighth wicket with Faheem before losing his wicket to Shoriful Islam to give Bangladesh passage back into the match. Faheem Ashraf (51) then completed his half-century to get Pakistan on the verge of a win but was clean bowled by Rishad Hossain on the final ball of the 19th over. Pakistan needed 13 runs in the final over. Ahmed Daniyal (17) started the over with a boundary but lost his wicket on the second ball as Pakistan were bundled out for 125, eight runs short of the target.

Zimbabwe tri-series: Seifert's fireworks power NZ to seven-wicket win over SA
Harare: A fiery half-century from Tim Seifert and fine performances from the bowling attack helped New Zealand complete a seven-wicket win over South Africa in the tri-nation series match at Harare on Tuesday. With this win, NZ have ended the group stage of the series with three wins in three matches and set a title clash with Proteas, who won two and lost two to finish second. The hosts, Zimbabwe, are out of the competition after losing all three matches. NZ opted to field first after winning the toss. They consistently troubled the Proteas batting, reducing them to 79/5 in 14.1 overs. Reeza Hendricks (41 in 37 balls, with four boundaries and a six) offered some resistance at the top, helping SA get past the 100-run mark in 15.3 overs. George Linde (23* in 15 balls, with a four and six) was the only other notable contribution as SA finished with 134/8 in their 20 overs. "Saw 5/2, wasn't sure if it was runs or wickets... then realised five wickets were down": Chanderpaul recalling West Indies' 27 all out
Birmingham: West Indies were bowled out for just 27 runs by Australia in the recently concluded Test series in the Caribbean, where the visitors completed a 3-0 whitewash. The shocking collapse left former West Indies captain Shivnarine Chanderpaul disheartened. Chanderpaul, who is currently the coach of the West Indies Champions team in the World Champions of Legends tournament, shared his disappointment, saying, "Yeah, definitely heartbroken, to West Indian supporters, West Indian fans, and someone who has played for West Indies for so long and giving your heart to the West Indies team, especially during tough times, you go out there and fight your best to make sure your team gets into a good position to win matches. Sometimes you win, sometimes you don't." Recalling how he found out about the score, he said, "When I saw the total overnight, I thought maybe we could manage around 200 runs. Then when I came home and switched on the television, I saw 5/2. I wasn't too sure if it was two wickets down or five wickets down and then when I checked the score on ESPN, I saw five wickets had fallen, and I was like, what the hell is going on here? Eventually, I saw we were all out for 27." Calling the performance embarrassing, Chanderpaul admitted, "Yes, it's embarrassing for us. You expect your team to do better even though Australia have a very good bowling attack but you're still expecting at least 200 runs from your team." He still believes the West Indies have the talent to bounce back. "Look, we still have good players, and the guys can still do better but hopefully, we can get it right soon," he added.
