Eco-tourism infrastructure gets a boost with two more eco huts getting ready in Tamil Nadu's Pachamalai hills
The infrastructure enhancements have been carried out under the Tamil Nadu Innovation Initiatives (TANII) 2024-25 with an allocation of ₹1.1 crore.
Two eco huts have been constructed at Top Sengattupatti atop the Pachamalai as part of the department's ongoing eco-tourism infrastructure enhancement, said a senior official. The eco huts have been provided with double cots, a separate dining place, restroom, and a verandah for visitors to enjoy the verdant environment on the hills.
A British-era bungalow has been renovated as part of this initiative and made ready to accommodate tourists. The eco huts and the revamped British bungalow would be thrown open to the visitors soon, the official said.
A part of the Eastern ghats, the scenic Pachamalai, which comes under the Thuraiyur Forest Range, is endowed with thick forest areas, ridges and valleys. It is home to various animal and bird species besides butterflies. A study undertaken by the Forest Department in December 2024 recorded as many as 126 butterfly species and a healthy butterfly population in the hill region. The hilly terrain has the popular Koraiyar and Mangalam waterfalls besides dedicated trekking routes at Sholamathi, Kalaimman Koil, and Kuthirai Paathai for the trekkers and adventure lovers.
Amenities at waterfalls
The officials said bathing facilities had been improved at the Koraiyar falls. This includes construction of safe access steps and provision of safety rails for secure bathing in the stream. Safety measures have also been put in place at Mangalam falls. All these developments complement the existing two tree top accommodations which were established in 2015 to promote eco-tourism at Pachamalai.

What if we told you that your honeymoon is not just for the obvious? It's for secret coves whispering stories and sunsets that paint your memories forever. What makes an Andaman honeymoon different from anywhere else in India? It's not just the beaches. It's the contrast. Island life here is both wild and gentle. Morning walks on empty shores meet late-night talks under starlit skies, and every path seems to end in a new discovery. Unlike busy Goa or the crowded Kerala backwaters, these islands stay calm and pure. Giving you both adventure and alone time in one trip Tired of the usual honeymoon spots? These seven places are waiting to be discovered. 1. Radhanagar Beach – The Iconic Sunset Haven Often called Beach No. 7 on Havelock Island, this wide stretch of white sand is famous for its fiery sunsets. Here the water glows gold and orange as the sun dips low. Walk hand-in-hand, feel the soft sand under your feet, and watch the sky burst into color. No fancy cafes, just you two and the horizon. 2. Sitapur Beach – Neil Island's Quiet Gem On Neil Island, Sitapur Beach greets you with calm shallows and pastel skies. Ross Island – Ruins and Peacocks at Play A short boat ride from Port Blair takes you to Ross Island. Once the British administrative capital, it now lies in sweet decay. Nature has reclaimed its walls, and peacocks wander through lamp-lit paths. Explore the old church, the cottages, and the cemetery hand-in-hand. Let history and wildlife frame your love story. 4. North Bay Island – Underwater Romance For couples who love the sea, dive into coral gardens at North Bay Island. The clear water reveals colorful fish parading around coral reefs. Take a guided snorkeling tour, hold hands underwater, and meet sea turtles and clownfish in their own world. It is a quiet thrill you'll talk about for years. 5. Baratang Island – A Journey to Limestone Caves Drive through dense forests. Cross mangrove creeks and arrive at the famous limestone caves of Baratang. The narrow cave opening and the soft drip of stalactites feel like stepping into another realm. Explore the caves with a local guide. Marvel at nature's art and share a quiet moment in the underground calm. 6. Mount Harriet – Panoramic Island Views As the highest point in South Andaman, Mount Harriet offers 360-degree views of the islands below. Trek through evergreen forests. Hear bird calls and find a rocky outcrop with your name written in wind. Take a moment at the peak to sit close, breathe deep, and watch the patchwork of green and blue spread before you. 7. Cellular Jail Light and Sound Show – Love and Freedom Not a nature spot but a must-visit heritage experience The majestic Cellular Jail comes alive each evening with a moving light and sound show that tells the story of India's struggle for independence. Feel the emotions woven into the night air as you hold each other close under the soft glow of history. Practical Tips for Your Andaman Honeymoon 1. Dress light and carry reef-safe sunscreen and a hat to stay fresh under the sun. 2. Book boat rides and guided tours a day in advance to get early slots and avoid crowds. 3-pack of swimwear, quick-dry clothes, and a light rain jacket just in case 4. Respect nature. Stay on marked trails and avoid touching coral or disturbing wildlife. 5. Try local cuisine from beachside stalls and support small vendors for a true island taste. Final Thought Your honeymoon in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands is more than a beach vacation. It's a chance to wander off the map, discover hidden wonders, and build memories that feel as vast as the ocean. Let the salt breeze write your love story and the islands whisper it back to you. Don't just visit Andaman. Explore it together with open hearts and curious minds.
