Texas Longhorns kicker Bert Auburn enters transfer portal
Texas will have a new starting kicker for the 2025-26 season.
Senior kicker Bert Auburn announced Thursday that he is entering the NCAA transfer portal after four seasons with the Longhorns. Auburn leaves as Texas' all-time leader in field goals made (66) and total points scored (376).
The news comes just days after head coach Steve Sarkisian said the team's kicking competition between Auburn and junior Will Stone remained ongoing. Stone handled kickoffs throughout last season and assumed place-kicking duties in the College Football Playoff Semifinal against Ohio State after Auburn was benched for misses during the Peach Bowl.
'Football is an ultimate team sport, but there's specific positions that are kind of individualized... There's a psychological approach that we have tried to use and there's obviously the physical approach. We'll monitor that through pregame and make a decision and go." Steve Sarkisian said ahead of the Cotton Bowl.
Earlier in the year, Texas Head Coach Steve Sarkisian praised Auburn:, "He's great for our specialists room. He's a great worker. He's a great leader."
Auburn, who appeared in 28 games for Texas, was recently named to Phil Steele's 2024 Preseason All-America Second Team and the media's preseason All-SEC First Team. He was also tabbed to the Lou Groza Award preseason watch list, recognizing the nation's top kicker. He finished the 2024 season 16 of 25 on field goals, with six of those misses coming in the final five games of the season. It's unclear destinations that may target Auburn.

Mercury beat the Wings 93-80 to spoil Paige Bueckers' 35-point performance
PHOENIX (AP) — Satou Sabally had 20 points and 10 rebounds against her former team, Alyssa Thomas added 11 points and 10 assists, and the Phoenix Mercury beat the Dallas Wings 93-80 on Wednesday night to spoil Paige Bueckers' 35-point performance. Bueckers, who returned after missing four games due to concussion protocol and an illness, made her first six shots of the game and finished 13 of 19. She became the fourth rookie in Dallas history to score 30-plus points in a single game, with Arike Ogunbowale the last to do it in 2019. But the rest of the Wings combined to go 16 of 48 (33%) from the field. Kitija Laksa had 14 points and four 3-pointers for Phoenix (7-4). Kathryn Westbeld scored all 11 of her points in the first half and Lexi Held also finished with 11 points. DiJonai Carrington added 11 points and eight rebounds for Dallas (1-10). Ogunbowale was just 2-of-10 shooting for 10 points. Bueckers went 8 of 10 from the field in the first half, with three 3-pointers and three free throws, to score 22 of Dallas' 36 points. De'Aaron Fox offers injury update
De'Aaron Fox offers injury update originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Last season, before the trade deadline, the San Antonio Spurs added All-Star point guard De'Aaron Fox from the Sacramento Kings, hoping that he would be the long-term running mate for Victor Wembanyama. Advertisement The pair played only five games together, going 2-3, before Wembanyama had his season ended early with a deep vein thrombosis diagnosis in his shoulder. A few weeks later, Fox had his season ended as well, undergoing surgery on his pinkie finger. In 17 games with the Spurs, Fox averaged 19.7 points and 6.8 assists, clearly needing to get used to his new team. He expects to use the offseason to settle into his role with his new teammates and is already playing five-on-five and has been cleared for contact. 'I'm doing well. The surgery went fine,' Fox told The Houston Chronicle. 'I've been cleared, so I played a little five-on-five, and I've done contact stuff, so I'll be ready for next year.' The Spurs gave up Zach Collins, Tre Jones, Sidy Cissoko, and four first-round draft picks to the Kings and Chicago Bulls in a three-team deal to land Fox, although several of those picks had protections on them, and one of them ended up not conveying to the Kings. Advertisement Before the trade, Fox asked the Kings to get a deal done and listed the Spurs as the only acceptable landing spot. With Wembanyama in town, San Antonio has become a premier destination, and Fox got in on the ground floor, expecting the team to find massive success in the next few years.
