Cornerback Max Hurleman #37 of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish runs downfield on punt coverage during the Penn State Nittany Lions versus Notre Dame Fighting Irish College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Capital One Orange Bowl on January 9, 2025, at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. | Photo by Joe Robbins/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images The Steelers announced a flurry of roster moves Monday, signing three players following rookie minicamp tryouts and releasing running back Aaron Shampklin to make room. The signings are former Notre Dame running back Max Hurleman, former Ohio State and Indianapolis Colts running back Trey Sermon, and former Lindenwood offensive lineman Gareth Warren. Advertisement The Sermon signing was previously reported. Hurleman, although announced as a running back, has worn a number of hats over his football career. Listed as a cornerback at Notre Dame, he largely played on special teams, logging snaps on coverage units and also returning punts. Before transferring to the Fighting Irish, he played four years at Colgate: three as a running back and one at wide receiver. The 5'11, 202-pound athlete ran a 4.68-second 40-yard dash at his pro day along with a 36' vertical and 13 reps on the bench press. In 2024, he recorded 13 total tackles and 23 punt returns with a six-yard average. Over his Colgate career, he recorded 814 rushing yards on 194 attempts, 80 receptions for 841 yards, and four touchdowns. Will Howard's GPA at Ohio State Sends Clear Message Ahead of NFL Draft
Will Howard's NFL draft stock continues to be widely debated despite the quarterback leading the Ohio State Buckeyes to a national championship. The majority of NFL mock drafts predict Howard will be a potential Day 3 pick. Athlon Sports' Luke Easterling has Howard absent from his final four-round NFL mock draft. The Athletic's Dane Brugler has the Las Vegas Raiders selecting Howard with the No. 143 overall pick in the fifth round, reuniting the star with former Buckeyes offensive coordinator Chip Kelly. Advertisement One thing that appears to be abundantly clear is Howard has the intelligence to both learn and operate an NFL offense. The Cotton Bowl revealed that Howard posted an impressive GPA at Ohio State. Petty Scholar-Athlete for the Buckeyes participating in the 2025 College Football Playoff Semifinal at the 89th Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic," the Cotton Bowl detailed in Howard's profile. Texas Longhorns kicker Bert Auburn enters transfer portal
Texas Longhorns kicker Bert Auburn enters transfer portal Texas will have a new starting kicker for the 2025-26 season. Senior kicker Bert Auburn announced Thursday that he is entering the NCAA transfer portal after four seasons with the Longhorns. Auburn leaves as Texas' all-time leader in field goals made (66) and total points scored (376). The news comes just days after head coach Steve Sarkisian said the team's kicking competition between Auburn and junior Will Stone remained ongoing. Stone handled kickoffs throughout last season and assumed place-kicking duties in the College Football Playoff Semifinal against Ohio State after Auburn was benched for misses during the Peach Bowl. 'Football is an ultimate team sport, but there's specific positions that are kind of individualized... There's a psychological approach that we have tried to use and there's obviously the physical approach. We'll monitor that through pregame and make a decision and go." Steve Sarkisian said ahead of the Cotton Bowl. Earlier in the year, Texas Head Coach Steve Sarkisian praised Auburn:, "He's great for our specialists room. He's a great worker. He's a great leader." Auburn, who appeared in 28 games for Texas, was recently named to Phil Steele's 2024 Preseason All-America Second Team and the media's preseason All-SEC First Team. He was also tabbed to the Lou Groza Award preseason watch list, recognizing the nation's top kicker. He finished the 2024 season 16 of 25 on field goals, with six of those misses coming in the final five games of the season. It's unclear destinations that may target Auburn.
