Ola Electric Car, Rickshaw & LCV Teased- All To Be Based On Gen 4 Platform

NDTV2 days ago
Ola Electric announced multiple new developments at its Sankalp 2025 event. Among multiple others, the brand had announced its Gen 4 platform. Currently under development, the platform will be used for multiple new vehicles. Apart from the electric scooters and motorcycles, the platform will form the base for other types of vehicles, including an electric car, a three-wheeler auto rickshaw, and an LCV.
The video highlighted the idea of "Build to power everything from personal to shared mobility." There are indications that the electric two-wheeler maker is exploring the development of these concepts, but it remains unclear if Ola Electric will move forward with the production of these specific projects.
The Gen 4 platform will feature a new motor and will utilize the latest 4680 Bharat cell for power. The maximum power output of this new motor will reach 16 kW, and it will be 15 percent more energy efficient compared to the Gen 3 platform. Additionally, the Gen 4 platform will be lighter and more cost-effective since the battery cells are being produced in-house by Ola at its Gigafactory facility.
While the electric three-wheeler showcased by the brand might compete against the Bajaj Gogo. The silhouette of the electric car showcased in the presentation hints at a small car that seems to be a rival to the MG Comet EV. This is in sharp contrast to the sporty car that the brand had teased earlier. However, the project was scrapped to focus on the two-wheeler market.
The products, as mentioned earlier, will be the future of the brand, while the current lineup is mostly focused on two-wheelers. The homegrown manufacturer is working on further diversifying its portfolio. Contributing to the goal are the recently revealed Ola S1 Pro Sport electric scooter and the upcoming performance electric motorcycle, the Ola Diamondhead.

Cab unions protest exclusion from meet with aggregators

Panaji: Upset about being kept out of a meeting on Goa's transportation sector, Goa's taxi unions staged a silent protest outside the transport department on Wednesday. The unions' members questioned why they were not invited to govt's meeting with Ola and Uber. Given that representatives from app-based taxi aggregators were present at the meeting, taxi union leaders suspect that govt is in talks with Ola and Uber to commence operations in Goa. Transport minister Mauvin Godinho did not deny that app-based aggregators were present at the meeting. However, he said that the meeting was convened by the Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and public policy consultant, Chase Advisors. 'After deliberations, let's see what recommendations come from them. All industry bodies have supported taxi aggregators. The taxi operators don't want this. They want to go back to the old system, no aggregator, make one trip and sit at home. How long can this go on?' said Godinho. He mentioned that govt would be holding a meeting with local taxi unions in the coming days. The taxi operators questioned CM Pramod Sawant's assurance in the assembly that no app-based services would be granted approval to operate in Goa. 'The transport minister said that he would take strict action against Ola and Uber if they are found operating in the state. To date, no action has been taken against them, but instead, the minister has gone and sat with them for tea,' said one of the taxi operators. They criticised govt for charging hefty fees for the installation of digital taxi meters. 'Digital meters that are available for Rs 3,500 have been installed for Rs 11,500. The minister must publicly explain why this was done. A control room was supposed to be created to monitor the taxis that had installed digital meters. Where is this control room? Why are we made to pay Rs 5,000 every year?' said the taxi operators. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). This year's Ather Community Day is scheduled for August 30th, and the electric two wheeler maker has confirmed the launch of a new e-scooter series along with major software updates for its existing products. Ola Electric shares jump 13%, up over 20% in two sessions. Should you buy?

Ola Electric shares extended their rally on Wednesday, surging over 13% in intraday trade. The company's shares were trading 13.23% higher at Rs 50.76 around 10:27 am on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).The surge came on the back of heavy trading volumes. This marks the second straight session of gains for the electric two-wheeler Tuesday, the stock climbed almost sharply after founder and chairman Bhavish Aggarwal outlined an aggressive strategy to reclaim market share and improve profitability in India's competitive EV The recent rally comes after a bruising year for the company. Ola Electric shares have plunged 41% so far in 2025 and are down nearly 63% over the past 12 months, leaving investors cautious even as the stock bounces back sharply this rebound, however, faces an immediate challenge: looming GST reforms. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced last week that the government plans to lower GST rates on several goods and services by Diwali, and proposals under discussion include cutting GST on small cars from 28% to 18%.Analysts warn this could disrupt the fragile recovery in the EV sector. HSBC Global Research said while the move may boost auto demand overall, it could hurt electric vehicle makers if states raise road taxes to make up for lost voiced similar concerns, noting that if the GST cut on internal combustion engine vehicles goes through, the price gap between petrol and electric vehicles will widen sharply, potentially slowing EV policy uncertainty comes at a time when Ola Electric's financial performance remains under severe pressure. For the quarter ended June 30, the company reported a consolidated net loss of Rs 428 crore, up 23% year-on-year, while revenues halved to Rs 828 crore. EBITDA losses widened to Rs 237 crore, with margins slipping to -28.6% from -12.5% a year now, the market seems to be cheering Ola Electric's bold revival plan, but the real test lies ahead. Will the government's tax reforms derail the EV push, or will they trigger a broader boom in mobility that benefits everyone? For Ola investors, the question is whether this rally is the start of a turnaround or just a short-lived bounce.- Ends
