Tely Boyz Muscat win tournament in India

Oman based cricket team, Tely Boyz Muscat, has made it big at a tournament conducted in southern Indian state of Kerala.
The All-India Tennis Ball Cricket Tournament – 'Kotta Cup Season 4', organised by St Fort Cricket Club Thalassery, Kerala, witnessed the Tely Boyz Muscat arriving with flying colours after defeating Fort Warriors, Thiruvananthapuram by 3 runs in the final.
With this win, they became the first-ever overseas team to lift the Kotta Cup, making the expatriate community in Oman proud of chasing their innate sports talents.
Defeating strong local and inter-district teams, Tely Boyz remained unbeaten throughout the league stage. In the highly intense and thrilling final, they faced the formidable Fort Warriors, Thiruvananthapuram, and clinched the title with a stellar all-round performance.
Under the captaincy of Namshi, the team skillfully adapted to the unique rules and pitch conditions of the Kotta ground. With tactical leadership and sharp decision-making, Namshi led the team to achieve their dream triumph.
Telyboyz members, Tafsi, Nuvaid, Hafis, Rafath, Anoob, Jamshi, Finoj and Muhammad Ali, travelled all the way from Oman to join Shuhaib, Sameer, Ubais and Saleem from Dubai, Shanawas and Raffi from Thalassery to support and encourage the team's success.
From start to finish, the players were backed by passionate supporters who cheered from the gallery, making the win all the more memorable. When the team lifted the trophy, it was not just an individual achievement, but a moment of collective pride for the entire Tely Boyz community.
Special thanks and heartfelt gratitude were extended to St Fort Cricket Club, especially Safar and team, for organising the tournament with great professionalism. Tafsi, one of the founding members of Tely Boyz, shared that participating in such a well-managed and grand event turned out to be the right decision – a fact proven by their championship win.
In the individual awards category, Firas was named Player of the Final for his standout performance, Ramees of Tely Boyz won both Best Batsman and Player of the Tournament for his consistent excellence throughout the series.
Upon their return to Muscat, the champion team received a grand welcome at the Muscat International Airport, marking a proud chapter in Tely Boyz Muscat's journey.

Shifas excels in World Masters Games in Taipei
KABEER YOUSUF @kabiyousef An expatriate sports teacher in Oman has bagged bronze medal in the 35+ handball category at the World Masters Games 2025 held in Taipei which in turn has also marked India's first-ever international medal in Handball. PB Shifas, a handball and basketball coach at the Indian School Al Wadi Al Kabir (ISWK) feels all his 15 years of imparting training at the school, clubbed with his skill and leadership on the court were instrumental in securing this milestone victory at the international sporting event. 'This is a proud moment not only for handball as a sport but for every aspiring player across the continent who wants to excel in their chosen sports arena,' said Shifas, adding 'It's an honour to represent the country of my birth and the country of my choice 'Oman', and is an incredible honour.' The team led by Shifas displayed exceptional teamwork, determination, and passion, overcoming tough international competition to bring glory to the nation. The ISWK school management said that this achievement not only marks a personal milestone for Shifas but also India's first-ever international medal in handball, making it a defining moment in the country's sporting history. The teams have consistently excelled, participating in national-level tournaments for the last 11 years under his mentorship. 'This is a remarkable achievement and a proud moment for Indian School Al Wadi Al Kabir and all Indian schools in Oman. Shifas' dedication, perseverance, and passion for sports have not only led to this prestigious international recognition but also continue to inspire our students every day. We salute his spirit and contribution," said DN Rao, Principal of ISWK. Before achieving international recognition, Shifas was a prominent handball player in India, having represented Kerala University and Mahatma Gandhi University for an impressive six consecutive years.

Nepali 'Everest Man' breaks own record with 31st summit
Kathmandu - A 55-year-old Nepali climber dubbed "Everest Man" reached the peak of the world's highest mountain for a record 31st time on Tuesday, more than three decades after his first summit. "Massive congratulations to the legendary Kami Rita Sherpa on his 31st successful ascent of Everest, the highest number of ascents by anyone in history," expedition organiser Seven Summit Treks said. "Kami Rita Sherpa needs no introduction. He is not just a national climbing hero, but a global symbol of Everest itself," it added. Sherpa first stood on the top of Mount Everest in 1994 when working for a commercial expedition. He has climbed Everest almost every year since, guiding clients. Sherpa, speaking a year ago after he had climbed the 8,849-metre (29,032-foot) peak for the 29th and 30th times, said that he was "just working" and did not plan on setting records. "I am glad for the record, but records are eventually broken," he told AFP in May 2024. "I am happier that my climbs help Nepal be recognised in the world." Seven Summit Treks said he completed the climb on Tuesday as the leader of an Indian army team, adding that he "not only reached the summit himself, but also led and guided the last remaining members of the team to the top". - 'To the next height' - Another Nepali climber, Tashi Gyalzen Sherpa, 29, returned to the capital Kathmandu on Tuesday after he made a record-breaking four summits of Everest in just 15 days, completing the last on May 23, according to 8K Expeditions. "I feel proud, it was a very difficult task, but I made it a success," Gyalzen Sherpa told AFP after landing in Kathmandu, where his family and mountaineering fans welcomed him. "Earlier, many pioneers have scaled the Everest many times, but not four times in one season." The records come as the spring climbing season nears its end. More than 500 climbers and their guides have already reached the summit of Everest since the route opened, taking advantage of brief spells of good weather, according to Nepal's tourism department. The season has so far recorded the fewest number of deaths on Everest in recent years. Two climbers, a Filipino and an Indian, have died on its high camps. Nepal has issued more than 1,100 permits for mountaineers this season, including 458 for Everest, earning more than $5 million in royalties. The country is home to eight of the world's 10 highest peaks and welcomes hundreds of adventurers each spring, when temperatures are warmer and winds are typically calmer. Earlier this month, British climber Kenton Cool, 51, successfully climbed Everest for the 19th time, extending his record for the most summits by a non-Nepali. Tourist ministry official Himal Gautam, director of its mountaineering and adventure section, said Kami Rita Sherpa's achievement reflected on the country's wider efforts. "Kami Rita Sherpa's record ascent has helped to take Nepal's mountaineering sector to the next height," Gautam said. A climbing boom has made mountaineering a lucrative business since Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa made the first ascent in 1953. Last year, more than 800 climbers made it to the peak of Everest, including 74 from the northern Tibet side.

Bezzecchi ends win drought in spectacular British MotoGP
SILVERSTONE, United Kingdom: Italy's Marco Bezzecchi won an incident-packed British MotoGP on Sunday for his first win since India in 2023 in a race at Silverstone that had two starts. The 26-year-old Aprilia rider came home ahead of France's Johann Zarco (Honda LCR), backing up his surprise win in France a fortnight ago, with championship leader Marc Marquez (Ducati) just snatching third. Marquez extends his lead in the standings over his younger brother Alex. The unluckiest rider was France's 2021 world champion Fabio Quartararo, who had taken pole for the third successive race and looked set for his first win since 2022. However, a technical problem on his Yamaha ended his race on the 12th lap. His misery contrasted to the joy on the exuberant Bezzecchi's face. "It's amazing, I started a new adventure, Aprilia trusted in me," said the mop-haired Italian. "I worked really hard, through some tough periods in past races but never gave up, thanks to the factory. "Thanks to my family and those who stayed close to me in all these tough moments." Zarco at 34 is the oldest rider on the circuit, but he is revelling in what is proving to be an Indian summer for him. "I cannot believe it, a very special race, good to have a second start," he said. "On the second start I got the first three corners perfectly, gained positions, then I was on the podium. "When I saw Fabio have a technical problem I even thought I could win another race." All the riders were able to take part in chapter two of the race — including both the Marquez brothers who had crashed out — as three laps had yet to be completed. Alex had gone on the opening corner and Marc on the second lap when he was leading. However, a red flag came out because there was oil on the track — resulting from a collision between Franco Morbidelli and Aleix Espargaro. Quartararo got a buffer too as Jack Miller on a satellite Yamaha bike surged into second on the second lap and Zarco moved into third. The pressure appeared to get to the two Ducati riders. They both went too wide on a corner on the third lap dropping Marc Marquez and two-time world champion Francesco Bagnaia well down the field. Bagnaia's race finished on the fourth lap, the Italian coming to grief down on his knees in the gravel his head raised to the heavens and shaking his hands in despair. Miller's dreams of a podium finish disappeared on the seventh lap as the Australian was passed by Bezzecchi and Zarco and then dropped to fifth. Quartararo held a five second lead over his pursuers with 11 laps remaining but Marc Marquez was pushing and making ground through the field. Marc Marquez moved into fourth on the 11th lap, some eight seconds behind Quartararo but with the Frenchman's compatriot Zarco next in his sights. - DISCONSOLATE - However, the complexion of the race changed when disaster struck for Quartararo. The 26-year-old burst into tears, slapped his control panel and after climbing off his bike went down on his haunches sobbing with his head in his hands. The disconsolate Frenchman received a resounding round of applause as he trudged back to the Yamaha stable. His mishap left Bezzecchi in the lead, three seconds ahead of Zarco with Marc Marquez a further two seconds behind in third. Neverthless it was Marquez who had to watch himself as he came under pressure for third from Morbidelli and after back and forth on the final lap the Spaniard just got his nose in front. A rather sullen Marquez said the second start had "saved the day" allowing him to make up for the mistake in the 'first race.' His relief was nothing compared to the joy of Bezzecchi who celebrated understandably in raucous fashion with his team. — AFP
