AP awards Rs 62.4 crore legacy waste clearance project to Blue Planet; targets garbage-free state by 2025
VIJAYAWADA: In a significant push toward a garbage-free Andhra, the Swachh Andhra Corporation, in coordination with the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department, has awarded legacy waste remediation contracts worth Rs 62.4 crore to Blue Planet Environmental Solutions Pvt. Ltd.
The work will be executed by its subsidiary, Zigma Global Environ Solutions, under the Swachh Bharat Mission Urban (SBM-U) 2.0.
The initiative targets the removal of over 9.2 lakh metric tons of legacy waste across major urban areas including Chittoor, Tirupati, Anantapur, Gudur, and two large dumpsites under Nellore and Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporations. The six-month project involves bio-remediation, bio-mining, and land reclamation, adhering to Central Pollution Control Board guidelines and the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016.
Officials said the project will unlock valuable urban land, enhance air and groundwater quality, and reduce carbon emissions. It is also expected to create significant employment for semi-skilled and unskilled workers, contributing to local economic development.
'This is a crucial step in our goal to make the state free of legacy waste by October 2, 2025,' said a Swachh Andhra Corporation official.
Prashant Singh, CEO of Blue Planet, stated, 'Sustainability begins with action. This project goes beyond waste removal—it's about restoring land, uplifting communities, and advancing a circular economy.'
Zigma Global Director Ilangovan Thangavelu Kugalur added that the initiative aligns with India's broader vision of environmental restoration and community empowerment.

"In my capacity as Chancellor of 29 state-funded universities, I am actively encouraging our universities to go for international collaboration, industry partnership and promoting apprenticeships. I have also asked universities to offer short-term programmes in foreign languages such as German, Japanese, Spanish, Portuguese, Mandarin, Italian and others. Knowledge of foreign languages will give our youths an advantage in the employment market," he added. "Rightly regarded as the Gateway of India, Maharashtra serves as India's primary gateway to global commerce and a key hub for seamless trade. The completion of the Deep Water Port at Vadhavan and the International Airport at Navi Mumbai are going to transform the state like never before," the Governor said. According to the Governor, the foundation of Maharashtra's industrial strength lies in our robust MSME sector. "Home to more than 82.63 lakh registered MSMEs -- the largest in India -- this sector is a critical driver of grassroots economic activity and employment generation," he noted. He said that the state government has launched the Maharashtra Technical Textiles Mission -- making Maharashtra the first state in India to align with the Centre's National Technical Textiles Mission. "My government is set to implement the new Maharashtra Electric Vehicle Policy from April 1, 2025, which is aimed at promoting eco-friendly transportation and reducing our carbon footprint. 7,799 train passengers fined for ticketless travel in Sonepur division
Patna: Sonepur division of the East Central Railway (ECR) has recorded a collection of Rs 59,04,320 as fine and arrested 7,799 passengers for ticketless travel in a single day operation conducted on June 23, said Sonepur divisional railway manager, (DRM) Vivek Bhushan Sood. According to Sood, each travelling ticket examiner (TTE) in the Sonepur division achieved an exceptional daily average earning of Rs 8,137, surpassing the ECR's average of Rs 6,911 per TTE. This impressive performance marks a significant leap in both operational efficiency and revenue generation for the division, he said. Sonepur senior divisional commercial manager (senior DCM) Raushan Kumar on Wednesday told this newspaper that the large-scale drive targeted unauthorised travel on mail and express trains with a special focus on reserved coaches. "The action not only contributed to cleaner and more orderly passenger services, but also offered much needed relief to the genuine passengers in peak summer," he said, adding a positive outcome of the operation was a 15% rise in sale of unreserved tickets across the division. "Coordinated effort reflected our commitment to enhancing passenger experience while safeguarding railway revenue. The response from passengers has been largely supportive and we will continue such drives to maintain discipline and fairness in the system," Kumar said.

Uttar Pradesh to develop integrated manufacturing hubs in Agra, Prayagraj at Rs 1,046 crore cost
Uttar Pradesh will develop two world-class Integrated Manufacturing Clusters (IMCs) in Agra and Prayagraj at an estimated cost of Rs 1,046 crore, which will accelerate industrial development in the state and generate large-scale employment. The IMCs will house a wide array of manufacturing units alongside facilities for R&D, technological innovation, and skill development. Provisions have also been made to establish incubation centres that support traditional industries and foster entrepreneurship, a statement said on Wednesday. These developments will create significant employment opportunities, particularly for local youth, who will benefit from integrating skills into the industry, it added. These clusters will be developed through a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) in partnership with the central and state governments. "The Agra IMC will be developed across 1,058 acres in Rahan Kalan, while the Prayagraj IMC will span 351 acres in Karchana block. Both sites will be equipped with cutting-edge infrastructure, including roads, water and power supply, ICT services, and green spaces. The overarching aim is not only to attract investments and boost manufacturing but also to establish these zones as model industrial cities," it added. Live Events With a total estimated cost of Rs 1,046 crore, work is underway to establish the core infrastructure required to attract private investments for these clusters, the statement said. "Investors will benefit from a ready-to-use, world-class industrial ecosystem without incurring additional setup costs, further enhancing the state's business-friendly image," it added. The Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Authority (UPSIDA) will provide land and resources for this project. A dedicated project implementation team will oversee the development and ensure timely execution, with a target completion time of 36 months. Once operational, the IMCs will play a crucial role in redefining the industrial identity of Agra and Prayagraj, placing them prominently on Uttar Pradesh's industrial map. National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation Limited (NICDC), a central government agency, will support the project through funding and technical expertise. The SPV - Integrated Manufacturing Cluster Agra Prayagraj Limited - with equal participation from both governments, will ensure timely and effective implementation of the project, it said.
