West Indies' Matthew Forde equals fastest ODI half-century record against Ireland in second 50-overs game at Clontarf
Josh Little suffered the brunt of the brutality, being hit for four maximums in one over as the Windies tail took full advantage of the small boundaries at Castle Avenue to plunder 98 from the final six overs and post a mighty 352-8.
Liam McCarthy was the pick of the Ireland attack, again bowling with good pace and claiming his first international wicket in his second match when he found an edge from West Indian captain Shai Hope.
The Railway Union speedster also had Keacy Carty caught behind for 102 and ended Forde's rampage on 58 by knocking out his leg stump with a yorker, as he returned figures of 3-66.
Rain then prevented the start of the reply, allowing the Boys in Green to escape with a share of the spoils and take a 1-0 lead into Sunday's final game of the series.

Dara O'Shea delivers perfect description of returning Ireland teammate
Chiedozie Ogbene can play a key role in Ireland's World Cup qualification campaign, according to his Ipswich Town and Boys in Green teammate Dara O'Shea. Tractor Boys skipper O'Shea welcomed the Corkman back from an agonising 10-month injury lay-off as Ogbene completed 68 minutes of their 1-1 Championship opener away to Birmingham City. He delivered an apt description of the 28-year-old and his impact on returning to first-team duties for the first time since he tore his achilles last October - calling Ogbene a 'burst of happiness.' READ MORE: Heimir Hallgrimsson will be thrilled with Troy Parrott's comments as Ireland striker's sensational scoring run continues READ MORE: Ciara Mageean receives support on Camogie's big day at Croke Park The man who was handed the captain's armband during pre-season said: 'Having Chieo back is like a new signing. It's quite remarkable really how he carries himself, I've never known someone to be as positive as he was. 'If you ask anybody a question about him, they'll probably give you the same sort of answer. He's just such a burst of happiness. 'He comes in in the morning, he's dancing, and I'm thinking, fair play to you. For someone to be on the sidelines for so long, be so happy, to have the mindset and the work ethic as well, he's worked so so hard to get himself back in the shape that he's in and you've seen that in the pre-season games. 'He's almost ahead of schedule and shouldn't have played as many minutes, but because he's moving so well and looking so well, he's got that opportunity. 'Credit to him and I'm really looking forward to having to play with him again this season, it's been a long time without him and obviously he'll do well for our country too.' Turning his focus briefly onto international affairs, O'Shea spoke of the importance of Ireland returning to the biggest stages in football. He was a 16-year-old in the West Brom academy when the Boys in Green last appeared in a major tournament - when Martin O'Neill and Roy Keane guided Ireland to the last-16 at Euro 2016 in France. Heimir Hallgrímsson is now in charge and O'Shea said: 'It's World Cup qualification. It's something that as a nation we need to qualify for and get to a major tournament. There's no better time than the next World Cup which will hopefully be amazing. 'There's obviously a few games to go before we meet up with them but definitely one of my goals this season is to try and qualify for that.' Double try-scorer Anna McGann relishing Ireland competition
Anna McGann had three international tries to her name before yesterday, all coming in a hat-trick performance in the Six Nations win over Italy in March. Try number four for the Athlone woman came in the second half of the 47-26 defeat to Canada as Ireland mounted a comeback of sorts in Belfast. It was a trademark winger's finish, picking up possession ten yards out and beating a defender to touch down in the corner. It was her fifth try that stood out, however. The 27-year-old came off her wing, took a pop pass from Claire Boles in midfield before bursting through four defenders to score under the posts. "To be honest, I only remember dotting it down," she said modestly before reflecting on her progress since the Six Nations "If you look at Dannah [O'Brien] putting us in the right part of the pitch and that was just building in the second half. "I think it was just me dotting it down at the end of the day. It was more of a team effort. "I definitely took a bit of confidence from the Six Nations, but that was four months ago now. "We're onto a new challenge and we're constantly wanting to get better as a squad as well. "I definitely took a bit of confidence from that, but I know that this ceiling is a lot higher and I've more to grow." McGann will be included in Ireland's World Cup squad to be named tomorrow but despite an impressive recent record, knows she faces stiff competition from Béibhinn Parsons (above), who helped herself to a brace against the Canadians, as well as Amee-Leigh Costigan, an a number of other back-three options, to secure a starting spot. "I think if you look at the squad, we're probably at the most competitive that we've ever been, which is quite reflective of what a good place we're in," said the Railway Union back. "I think having the best players surrounding me is only going to drive you on more. "It has been really good to have Béibhinn back in and to have Amee-Leigh Costigan, to have her as well. "They're two massive players for our squad and two players that I strive to be more like. It makes it more competitive, but it makes it better as well. "If you take Leigh into consideration as well there's a healthy rivalry between the three of us." While the squad has been named internally, head coach Scott Bemand said there are always moving parts between the announcement and when the action starts, for Ireland, against Japan in two weeks' time. "The girls are always giving us something to think about," said Bemand. "It's a really competitive squad. "We spoke about two years ago when I first started and you're looking at competition for places across the group. And there was some but it wasn't particularly deep. "We'll name our squad outwardly on Monday and there'll be some really good players that don't make that squad. "That's the reality of competing, the reality of having a consistency of our game that you can keep getting your best performances out there."

Sterne has the edge after course record opening round in Scotland
South African Richard Sterne hit a course record five-under par 67 to take a one-shot lead after the opening round of the Nexo Championship at Trump International Golf Links in Aberdeenshire. Stern set the early pace at the Old Course after teeing off from the par-five 10th among the morning starters with a birdie on his first hole and another going into the turn, then picking up three more to sign a faultless card. Should Stern's opening round still stand as the record at the close of the week, he would earn $10,000 through a new initiative on the DP World Tour in partnership with title sponsor Nexo. Norwegian Andreas Halvorsen and South African Thomas Aiken - who set off together in the opening group - missed the chance to join Stern for a share of the lead, as both players bogeyed the last. Louis Albertse, having starting on the back nine, also sits one shot behind his compatriot Sterne at four under in a three-way tie for second place. England's John Parry, Jordan Smith, Matthew Baldwin, Joe Dean and Alex Fitzpatrick - who was briefly in the lead during the afternoon - are all in the mix at three under. Conor Purcell is in a tie for 43rd after a one-over 73. Sterne said: "When I was here on Tuesday, it was about double this wind and I lost about seven or eight balls. I wasn't off to the world's best start, but it is a lot calmer than it was then. I think Tuesday did me a bit of good. The course is quite tricky even though the wind is not as bad as it has been in the practice rounds. I played well. I hit the ball well, better than I have been for a while so that was quite key. I drove it well off the tees as well so that helped. It is a draining golf course, you have got to hit a lot of good iron shots. One day at a time and I am happy with today, so it is a good start for me." On the PGA Tour, Shane Lowry had a disappointing start to the FedEx St Jude Championship. The Offaly man slid to a three-over par round of 73 at TPC Southwind, fully 11 shots behind early first-round leader Akshay Bhatia, who opened with a sparkling 62 in Memphis. The tournament is the first of three FedExCup Playoffs events. The top 50 in the rankings will qualifying for the BMW Championship. Lowry entered the week ranked 17th so is assured of his place next week at Caves Valley Golf Club.
