As the summer sun turned up the heat, Hyderabadis got a taste of Italian sunshine with Stagione Della Calda — a seasonally inspired a la carte table-top experience at Ottimo, ITC Kohenur. A delightful fusion of tradition and innovation, the menu offered a refreshing culinary escape straight from the coasts of Italy. Curated by Chef Apar Chatterjee, the special offerings showcased seasonal ingredients, bold yet balanced flavours, and a strong commitment to authenticity.
Fresh, light & flavourful
'Italian cuisine in summer is all about freshness — ripe tomatoes, fragrant basil, crisp vegetables, and a touch of citrus. We've created a menu that celebrates these elements while keeping things light, colourful, and nourishing,' shares Chef Apar.
Our evening began with a refreshing surprise — Thé di Pomodoro, a light, crisp tomato tea. A modern twist on the traditional consommé, this elegant brew proved to be a perfect summer aperitif. 'Tomatoes are a staple ingredient during the summer months in Italy. We wanted to capture the essence of Italian summers through this tomato tea,' the chef explained.
Next came Burrata Con Pomodoro Antico E Peperoni Arrosto — fresh burrata cheese paired with heirloom tomatoes, arugula, roasted peppers, mint, and toasted pine nuts. It was a symphony of textures and flavours — creamy, crunchy, cool, and aromatic.
We then explored the vibrant Carpaccio di Gamberi — delicate slices of poached prawn wrapped around fresh ricotta, served in a pool of melon gazpacho. A dish that truly awakened our senses.

Here, she sits, heads thrown back, arms folded over her belly, cloth slipping from her shoulder, a mystic who appears intimately human, neither a penitent sinner nor a haloed saint. 'It depicts Mary Magdalene in a way that was never done before because she was usually depicted either in penitence or after redemption when she was ascending to the heavens. But at this moment, he depicts her in between a divine ecstasy and a very earthly ecstasy – her divine bliss was also felt physically so she sheds a small tear, she opens her mouth. This depiction had an enormous influence on art that followed,' explains Alfonso Tagliaferri, the consul general of Italy in Bengaluru. He, along with the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) , The Italian Cultural Centre at the Italian Embassy, Delhi, and The Kiran Nadar Museum of Art, with support from prominent business people Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Geetanjali Kirloskar, and Rezwan Razack, have brought this iconic Baroque painting to the city after its stint in Delhi last month. Opening to visitors today at the NGMA, the painting will be in the city until July 6. Immense care has been taken in how the painting is displayed, in an arched grey niche invoking Baroque architecture. The lighting, too, is deliberate yet simple, complementing Caravaggio's signature use of the chiaroscuro technique of using intense light and dark contrasts to create depth and drama. Tagliaferri explains, 'The illumination is only from the top left, all of Caravaggio's paintings are illuminated this way – it is a sort of divine light. We also ask visitors to look at the paintings slightly from the left to recreate exactly what he imagined.' Along with viewing the painting, visitors can learn more about the legendary Italian artist's life through an interactive VR set-up feturing material from Rome's Galleria Borghese.

The canonization will be led by Pope Leo XIV, the Church's first American pontiff, and marks his first saint-making ceremony. The event is expected to draw many young Catholics especially who have come to see Carlo as a relatable spiritual guide in the digital age. Along with Carlo, the Pope will also canonize Pier Giorgio Frassati, who died at the age of 24 in 1925. Frassati was an avid mountaineer and Third Order Dominican known for his charitable outreach. But behind the titles and ceremonies, who exactly was Carlo Acutis? Born on May 3, 1991, in London to Italian parents, Carlo moved to Milan as a child. He was described by teachers and friends as generous, tech-savvy, and spiritually wise beyond his years. While his peers were caught up in video games, Carlo also found time to volunteer with the homeless, tutor younger students, and assist immigrants and the elderly. At age 11, he began documenting Eucharistic miracles—events believed by the Church to involve the real presence of Jesus in the consecrated host—creating a website that would later become a worldwide exhibition translated into multiple languages. His efforts earned him the nickname 'God's influencer.' As a teenager, he used his computer-coding skills to create a website that catalogued Eucharistic miracles from around the world. His digital exhibition—featuring over 100 documented cases—has since traveled to thousands of parishes across five continents, earning him the nickname 'God's influencer.' 'He could have been just another kid obsessed with computers,' his mother, Antonia Salzano, told CNN, 'but instead he used that passion to talk about God and inspire others.' Carlo is also remembered for his profound quotes, including: 'All people are born as originals, but many die as photocopies.' Source: X Tragic turn of events Acutis' life took a tragic turn in October 2006, when he was diagnosed with acute leukemia. He died within days, at just 15 years old. Initially buried in Monza, Carlo's body was later moved to Assisi, the home of St. Francis, where it now lies on display in a glass tomb. Pilgrims, especially teenagers, regularly visit to pray and reflect. Carlo was beatified in 2020, after the Vatican recognized the healing of a Brazilian boy with a rare birth defect as his first miracle. A second miracle, involving the recovery of a Costa Rican girl from brain trauma, was approved in 2024, clearing the path to sainthood.
