"Karnataka Government Responsible": Union Minister On Bengaluru Deaths

The massive stampede at Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy stadium that cost 11 lives has sparked a political row, with the BJP accusing Karnataka's Congress government of mismanagement.
Criticising the arrangements in a post on X, Union minister Pralhad Joshi said, "It is heartbreaking to see such loss because of poor planning and crowd mismanagement".
The state government in Karnataka has "clearly failed in its responsibility," he said.
The tragedy, the minister said, was avoidable.
"Celebrations is one thing, but the State government without proper planning, without taking emergency services into confidence, took this urgent and unfortunate decision... The Government is responsible for this and accountability needs to be fixed," he added.

Eleven people died as frenzied celebrations started at the stadium when RCB won the IPL after 18 years. Altogether, 27 people were admitted to the hospital. The stampede had started during the felicitation of the team and visuals from the spot showed many to be injured.
Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has already apologised for overcrowding at the venue.
"We had arranged more than 5,000 personnel," he said, pointing out that "Lakhs of people came".
The government, he added, had even shortened the felicitation programme.
"The program ended within 10 minutes. We are trying to make everything normal... This is a young vibrant crowd, we can't use lathi," he added.

Positioning the initiative as part of a broader national effort, Saini praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership during the past 11 years, saying the BJP govt had fostered rapid development rooted in Indian heritage and aspirations for global leadership. Vyapam to police constable recruitment, it's endless series of scams: Patwari
Bhopal: Congress state unit president Jitu Patwari on Friday came down heavily on the BJP govt for the recently exposed police constable recruitment "scam". "MPPSC (Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission) has now become a corruption recruitment department," Patwari said. "Fake candidates were made to sit in the constable recruitment exam through solver gangs. So far, 16 FIRs have been registered, but no concrete action seems to have been taken. Earlier, the same pattern has been seen in the Patwari recruitment, primary teacher recruitment, and many other recruitment examinations," he said. He argued that lakhs of youth in the state dream of govt jobs and toil night and day for it. "But this govt is busy digging the grave of their dreams. I want to ask the govt - why are the children and youth being strangled? Will the hard work of the youth now be sacrificed to conspiracies?" Patwari asked. "From Vyapam to constable recruitment, it is an endless series of corruption. Till when will the MP govt put the future of the youth at stake?" he asked. Recalling the Vyapam recruitment scam, the Congress chief said, "Not only did a scam take place, but justice was murdered. More than 50 deaths took place, including students, journalists and officials associated with the scam. Even today, not a single accused has been punished. All have been acquitted. What kind of justice is this? Is this the Ram Rajya that the BJP talks about?" Patwari said the Congress would raise these questions on public forums. "This is not the time to sit quietly. We will ask questions and demand answers from the govt and society. When the daughters of the country are unsafe, when the future of the youth is in the dark, when the recruitment system is in the hands of mafias, then it is the responsibility of the opposition to raise its voice and get justice for the people." Besides, Patwari asked who is taking the salaries of the 50,000 missing govt employees over the past two decades. He claimed that 50,000 govt employees did not withdraw their salaries amounting to Rs 250 crore this year. "Fifty thousand employees of the state govt have gone missing. More than Rs 250 crore in salary is not being withdrawn by these employees. The govt has appointed a commission for this and asked to find the missing employees," Patwari said. "The state has 4.5 lakh employees, and the govt is trying to track 50,000 of them. This is a huge financial and administrative chaos. Now there is no one to take the salary, so in the last 22 to 25 years, who was taking this money of Rs 500 crore per year? It is an amount as big as Rs 12,500 crore that has been taken, but by whom." He said the state govt was continuously taking loans. "We have again taken a loan of Rs 450 crore. The people of the state need to awaken; they (BJP govt) have made govt employees disappear and have been taking their salaries for years. The BJP govt has made unique scams in the state – a Chambal scam, a snake bite scam, there are 42 different scams that have hit the state under BJP rule. In 10 years, Goa loses a fifth of its tree cover
Margao: The state has lost over a fifth or 22% of its tree cover in recent years. Centre's data shows that Goa's tree cover peaked at 334sqkm in 2010-11, but fell to 258sqkm by 2021-22 — a loss of 76sqkm over a decade. This represents a 22.8% drop from the peak coverage. According to the latest data released by the Union ministry of statistics and programme implementation in the 'EnviStats India 2025: Environment Statistics' report, Goa's tree cover peaked at 334sqkm in 2010-11, but declined to just 258sqkm by 2021-22 — a loss of 76sqkm over a decade. This represents a 22.8% reduction from the peak coverage. The data shows a significant initial recovery period from 2000 to 2010-11, when tree cover expanded from a mere 62sqkm to 334sqkm — a more than five-fold increase. However, this positive trend reversed sharply after 2010-11, with consistent year-on-year losses. The steepest decline occurred between 2015-16 and 2017-18, when tree cover dropped from 323sqkm to 272sqkm — a loss of 51sqkm in just two years. Experts said this period coincides with increased development pressures and infrastructure expansion across the state. The current tree cover of 258sqkm represents approximately 7% of Goa's total area of 3,702sqkm. Activists have already been calling for immediate action to reverse this trend and protect the remaining green cover in the state. The India State of Forest Report (ISFR) 2023 released by the Union environment ministry in Dec showed that from 2021 to 2023, Goa's total forest cover came down by 1.50sqkm or 150ha. Goa's total forest cover now stands at 2, loss of forest cover was higher in North Goa at 90ha, besides a loss of 60ha of forest cover in South Goa.
