AB de Villiers suggests that India use Jasprit Bumrah like Dale Steyn

Jasprit Bumrah is arguably the best bowler of the current generation. However, with his injury history, managing him has become one of the trickier parts for the Indian side. For the ongoing India vs England series, even before the team has reached the English shores, the Indian side has decided that the premium bowler will play in only three games out of five. However, former South African cricketer AB de Villiers suggested that India could use Bumrah the way South Africa used Dale Steyn. 'He is probably the top bowler in the world in all formats right now. So, it's very difficult to decide a way to rest him, but in my opinion, Test cricket is the ultimate form of the game. And this Test series probably would've been the one, in my opinion, to get him ready for all five Test matches. That's what we used to do with Dale (Steyn). Rest him in lesser important T20 and ODI series and get him ready for the big Test series against Australia, England, and India away from home… New Zealand to a certain extent, depending on the rankings at that time,' De Villiers said. 'So, I don't know if it was mismanagement or perhaps because he recently got back from injury, sort of saw the IPL as the warmup phase. Maybe, went to the surgeon, who let him know, 'You can't play the five Test matches.' So, I mean you got to respect that, and at the end of the day, it's up to Team India to sort of manage him well,' he added. India and England series, and that is all to do with Jasprit Bumrah. Will he be playing the 2nd Test match? How many Test matches will he be playing in this Test series? The very big Test series, and I say it like that because I don't know if it's a serious injury, and maybe because of the lack of workload coming into this Test series. They are scared of him getting a very bad injury and being out for a few years, or is it managing workload?''If it's the latter, I don't know if they've gone right about this workload management leading up to this huge five-Test match series. It doesn't get bigger than that, guys, except for maybe the WTC final,' he added.

Azharuddin Says India 'Too Much Dependent On Bumrah.. Should Play Kuldeep Yadav'

Last Updated: Mohammad Azharuddin cited India's reliance on Jasprit Bumrah for their loss to England and suggested including spinner Kuldeep Yadav. After India's five-wicket defeat to England in the first Test at Headingley, Leeds, former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin cited the team's excessive reliance on pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah as a crucial factor in the loss. Azharuddin emphasised the need for a more balanced bowling attack and recommended including spinner Kuldeep Yadav in the second Test starting Wednesday at Edgbaston in Birmingham, where the dry surface could benefit the left-arm wrist spinner. 'They are too much dependent on Bumrah. It's not that easy because you need more experienced bowlers, and they should play Kuldeep Yadav," Azharuddin was quoted as saying by PTI Videos from Hyderabad. Despite a strong start with a first-innings total of 471—thanks to centuries from Shubman Gill (147), Yashasvi Jaiswal (101), and Rishabh Pant (134)—India experienced a dramatic collapse, losing their last seven wickets for just 41 runs. This trend continued in the second innings as well. 'We lost because of batting collapse, but anyways now they have to pick the right players and bowling has to be perfect," Azhar noted. Azharuddin also defended debutant Test captain Shubman Gill, who faced scrutiny after the loss regarding his bowling changes during the game. 'This is his just first match as a captain, you just can't talk about captaincy, it's too early to talk about captaincy," he remarked, urging fans to give Gill time to grow into the role. 'We should give him a fair chance and he has just taken over, so you should give him a lot of time and support also. We cannot just complain and criticise players like that," he concluded. Jasprit Bumrah for the remainder of the Test series. Initially, it was decided that Bumrah would participate in only three of the five Tests in this ICC World Test Championship series to manage his back issue. According to Gambhir, India's narrow five-wicket loss to England in the series opener has not prompted any changes to this plan. 'For us, managing Bumrah's workload is crucial because there's a lot of cricket ahead and we know what he brings to the team," said Gambhir. 'Before this tour, it was agreed that he would play three Test matches, but we will monitor his condition. However, we haven't yet decided which other two Test matches he will play," he added.
