Hong Kong Airlines flight ends up facing other aircraft on Taiwan runway

A Hong Kong Airlines plane had a close encounter with another aircraft on the runway after landing at Taoyuan airport in Taiwan on Friday in what appears to have been a blunder by air traffic controllers.
The Hong Kong-based carrier later denied some Taiwanese media reports that its aircraft had landed on the wrong runway.
Hong Kong Airlines flight HX252 was carrying 161 passengers and seven crew members and left the city at about 9.15am for Taoyuan International Airport in Taiwan.
The aircraft was taxiing on the runway after landing at about 11.10am but encountered Hainan Airlines flight HU7987, with the two planes facing each other.
The Hong Kong aircraft, an Airbus A320, eventually had to be towed to the right parking space.
In a statement in the afternoon, Hong Kong Airlines said its flight was using the runway as instructed by Taiwanese air controllers.
'Hong Kong Airlines confirms that [Friday's] flight HX252 from Hong Kong to Taipei Taoyuan Airport was taxiing in accordance with the air control tower's instruction after landing, during which it was changed to use a tow truck to assist in towing the aircraft to the designated parking space following the air control tower's new instruction,' it said.

Hackers target Malaysia EV boom, cybersecurity flaws revealed

Hackers are increasingly targeting Malaysia 's growing automotive sector cybersecurity experts have warned in a new report that raises alarm over gaps in threat detection, including potential data theft via phones hooked to vehicular digital dashboards. A key automotive manufacturing hub in Southeast Asia, Malaysia has attracted around 26 billion ringgit (US$6.15 billion) in electric vehicle investments since 2018 from global marquee names including Tesla, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, BMW, Porsche, Audi, Stellantis and Dongfeng. But the industry's rapid shift towards software-dependent vehicles is creating new vulnerabilities ripe for exploitation by malicious actors, according to Singapore-based Ensign Infosecurity's 2025 report on the cyber threat landscape in Asia-Pacific? 'Malaysia's extensive network of automotive suppliers, manufacturers, and service providers further exposes organisations to vulnerabilities in the cyber supply chain,' Jeremy Moke, senior director of Ensign Infosecurity Malaysia, told This Week in Asia. One vulnerability involves attackers intercepting sensitive data from mobile devices connected to a compromised vehicle's infotainment systems through widely used platforms such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, according to Moke. 'The automotive and mobility sector is an emerging target sector in Malaysia,' Moke said. 'The proliferation of modern vehicles integrating complex computing, software, and the supporting infrastructure creates new points of vulnerability.' Ensign's report puts the automotive sector behind the public sector, telcos, hospitality and banks in the ranking of industries most vulnerable to cyberattacks.

Style Edit: BMW iX xDrive45 hits Hong Kong with its greener, more sophisticated ride

For anyone looking for a greener, more intelligent, more thoughtfully made vehicle, with zero compromise on performance, interior comfort or exterior dash: your prayers have been answered. A luxury electric SUV that ups the bar and breaks new ground on numerous fronts, the BMW iX xDrive45, newly introduced in Hong Kong, offers a more powerful engine, a more refined profile, a dramatically longer range and a more sophisticated line-up of technology than any other vehicle in its class. The power comes from drive units on both the front and rear axles, part of the brand's first chassis created specifically for electric vehicles. That incredible stamina comes from a 94.8kWh battery that offers 30 per cent more energy. The new BMW iX xDrive45 also brings the looks. Showing off minimalist lines, it features a redesigned BMW kidney grille at the front, frameless glass doors and body-coloured lower trim at the sides, and a seamless rear. High-spec speakers in the doors are sited next to controls for the locks and seat belt. Photo: Handout A similarly restrained aesthetic extends to the interior. An innovative layout, with the battery deep in the floor and the drive units on the axles, makes for a generous cabin, which also features seats with heat and massage functions. Seated behind the hexagonal steering wheel, drivers have dual information and control displays in reach, both with easy-to-use touch and voice control. Navigation is a cinch thanks to the BMW Head-Up Display with its Augmented View function, along with the BMW Maps system. When it comes to avoiding collisions, Driving Assistant technology enhances the car's safety. The seats include heating and massage functions. Photo: Handout The BMW iX xDrive45's sophistication also allows it to be kinder to the environment. For the first time, BMW has used silicon carbide semiconductor components to make it more efficient and it is also highly aerodynamic, with a svelte drag coefficient of just 0.25.
