Zulazren Zakariah, 31, did not enter a plea as the case falls under the High Court's jurisdiction.
He is accused of stabbing Muhammad Amirul Rashid Mohd Niza, 28, in the chest at a house in Taman Sri Pagi on August 11.
The charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code carries the death penalty or 30 to 40 years' jail with caning.
No bail was granted, and the case will be mentioned on October 17.
Deputy public prosecutor Nik Nur 'Aqilah Syarfa Nik Zaidi handled the prosecution, while Zulazren had no legal representation.
In a separate case, Magistrate Nurul Saqinah sentenced Mohd Khairol Mohd Abu to two years in jail for assaulting his wife.
The 40-year-old pleaded guilty to causing hurt at their Lenggeng home on June 6. - Bernama

Cops nab two mule account holders working with 'sextortion' syndicate
JOHOR BARU: Police have arrested two men believed to be mule account holders for a syndicate involved in sexual extortion cases. Johor police chief Comm Ab Rahaman Arsad said the suspects, aged 27 and 30 years old, were arrested in two separate raids around Johor Baru and Melaka on Aug 18. 'The arrests were the result of investigations following a police report lodged by a 23-year-old man who alleged that he had been lured into making a sexual video call with a woman he met on a dating app. 'The call was secretly recorded by the syndicate and the man was later threatened with exposure of the footage unless he paid up. 'Fearing exposure, the victim transferred RM3,600 to a bank account provided by the syndicate before lodging a police report on Jan 3 in Kluang,' he said in a statement Friday (Aug 22). Comm Ab Rahaman said initial investigations revealed that the syndicate, which has been active since December last year, had been using attractive women to lure victims into making explicit video calls before using the recordings to blackmail them for money in stages. 'Investigations showed the duo received between RM100 and RM200 from the syndicate for each transaction as payment for allowing their bank accounts to be used,' he added. He said the suspects are expected to be charged on Friday (Aug 22) under Section 424C(1) of the Penal Code for allowing their bank accounts to be used for illegal transactions. Comm Ab Rahaman also reminded the public not to lend or share their bank account information with third parties, warning that they could unknowingly become involved in criminal activities. He further advised the public not to fall prey to risky online dating applications that may be exploited as a medium for crime. Crowd of supporters swells as Dr Akmal expected to be charged in Bukit Mertajam
BUKIT MERTAJAM: The crowd of supporters at the Bukit Mertajam court complex has swelled as they gather in solidarity with Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh who will be charged with "public mischief". Supporters have lined Jalan Betek in Taman Bukit Kecil, where the Bukit Mertajam court is located. Earlier, Dr Muhamad Akmal turned up at 8.27am Friday (Aug 22) to cheers as he entered the courthouse to face charges under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code. He was greeted by his wife, mother, relatives and a team of lawyers representing him. Outside the court the group of over 150 supporters had to be controlled by police personnel. With the Jalur Gemilang and "Solidarity with Dr Akmal Saleh" banners in hand, the supporters have been gathering from as early as 7.15am. Those entering the courthouse have to been scanned by security personnel before being allowed into the courthouse. It was reported that the AGC had said they would charge Dr Muhamad Akmal over a Facebook post under the name "Akmal Saleh". Also to be charged are Muhammad Hilman Idham over a TikTok post under the " account, Siti Hajar Aflah Sharuddin over a statement on the "SHA_Abrienda" TikTok account and Chandrasegaran Subramaniam over a statement made on TikTok under the "cikguchandra3" account. The AGC said based on the evidence and statements obtained, charges would be filed against Dr Muhamad Akmal, Muhammad Hilman and Siti Hajar under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code. Meanwhile, it said Chandrasegaran would be charged under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1988. All charges will be filed in a Magistrate's Court. It added that the statements made by these individuals were found to have threatened public order or constituted improper use of network facilities or network services. Under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code, a person may be charged with making statements likely to cause, fear or alarm to the public. If convicted, a person can be punished with up to two years imprisonment, a fine, or both.

Akmal Saleh arrives in court ahead of public mischief charge
BUKIT MERTAJAM: Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh arrived at the magistrate's court here this morning in relation to a recent statement he made on Facebook, which allegedly caused public fear. The Merlimau assemblyman arrived at 8.25am to loud cheers from hundreds of Umno Youth members and supporters, who had gathered outside the court as early as 7am. Supporters held banners in solidarity with Dr Akmal and carried the Jalur Gemilang during a short march before his arrival. Akmal is expected to be charged under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code for making a statement likely to cause public fear or alarm. If convicted, the offence carries a penalty of up to two years' imprisonment, a fine, or both. On Tuesday, the Attorney-General's Chambers (A-GC) confirmed that four individuals, including Dr Akmal and Bersatu Youth chief Muhammad Hilman Idham, would be charged soon over statements deemed to threaten public order. In a statement, the A-GC said the decision to charge the two politicians followed a review of investigation papers submitted by police regarding statements made by Dr Akmal on his official Facebook page 'Akmal Saleh', and by Hilman on the TikTok account ' On Wednesday, Hilman, the Gombak Setia assemblyman, claimed trial to a charge of making a statement on the TikTok social media platform last month that allegedly incited public fear. On Aug 14, Dr Akmal led more than 300 Umno, Bersatu and Pas supporters on a 1.4km march carrying the Jalur Gemilang in what he described as a respect for the national flag. The gathering followed a recent controversy involving an upside-down Jalur Gemilang displayed at a hardware store in Kepala Batas. Last Saturday, Dr Akmal completed giving his statement at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters over the assembly in Kepala Batas. His lawyer, Aizat Azam, said Dr Akmal had fully cooperated and answered all of the approximately 80 questions posed by the investigating officer.
