Mistake #1: Skipping or Skimping on Sunscreen
This one tops the list for good reason. While many people remember to apply sunscreen at the beach, they often forget it during everyday activities – like walking the dog, sitting by a window, or driving. That quick lunch at the cute bistro outside may leave you more sunburned than you realized!
Another issue I commonly see is not applying enough sunscreen or missing crucial areas like the lips, ears, back of the neck, and scalp. These spots are easy to overlook but are highly prone to sunburn and long-term sun damage.
What to do instead:
Apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher every morning and reapply every two hours when outdoors or after swimming or sweating. Use two finger lengths for your face alone, and don't forget your neck, chest, hands, or any other areas exposed to sun.
For your scalp, try a spray sunscreen, especially along part lines and thinning areas. And of course, a hat with at least a 3-inch brim is the best at keeping the sun off your face, scalp, and neck. Don't forget to keep an SPF lip balm handy to reapply throughout the day for your lips.
Mistake #2: Forgetting Bug Protection
Long hikes and evening barbecues are summer staples, but they also come with uninvited guests: mosquitoes and ticks. Bug bites are more than annoying – they can lead to infections or transmit diseases.
What to do instead:
Use an EPA-approved insect repellent, ideally after applying sunscreen. Products containing DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus are effective and safe when used correctly. After spending time outdoors, especially in wooded or grassy areas, do a full-body tick check on yourself, your kids, and your pets.
Mistake #3: Using the Wrong Products
Your skin changes with the seasons, and summer's heat and humidity mean that rich, heavy creams may backfire. They can clog pores, trap sweat, and lead to breakouts or heat rash. Similarly, overloading your skin with too many active ingredients can increase sensitivity, especially when combined with sun exposure.

Opt for lightweight, calming, and protective products. Essentials include:
Vitamin C. It's a powerful antioxidant that helps defend against UV-related damage and evens skin tone.

These data from the pivotal Phase 3 ASCENT-04/KEYNOTE-D19 study will be presented today as a late-breaking oral presentation at the 2025 American Society of Clinical Oncology, ASCO, Annual Meeting and were selected for the official ASCO Press Program. A higher objective response rate was observed for the KEYTRUDA plus Trodelvy combination, including 13% and 8% with a complete response, respectively, in the KEYTRUDA plus Trodelvy and KEYTRUDA plus chemotherapy arms. Notably, a substantially longer duration of response was observed with KEYTRUDA plus Trodelvy. Encouraging trends in overall survival were also observed, but data are immature at the time of PFS primary analysis. Overall survival follow-up remains ongoing and will continue to be monitored as a key secondary endpoint.

MORGANFIELD, Ky. (WEHT) — City officials in Morganfield have a large task ahead of them — removing PFAS from the water. They say there is currently a plan in action which involves a project that will cost over $8 million dollars. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, PFAS are long lasting chemicals that break down slowly over time and can be found all across the country in fish, soil, air and water. 'They're part of our everyday life,' said David Tapp, the water treatment plant supervisor in Morganfield. 'They're in our car seats– anything you can buy that is stain resistant, water resistant or nonstick labels is generally coated in more of these chemicals. And they have a strong chemical bond. And they last forever in the environment.' Tapp says the levels of PFAS in the city are still considered 'safe,' but the city is ready to prevent it from reaching dangerous levels. 'You have a laundry list of everything from kidney cancer to birth defects to high cholesterol that it causes when it's ingested,' said Tapp. 'It's stuff that's been around for a while and we didn't realize how dangerous it was.' The project in motion involves constructing a new building — located right next to the plant that will have 'Granular-Activated Carbon' filters. We're told these filters will help remove the chemicals from the water. 'When you look at it under a microscope, it looks like lava rocks we use in a gas room.,' said Tapp. 'And you have these big metal tanks that's full of sand-looking stuff. It's real porous. And you pump water through it and the contaminants get stuck inside the pores. It's just a secondary filtering process.' Although the cost of the project is high, Tapp says the city is committed to putting residents first. 'We've secured funding for $7 million of that and we've applied for more grant funding through a couple different agencies to try to make up the difference to lessen the load on our customers and residents,' said Tapp. The building that will house the GAC filters is set to be completed in July 2027. Blood test-guided treatment cuts breast cancer risk

Treating breast cancer patients with AstraZeneca's experimental pill camizestrant at the first sign of resistance to standard therapies cut the risk of disease progression or death by half, a finding that could be practice changing, experts say. The results, presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology meeting in Chicago, mark the first use of a blood test called a liquid biopsy to indicate the need for a change in treatment in women with a common form of breast cancer, even before tumour growth can be detected on imaging. The early switch approach in women with hormone receptor-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer resulted in a 56 per cent reduction in the risk of disease progression or death, said Dr Eleonora Teplinsky, an oncologist at Valley-Mount Sinai Comprehensive Cancer Care and an ASCO breast cancer expert. "When patients progress on scans, we're already behind," Teplinsky said at a media briefing. She said an early switch approach, before disease progression, allows doctors "to essentially stay ahead of the curve." Camizestrant is not yet FDA-approved, but Teplinsky said she believes the data will likely result in a new treatment paradigm. The trial involved 3256 patients with advanced hormone receptor-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer, the most common type in which hormones such as oestrogen fuel cancer growth. These cancers lack high levels of HER2, another cancer driver. Women in the trial had at least six months of treatment with aromatase inhibitors that block hormones fueling the cancer, as well as targeted drugs called CDK4/6 inhibitors such as Novartis' Kisqali, Pfizer's Ibrance or Eli Lilly's Verzenio, which block an enzyme that fuels cancer growth. About 40 per cent of patients treated with aromatase inhibitors develop mutations in the oestrogen receptor 1 gene called ESR1 mutations, a sign of early drug resistance. Camizestrant and similar drugs called selective oestrogen receptor degraders, or SERDS, block oestrogen receptor signaling in cancer cells. In the trial, researchers used blood tests to identify 315 patients with signs of early drug resistance and then randomly assigned them to either switch to camizestrant plus the CDK4/6 inhibitor or continue with standard treatment plus a placebo. The researchers found that it took 16 months for the disease to progress in women who got camizestrant, compared with 9.2 months in those who continued on standard therapy, a statistically significant difference in a measure known as progression-free survival. No new side effects were reported and few patients from either group dropped out due to side effects. "This is going to be very impactful for our patients," said Dr Hope Rugo, head of breast medical oncology at City of Hope in Duarte, California. The question, she said, is how do doctors incorporate the testing into clinical practice.
