Romano: Guardiola keen on Rodrygo amid Madrid uncertainty
Manchester City are maintaining a watching brief on Rodrygo's future, with sources indicating that the player's representatives have not ruled out a move to the Etihad Stadium during the current transfer window.
The Brazilian winger, 24, is understood to be open to working under Pep Guardiola, should the opportunity arise. City's interest comes amid uncertainty over the futures of several attacking options, with the club preparing for the possibility of Savinho departing for Tottenham Hotspur.

Rodrygo's current contract with Real Madrid runs until 2028, yet his role at the Santiago Bernabéu has diminished. He found himself out of favour under Carlo Ancelotti in the latter stages of last season, and incoming head coach Xabi Alonso is not expected to make him a central figure in his plans.
Guardiola's Admiration for Rodrygo
Those close to the situation suggest Guardiola has long admired Rodrygo's technical qualities and tactical versatility. The City manager is believed to see him as an ideal fit for his fluid attacking system, combining intelligent movement with a proven record in high-pressure matches.
Rodrygo, for his part, is thought to be intrigued by the prospect of working under Guardiola, who is widely regarded as one of the most influential coaches in the modern game. This admiration is mutual, with City having followed his progress since his emergence in European football.
However, the Premier League champions are not alone in their interest. Both Liverpool and Arsenal are monitoring developments, with the player also holding respect for the philosophies of Arne Slot and Mikel Arteta.
Transfer Window Dynamics
Initial conversations have taken place between City and Rodrygo's representatives to gauge his openness to a move, as well as Real Madrid's willingness to negotiate. These talks are understood to be exploratory at this stage, with no formal bid submitted.
Madrid, while reluctant to weaken their squad, may consider offers if they receive a suitable fee. The club is also mindful of maintaining squad balance as Alonso shapes his first season in charge.
Rodrygo's Champions League pedigree, combined with his ability to operate across the front line, makes him a high-value target. His acquisition would add depth and flexibility to Guardiola's attacking options, particularly if Savinho's exit materialises.
Race for a Key Summer Target
The closing weeks of the transfer window could prove decisive. City's pursuit will depend not only on Madrid's stance but also on whether Liverpool and Arsenal decide to accelerate their own interest. With three elite clubs involved, the competition for his signature is expected to be fierce.
For now, City remain in the conversation – and crucially, Rodrygo's camp has left the door open. Whether that leads to formal negotiations could hinge on how aggressively their Premier League rivals move in the final stages of the summer market.

Bears LB Noah Sewell discussed goal-line stop vs. Dolphins
Early in Sunday's preseason matchup against the Miami Dolphins, Chicago Bears linebacker Noah Sewell, competing for a starting job, made a statement with his play. In the first quarter, as the Dolphins were threatening at the goal line and knocking on the door of scoring a touchdown, Sewell fired through the gap on fourth down and logged a tackle for loss, forcing a turnover on downs. Sewell's play kept the game scoreless early on and put an emphasis on his performance as he competes for the third linebacker spot alongside veterans T.J. Edwards and Tremaine Edmunds. Ending the game with six total tackles, Sewell's one tackle for loss came in one of the most crucial moments in the early stages of the game as he slammed the door on Miami's offense. Following the game, Sewell discussed his goal line stop and how the defense's mentality helped prepare him for that moment. "I knew what kind of situation we were in," Sewell said, via Bears on CHSN. "I was like somebody has to step up, why can't it be me? I just saw the gap open up and I shot my shot. After that play happened I just blacked out and celebrated, everyone was telling me good play, and then I remembered that it was a fourth down stop. Day in and day out, we attack the day the same. Physicality is highly preached in our defensive room so I just try to uphold that." Sewell's performance should give him an upper hand in the battle for the third linebacker spot early in preseason, and his development could be a fun surprise throughout this season. The club's dream target has always been Alexander Isak. This is the player Liverpool have identified as the perfect next step to lead Arne Slot's evolution at Anfield. At 25-years-old, Isak is in the prime of his life. He's a proven goal-scorer who can take Liverpool to an even higher level than last season. This is why Liverpool have been so keen on signing him. And it's also why Newcastle United have been so reluctant to sell him. They know the asset they are holding is a special one. However, it's becoming increasingly likely that they cannot hold on to him forever. 🔴 Shop the LFC 2025/26 adidas away range This has been made clear by The Athletic, who report that Isak has made his intentions clear to never play for Newcastle again, even if he stays at the club this summer. Isak has been training separately from the rest of his teammates on Tyneside and it's clear he wants the move to Liverpool. Newcastle remain reluctant to facilitate this. They have struggled to find replacements for the Swedish talisman and they are yet to accept his departure from the club. The more Isak pushes, the more that acceptance will come. It's already looking like an untenable situation for Newcastle. They simply cannot keep a player who is so dissatisfied with staying at the club.

Hereford continue perfect start with four-goal home victory
HEREFORD Pegasus maintained their perfect start to the Hellenic League Premier Division campaign following a 4-1 win over Lydney Town AFC on Monday night at the KGD Stadium. Pegasus are flying high under new manager Jamie Pitman and took their third win in as many league games. The hosts opened the scoring in the first minute when captain Jordan Williamson met a Harrison Summers cross from the left-hand side of the penalty area at the far post. The lead was doubled after 20 minutes when Summers curled home a low shot from the edge of the penalty area. Pegasus netted again three minutes after the interval when Jack Creswell slotted home from close-range after a good passage of play by the home team around the Lydney Town penalty area. The visitors pulled a goal back after 65 minutes when Kyle Gibbs netted courtesy of a low 20 yard drive. However, Pegasus re-established their three-goal advantage within two minutes of the restart when Summers netted his second goal of the evening with a 25-yard strike to secure all three points. Pegasus are not top due to both Droitwich Spa and Corsham Town having played an additional league match. It was a weekend to forget for Westfields who fell to a 4-0 defeat at Mangotsfield United. United opened the scoring in the fourth minute before scoring a second on 40 minutes, but also seeing a penalty saved before the break. The game then got away from Fields and two further goals came before the death. This weekend only Hereford Pegasus are in league action with a game at Highworth Town, as FA Cup fixtures are also taking place.
