Neil lost his grandfather when he was at the tender age of 5 so he has grown up listening to anecdotes from his father Neil Nitin about him. The Johnny Gaddar actor said that every time he would sit with his father they would go through his archives of photographs and memorabilia. Neil mentioned that he and his team have been writing the story for quite some time now.
In an interview with News 18, the actor said he is in talks with Parmanu director Abhishek Sharma to helm the film. 'We're just trying to figure out the right medium, the producers to collaborate with, the actors and the filmmakers to come onboard. I've had a word with Abhishek. In fact, he was the one who brought up the conversation. He's truly excited about the idea. I'm waiting for him to get free. I would love to listen to how he's envisioning it,' Neil said.
When asked whether he would play the role of his grandfather in the biopic, the actor said, "I don't think there can be a better Mukesh than me. Neil Nitin Mukesh is Mukesh. I know him better than anyone else. Dad also wants me to play my grandfather for emotional reasons. But the business of cinema is very different. As actors, we look for opportunities, but we're given them basis what others perceive of us. Your draw to the box office is important," he added.
Neil is currently seen in Hai Junoon! Dream. Dare. Dominate, a musical drama television series directed by Abhishek Sharma. Produced under Jio Creative Lab, it also stars Jacqueline Fernandez. The series premiered on 16 May 2025 on JioHotstar.

Hera Pheri 3 Update: What Really Went Down Between Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal

Last Updated: Hera Pheri 3 Controversy: Source close to Akshay Kumar claims actor didn't send legal notice first to Paresh Rawal. He only acted after the latter walked out of the film. The Hera Pheri franchise has long been synonymous with undisputed comedy and cult-favourite characters. So when Paresh Rawal, who immortalised the beloved Baburao Ganpatrao Apte, announced his exit from Hera Pheri 3 earlier this month, fans were shocked. It was soon reported that Akshay Kumar's banner, Cape of Good Films, had issued a legal notice to Rawal, seeking Rs 25 crore in damages. But News18 has now exclusively learnt that the first legal move didn't come from Akshay. Contrary to reports suggesting that Akshay Kumar initiated any action, a source close to the Sky Force actor told News18, 'Akshay didn't initiate anything. Paresh acted first and Akshay only responded after Paresh abruptly exited the project," the source said. The source elaborated that Akshay Kumar had purchased the rights to Hera Pheri 3 from producer Firoz A. Nadiadwala for a reported sum of Rs 10 crore. But crucially, this decision was taken only after Rawal had assured his commitment to the film. 'He had said yes. He had also recently wrapped up Bhoot Bungalow with Akshay. Everything was moving smoothly until 15–20 days ago," the source added. In fact, efforts were made to retain Rawal, who allegedly asked for a higher fee. 'Akshay even agreed to pay him three times his regular remuneration. And that was finalised. Still, Rawal suddenly backed out," the insider said. With shooting schedules locked, crews hired, and Rs 10 crore already paid for the film's rights, the source said Rawal's abrupt exit caused major disruptions, which forced Akshay to sue Rawal for Rs 25 crore in damages. Paresh Rawal, however, maintains that his decision was made professionally and without malice. In a post dated May 17 on X (formerly Twitter), he clarified, 'I wish to put it on record that my decision to step away from Hera Pheri 3 was not due to creative differences… I hold immense love, respect, and faith in Mr. Priyadarshan, the film director." Further reports from Bollywood Hungama suggest Rawal returned the Rs 11 lakh signing fee, including 15% interest and an additional sum. A source informed the portal, 'He returned the signing amount with interest and a bit more to compensate for stepping away." The same report claimed Rawal's total remuneration for Hera Pheri 3 was set at Rs 15 crore, with an unusual clause which stated that the remaining Rs 14.89 crore was to be paid one month post the film's release. With the release date projected as late as 2026 or 2027, Rawal was reportedly unwilling to wait, especially given the uncertainty around Bollywood box office trends. Suniel Shetty accepts he, Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal cannot be replaced in Hera Pheri, talks about Kartik Aaryan's casting: ‘He was never going to…'

At this point the drama around the making of Hera Pheri 3 seems to have a more complicated and engaging plot than the actual movie. Amid Paresh Rawal's exit and Akshay Kumar's legal onslaught on him, Suniel Shetty still remains positive that the movie cannot be made without him, Akshay and Rawal reprising their roles as Shyam, Raju and Babu Rao. He even commented on how Kartik Aaryan was considered for a role, but he clarified that the actor was never going to replace the main characters and that it was never even a part of the discussion. Shetty talked to Zoom about his career and the plans around Hera Pheri 3 while pointing out the importance the cast of the film holds when planning for a sequel. He said a few days before Paresh announced his exit from the film, 'A film becomes iconic when the audience remembers the characters. This is not Suniel, Akshay, and Paresh; it was Raju, Shyam, and Babu Rao. Nobody can replace those 3 characters, and even when Kartik was considered for the movie, he was never going to replace Raju; it was for a different role altogether.' ALSO READ: Paresh Rawal opens up on Akshay Kumar's lawsuit for exiting Hera Pheri 3: 'My lawyer has sent an appropriate response, all issues will be laid to rest' Shetty credited the film's success and its iconic status to the director and said, 'It was because of someone like Priyadarshan; while we were shooting the scene, he would cut it the moment he felt he got what he needed, not a line extra and not an emotion more. These are the directors that the current generation is not seeing or not getting a chance to work with.' Aaryan was considered for a role in the film, but just like Shetty, Rawal also clarified in a previous interview, that he was not there to replace Akshay for the role of Raju. Rawal told News18 that Kartik 'wasn't cut from the same cloth' as Raju and that he had a very different energy, which did not suit the character. While Akshay's part in the film looks to be solidified, the makers now have an even bigger problem on their hands with Rawal's exit. Since the actor announced his departure, the director and all his co-stars have come out in the media and admitted that they knew nothing about it. Akshay, who is also serving as a producer, decided to take the legal route and sue Rawal for damages worth Rs 25 crore. Since the lawsuit, Rawal has returned his signing bonus from the film, and even though Akshay finds himself in quite a conundrum, he has maintained a professional stance and even called out the media in a recent press conference for using the word 'foolish' to describe Rawal.
