Slender Man Killer Free From Mental Health Institute After Judge Signs Off on Conditional Release

Yahoo4 days ago
Former tween murderer Morgan Geyser is being released from the Winnebago Mental Health Institute in Oshkosh after being locked away for over 10 years for brutally knifing and nearly killing her pal to please the mythical internet character Slender Man.
Waukesha County Circuit Judge Scott Wagner signed off on the conditional release of the now 23-year-old, despite strong objections by the victim's parents to keep her committed, per the The Associated Press.
A team of three doctors supported Geyser being discharged, believing she's finally gotten a handle on her mental health, but the mother of victim Payton Leutner complained that the young woman's designated group home was only eight miles from their home.
The discharge plan was later revised by the state's Department of Health Services, paving the way for a supervised release that requires Geyser to wear a GPS monitor at all times.
'I do not have any comment at this time, and I appreciate the phone call though,' Payton's father, Joe Leutner, tells the National Enquirer.
As the Enquirer previously reported, twisted terrors Geyser and Anissa Weier were just 12 years old in 2014 when they lured classmate Payton into a wooded area near Waukesha and brutally stabbed her 19 times — to please the supernatural horror creature Slender Man, depicted in fictional tales as a tall, skinny humanoid with a featureless white head and face.
Payton was left for dead but miraculously survived by crawling out of the woods and flagging down a passing bicyclist.
Geyser and Weier were found not guilty of attempted homicide because of mental illness. Weier was released from the loony bin in 2021 and will be monitored under court supervision until she's 37.

Ex-Miami Heat employee accused of stealing jerseys worth millions — including LeBron James'

A former Miami Heat security officer has been accused in federal court of stealing millions of dollars worth of team memorabilia — including a game-worn LeBron James jersey from the 2013 NBA Finals — and selling them to online brokers. Appearing Wednesday at U.S. Superior Court for the Southern District of Florida, retired Miami police officer Marcus Thomas Perez pleaded not guilty to the felony charge of transporting and transferring stolen goods in interstate commerce. Perez, 62, faces up to 10 years in prison and a maximum fine of $250,000. His attorney, Robert Buschel, declined to comment when asked on Wednesday by The Times. While employed by the Heat, the press release states, Perez "was among a limited number of trusted individuals with access to a secured equipment room" where "hundreds of game-worn jerseys and other memorabilia" were being stored to be displayed at a future Heat museum. "During his employment, Perez accessed the equipment room multiple times to steal over 400 game-worn jerseys and other items, which he then sold to various online marketplaces," the press release states. "Over a three-year period, Perez sold over 100 stolen items for approximately $2 million and shipped them across state lines, often for prices well below their market value." Perez allegedly sold the jersey for around $100,000; it was sold in an online auction for $3.7 million in 2023. In executing a search warrant at Perez's home April 3, law enforcement "seized nearly 300 additional stolen game-worn jerseys and memorabilia," all of which the Heat confirmed had been stolen from their facility, according to the press release. 5 soldiers wounded by fellow soldier in shooting at Fort Stewart in Georgia; suspect in custody, officials say

The alleged shooter, identified as Sgt. Quornelius Radford, was quickly "subdued" by other soldiers, Brig. Gen. John Lubas told reporters. Five soldiers were shot and wounded on Wednesday at a U.S. Army base in Georgia by a fellow soldier in a workplace shooting that prompted a lockdown, officials there say. In a post on its Facebook page, Fort Stewart Hunter Army Airfield said the shooting occurred in the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team area shortly before 11 a.m. local time. The alleged shooter was identified as Quornelius Radford, a 28-year-old automated logistics sergeant assigned to the 2nd Brigade Team. At a press conference on Wednesday afternoon, Brig. Gen. John Lubas, commander of the 3rd Infantry Division, said Radford was quickly "subdued" by fellow soldiers before law enforcement arrived. "Soldiers in the area that witnessed the shooting immediately, and without hesitation tackled the soldier, subdued him, and allowed law enforcement to then take him into custody," Lubas said. "These soldiers without a doubt prevented further casualties." All five of the victims were transported to the hospital in stable condition, Lubas said. Three of the victims required surgery, and all are expected to recover. According to Lubas, the shooting occurred at Radford's place of work and involved his co-workers, but he would not speculate on a motive. Lubas said that Radford used a personal handgun, not a military-issued weapon, and that the incident remains under investigation. In an earlier alert announcing the lockdown, Fort Stewart said multiple 'casualties" had been reported in what was described as "an active shooter incident." Gates to the base were closed for several hours, and some schools in the area were briefly placed on lockdown. Fort Stewart, which is located about 40 miles southwest of Savannah, is home to about 10,000 people, including soldiers, family members and civilian employees, live there, according to its website. The FBI in Atlanta said on X that its office in Savannah was aware of the incident and "coordinating with Army Criminal Investigation Division for any assistance that might be needed." President Trump was briefed on the shooting, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said. Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp wrote on X that he was "in close contact with law enforcement on the ground," adding that his family was "saddened by today's tragedy." "We are keeping the victims, their families, and all those who answer the call to serve in our hearts and prayers, and we ask that Georgians everywhere do the same," Kemp said.
