Eurovision 2025 star forced to follow strict rules after joining cult
This year's host of the Eurovision Song Contest, Michelle Hunziker, may be a hugely successful actress, but her life was once very different after joining a strict cult
A huge Eurovision Song Contest 2025 star had a very dramatic life after joining a cult. Michelle Hunziker is one of the presenters for this year's competition, with the live final kicking off in just a matter of hours.
But while the 48-year-old is a hugely successful actress, her life is very different to how she once lived. T his year, Michelle will join Hazel Brugger and Sandra Struder as they host the 69th final of the song contest held in Basel, Switzerland. The Swiss trio will deliver the results of each country across the globe as the UK's act, Remember Monday, attempts to change the trajectory of the UK's scoring following a string of rough years.
While Michelle will no doubt be dressed in full glamour for the final, she once had to follow a string of very strict rules after marrying her first husband, Italian pop singer Eros. The pair tied the knot in 1998 and went on to welcome their daughter, Aurora, 28. Sadly, their relationship came to an end in 2002.
During her first marriage, Michelle joined a sect called Warriors of Light. Those in the sect had a strict lifestyle and had to follow a vegan diet. They also had to refrain from drinking alcohol, smoking, having sex or masturbating. Michelle was just 20 when she joined the Warriors of Light group after meeting a therapist named Clelia.
Michelle and Clelia became close after she helped her husband, Eros, overcome sickness after suffering from a sore throat. Speaking about her experience in her 2018 memoir, A Seemingly Perfect Life, Michelle wrote: "'Before the meetings we had to shower and put on white clothes.
"We always had to take off our shoes on the threshold. Then we had to wash our hands again and sit in circles on the sofas or cross-legged on the floor before starting the sessions of lying down or meditating." She went on to write: "According to Clelia, sexuality was an animalistic instinct and therefore dirty and low.
"We had to lift that instinct to a higher level, sublimate it, and turn it into inner energy." Just five years after joining, Michelle left the group at the age of 25. It was claimed in 2018 that Michelle blamed her divorce from Eros on the cult, which had allegedly attempted to convince her that he was a bad influence and had allegedly attempted to isolate her from her family.
Michelle will be joined on stage by former Eurovision entry Sandra Studer, who made her big break in 1991, performing under the stage name Sandra Simó. Her song Canzone Per Te landed her in fifth place overall and she went on to forge a successful media career. The mother-of-four became a popular presenter on German and Swiss TV, appearing on programmes like Takito and Swiss Award.
Sandra also kept up her singing, appearing in musicals like Sister Act and Spamalot. Sandra married Luka Müller in 1998 and the couple have four children together. She said she was "thrilled" to be back on the music competition as a host, posting a photo earlier this year showing her posing with her co-hosts Hazel and Michelle.
She wrote: "So thrilled! Thank you @eurovision for this incredible opportunity to be part of such a special journey. I can't wait to celebrate the ESC stage with all of you!" Swiss-American comedian, poet and presenter, Hazel completes the presenting trio. The mother-of-two was born in San Diego, California and has a Swiss father and German mother. The family made the move to Zurich, Switzerland and from 17, she started performing slam poetry.
The comedian found mainstream fame when she appeared on German satirical news programme heute-show, before going on to tour her stand-up show Tropical, which landed on Netflix in 2020. The description of her programme reads: "In this stand-up special, comedian Hazel Brugger offers her breezy takes on unruly geese, chatty gynaecologists, German bank loans and more."
The Eurovision Song Contest Grand Final airs at 8pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

Two Scottish restaurants named among Europe's best for authentic Neapolitan pizza
Scotland's pizza scene has earned global praise, with two favourites named among Europe's best in a top guide Scotland's thriving pizza scene has earned fresh international praise, with two of the public favourites in two Scottish cities named among Europe's top pizzerias in a prestigious new guide. Paesano, which now has three bustling venues across Glasgow, is one of only two Scottish spots featured in the newly released 50 Top Pizza list for 2025. The respected ranking, compiled annually by industry experts Barbara Guerra, Luciano Pignataro and Albert Sapere, highlights the best places to enjoy authentic pizza across the continent, excluding Italy, Glasgow Live reports. While no Scottish venue made the top 50 this year, Paesano and Edinburgh's Salerno were included in the wider 'excellent pizzerias' category, recognising outstanding quality and consistent craftsmanship. For Paesano, the accolade comes hot on the heels of opening a new southside location and earning recent praise from Big 7 Travel, further cementing its status as one of the country's most celebrated pizza destinations. According to 50 Top Pizza: 'The space is furnished in a post-industrial style with iron and wood, featuring a large bar counter that dominates the room. "However, the name and wood-fired oven bring us back to the typically Italian dimension where food is the result of artisanal craftsmanship with fresh products. 'The goal of this Scottish establishment is very clear: to be obsessed with Neapolitan pizza, with a dough that is left to rise for 24 hours in the Coccia style, and a traditional menu where the great Neapolitan classics are combined with local flavours and seasonality. "Perfect and efficient service, great atmosphere in the dining room, and an unmissable drink selection.' Edinburgh's Salerno was also singled out for praise, earning its place among Europe's finest pizza joints. The guide's reviewers noted: 'A pizzeria called Salerno that serves a perfect Neapolitan pizza: something that may have seemed strange until a few years ago, just as in the Campania city, a fantastic Mediterranean experience is also lived in the Scottish capital. 'The atmosphere is very beautiful and personalised with wicker baskets used as chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, a large counter with a visible oven. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! "The pizzas have a good leavening and in addition to the classics, many are 'reinforced' according to local tastes but always with Italian products: ham, salami, dairy products. 'The service is cheerful and youthful, with a menu of Italian wines, beers, and excellent cocktails that complete an unmissable offer of quality when in this magnificent city.' Explaining the expanded scope of this year's guide, the curators said: 'Because quality continues to grow nonstop, this year too we wanted to emphasise the growing value of the European evolution, by including the category 'excellent' to the guide. "About 150 pizzerias scattered around the Old Continent, where you can eat an excellent pizza, which are added to the 50 positions in the ranking.'

ITV Good Morning Britain viewers concerned for host Richard Madeley minutes into ITV show
Fans all said the same thing about Richard Madeley's appearance on Good Morning Britain. Good Morning Britain fans expressed their concerns over Richard Madeley 's appearance just minutes into the ITV show airing on Wednesday morning. On the programme Richard and his co-presenter Susanna Reid discussed the latest headlines from across the UK and around the world. Talk turned to the serious disorder in Ballymena, Northern Ireland, as well as the Chancellor Rachel Reeves' upcoming spending review. After Martin Lewis' winter fuel scam warnings on Tuesday, the pair also showed viewers what to do to prevent becoming a victim. However, viewers were left distracted just minutes into the show as Richard had a sore throat, with Susanna quickly sharing her "concern" for her co-star. "I'm a bit concerned we're going to lose you through the programme," Susanna said to Richard, who pointed to his throat and replied: "What, this thing?" He added: "I think it'll get stronger through the programme. That's my prediction." Richard then said that he had been given some honey and water, and assured viewers that he'd be feeling better tomorrow. "If it's annoying you, I'm really sorry. Tomorrow it'll be better," he said. After tuning into the programme, fans flocked to social media to share their concern for Richard, with many questioning why ITV bosses didn't just replace him for the day. "Why on earth have you let Richard take the chair today when he can hardly talk?" one person wrote. Another added: "Richard Madeley sounds like Daddy Pig this morning," while a third said: "Richard's ill, should have replaced him today." A fourth fan echoed the sentiment, saying: "Richard's voice is so hoarse." This is Richard's second health mishap this week as he revealed that he had sustained a double wrist fracture while in France over the weekend. Elsewhere on today's show, Richard and Susanna spoke to the UK's Eurovision entry, Remember Monday, who reflected on their time in Basel, Switzerland last month. The hosts also interviewed Reform UK's new chairman, David Bull, after he replaced Zia Yusuf, who quit the role last week following a clash with one of the party's MPs. ITV has been making significant reshuffling of its daytime TV line-up which will see GMB extended and Lorraine cut to half an hour. The 69-year-old presenter reportedly earns £300,000 per annum for his appearance on the breakfast programme. Richard seems to have successfully negotiated a new agreement with the broadcasters that will see him go part-time and drop down his salary. Nonetheless, Richard wasn't alone in facing potential dismissal as part of ITV's dramatic "bloodbath" shake-up of its daytime shows. Scots presenter Lorraine Kelly also found herself at risk and in it's been reported that she was "asked to retire" but rebuffed the idea.
