Irish pig prices remained unchanged last Friday, with producers reporting an average price of 228c/kg.
Some pig farmers secured up to 4c/kg above this average. Strong demand for pigs born and reared in Ireland is expected to continue into July.
The EU average for an R-grade carcass in week 24 stood at 212.9c/kg excluding Vat — unchanged from the previous week, but 2.4% higher than last month, and 3.4% lower than the same period last year. Ireland's pig price is currently 102% of the EU average, as reported to the EU Commission for the week commencing June 14.
Factory pig throughput in Irish export plants for the week ending June 22 was 67,077 head — up 2,315 on the previous week and 3,512 higher than the same week in 2024.
Weekly total pig throughput was 64,913, including 2,142 sows. Year-to-date throughput is running 3% ahead of 2024 levels, or 55,745 more pigs.
Live pig exports to Northern Ireland are up 32% year to date.
Grain prices dropped due to cheaper oil and increased global competition, as Middle East tensions eased and oil prices fell sharply to $64/barrel, supported by a stronger euro.
