Jamaat ties will backfire for UDF, says Vijayaraghavan
CPI(M) Politburo member A. Vijayaraghavan has said that by glorifying an organisation like the Jamaat-e-Islami, the United Democratic Front (UDF) leadership has ensured its own defeat.
Addressing the media at Nilambur on Tuesday (June 17), Mr. Vijayaraghavan described the Jamaat-e-Islami as an organisation that views the world solely through a religious lens, approaching all issues from a sectarian perspective.
'Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan's attempts to justify the Jamaat and the UDF connection with it will backfire in Nilambur,' he said. 'Mr. Satheesan has whitewashed an outfit that should not be encouraged,' he added. 'He has scored a self-goal.'
He accused the UDF of experimenting with generating votes through communal polarisation. 'But the Muslim community has rejected the UDF's association with the Jamaat-e-Islami. But the UDF is unable to realise this fact,' he said.
Mr. Vijayaraghavan said that the UDF had failed to grasp the people's demands and viewpoints. 'Attempts by the UDF to resort to old tactics have made them look ridiculous,' he added.
The CPI(M) leader blamed UDF candidate Aryadan Shoukath for failing to call on former DCC president V.V. Prakash's family during his campaign. He said the Congress had ignored Prakash's family.
Mr. Vijayaraghavan said P.V. Anvar, who quit his Assembly membership, necessitating the June 19 byelection in Nilambur, would not make any impact on the ballot.
He declined to provide a specific margin for the LDF's predicted victory, saying, 'I'm not a magician like Muthukad, I can't forecast a figure like he does. It will be a comfortable victory for LDF.'
LDF convener T.P. Ramakrishnan criticised Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi for making 'false statements' about the LDF government in the State. He said UDF leaders in the State had fed Ms. Gandhi with falsehoods.
'The government gave a pension in arrears because of the Central government's unsupportive role,' he said.
According to Mr. Ramakrishnan, it was the Congress government at the Centre which made the current wildlife laws. 'We want the laws to be changed in favour of the people. But the BJP government at the Centre is not allowing us,' he said, adding that the State government was not responsible for the increasing incidence of human-wildlife conflict.

Nilambur is the start of UDF's comeback: Oppn
Kozhikode: Opposition leader VD Satheesan said though LDF ran the most divisive and communal campaign in Kerala's political history, UDF candidate Aryadan Shoukath will win in Nilambur by over 15,000 votes. Satheesan, IUML national general secretary PK Kunhalikutty and KPCC chief Sunny Joseph said that the bypoll result will mark the beginning of a larger political turnaround in Kerala. "Not a single household escaped misgovernance and people are desperate to oust this govt. Their anger can push up our win margin," he added. Though CM Pinarayi Vijayan and LDF leaders tried to bring in brazen communal polarisation in state, it won't succeed in Nilambur. After failing to appease minorities during LS polls, CPM resorted to majority appeasement to placate the 'bosses in Delhi', he claimed. Before Piravom bypoll, Vijayan had commented on the 'holy hair' issue by saying that hair or nails just becomes waste when they are removed from the body. Would he dare say such things in Nilambur? he asked. "At CPM Malappuram conference in 2004, posters sported the images of Saddam Hussein, Yasser Arafat, Qazi Thangal and Ali Musaliyar though they were not linked to CPM. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Overheid geeft huiseigenaren geld om dak te isoleren Isolatie Experts Meer lezen Undo In Kollam, it used Sree Narayana Guru's photo and in Thiruvananthapuram Mannath Padmanabhan and Chattampi Swamikal pics were used. At Kottayam, in one place CPM used Mannath's pic while in another location it was Mother Teresa. CPM resorted to this tactic in Nilambur," said Satheesan. He said UDF raised real issues such as man-animal conflict, agrarian distress, issues related to pension schemes and healthcare and assured the people that these problems would cease when UDF assumed office in future. "If we want to ensure a massive victory in 2026, UDF must win big in Nilambur. This is not just a bypoll, it's the starting point of UDF's larger battle for Kerala," he added. When asked why LDF candidate M Swaraj visited the family of former DCC president VV Prakash, he said no candidate is barred from visiting homes. Prakash's wife, Smitha had clearly said that a congress flag was draped over her husband's body during his final journey and she will remain in the Congress for the rest of her life.

AIMPLB members demands withdrawal of Waqf Amendment Act 2025
I Suleiman Khan, assistant general secretary and State Convener of All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) and AIMPLB district convener Dr. Mohammed Asgar Chulbul criticised the Central Government for introducing the Waqf Amendment Act 2025, and said that they would continue to protest until the bill is repealed. Mr. Suleiman and Dr. Chulbul, addressing joint press persons in Kalaburagi city on Tuesday (June 17, 2025), alleged that the newly amended Waqf Act is aimed at weakening the foundations of Waqf governance and undermining the rights of Muslim community. They alleged that the government wants to control the Waqf properties by regulating their management and the power it gets through the new Act to determine whether the property belongs to Waqf or not. Opposing the inclusion of non-Muslim members on the Waqf Boards, Mr. Suleiman said that it would interfere with the Muslim community's right to manage its own affairs, given by the Constitution. Dr. Chulbul alleged that the Modi-led Government was targeting the Muslim community by misusing its majority to bring in discriminatory amendments to the Waqf Act forcibly against the will of the community. Furthermore, the condition requiring a Waqf (donor) to be a practicing Muslim for at least five years is not only against the Indian legal framework and constitutional Articles 14 and 26 but also conflicts with Islamic Sharia principles, he added. 'We wish to make it clear that these amendments not only violate the fundamental rights guaranteed under Articles 14, 15, 25, 26 and 29 of the Indian Constitution but also expose the government's malicious intent to gain total control over the administration of Waqf properties' Dr. Chulbul expressed. These new Waqf Amendment Act prevent the Muslim minority from freely managing their own religious endowments (Waqf). Articles 25 and 26 of the Indian Constitution guarantee the freedom of conscience and the right to profess, practice, and propagate religion, as well as the right to establish and manage religious and charitable institutions, but the newly enforced law deprives Muslim community of these fundamental rights. They urged the immediate intervention of the President of India to withdraw the Waqf Amendment Act 2025, citing it as undemocratic and anti-minority.

Calcutta HC decision on OBC list another blow to Mamata Banerjee's
New Delhi [India], June 17 (ANI): BJP leader Amit Malviya on Tuesday hailed the Calcutta High Court's decision that granted interim stay on the West Bengal Government's OBC list notification and said it is another blow to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's 'politics of appeasement'. The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday gave an interim stay on the West Bengal government's recently issued notifications on the OBC list till July 31. A division bench comprising Justice Tapabrata Chakraborty and Justice Rajasekhar Mantha passed the interim order while hearing petitions challenging the state's classification of communities under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category. Malviya, who is in-charge of BJP's National Information & Technology Dept and BJP's co-incharge of West Bengal, attacked the ruling Trinamool Congress government and said it made a desperate attempt to appease a vote bank and 'is a telling commentary on how far the TMC will go to cling to power'. He alleged that West Bengal Government's recent notifications attempted to reintroduce OBC reservations for several Muslim groups 'Another blow to Mamata Banerjee's politics of appeasement! The Calcutta High Court has stayed the West Bengal Government's recent notifications that attempted to reintroduce OBC reservations for several Muslim groups -- the very same classifications that were earlier struck down by the Court,' he said on a post on X. 'The Court's intervention came in response to writ petitions challenging this blatant overreach. The TMC government, in its brazen hurry, tried to sidestep the High Court's earlier judgment by conducting a dubious 'survey' and bypassing established legal procedure. This desperate attempt to appease a vote bank -- in violation of due process and constitutional norms -- is a telling commentary on how far the TMC will go to cling to power. But the judiciary has once again stood as a bulwark against such unlawful appeasement,' he added. Malviya also referred to his tweet made earlier this month in which he had accused the TMC government of appeasement politics. 'OBC = Other Backward Classes, but in West Bengal under Mamata Banerjee, it has become nothing more than a brazen attempt to appease Muslims, in gross violation of constitutional provisions. Mamata claimed in the Assembly: 'OBC list not based on religion. FACT CHECK: Her own government's data proves otherwise. Before 2010: OBC Classes - 66 Muslim - 11 | Non-Muslim - 55 Muslim Share - 20%. New Additions (2025): Part 1: 51 new classes - 46 Muslim (90%) Part 2: 25 new classes - 21 Muslim (84%). If this isn't religion-based appeasement, what is?' he said in a post on X. 'On June 3, 2025, WB government increased OBC reservation in State Services to 17% (from 7%) -- clearly to benefit these newly included Muslim groups. But here's the catch: On Dec 9, 2024, Hon'ble Supreme Court said -- Reservation can't be based on religion. Earlier, Calcutta HC had struck down this exact list for doing just that. The new list is nothing but a blatant contempt of court and an insult to the principles of social justice,' he added. Assembly polls will be held in West Bengal next year. (ANI)
