CPM Celebrates Karl Marx's 207th Birth Anniversary, Calls for United Struggles in His Path
Gadwal: The 207th birth anniversary of Karl Marx, the world-renowned economist, philosopher, political theorist, and revolutionary thinker, was celebrated with great reverence at the CPM District Office in Gadwal on Monday. The event was organized under the aegis of the Communist Party of India (Marxist).
Speaking on the occasion, CPM State Leader Kotam Raju and District Secretary A. Venkataswamy hailed Karl Marx as a towering intellectual who had a profound influence on the world in the past millennium. They described him as a global humanist whose philosophy remains relevant even today.
'Marx was the great visionary who showed humanity the path to liberation. He was the first to articulate the exploitative relationship between labor and capital and gave voice to the working class,' said Kotam Raju. He noted that Marx had foreseen the economic crises that the world is currently facing and proposed solutions long ago.
The leaders emphasized that Marx's seminal work Das Kapital serves as a guiding light for oppressed communities across the world. They criticized today's rulers for favoring capitalists with concessions while pushing workers and the general public into modern-day slavery.
Calling upon the youth to read and understand Marx's life and principles, the CPM leaders urged them to strive for the implementation of his philosophy. They also called on communist forces to unite and fight collectively in the path shown by Marx.
The event was attended by several key party members, including CPM State Leader Kotam Raju, District Secretary Venkataswamy, District Committee Members V.V. Narasimha, Singaraju Maddileti.

Chennai: With Tamil Nadu heading towards a high-stakes Assembly election in 2026, allies of the ruling DMK have begun to share their expectations for more seats. The Communist Party of India (Marxist), a long-time ally of the DMK, has openly demanded a greater share of seats this time. CPM's State Secretary P Shanmugam on Tuesday said that the party expects a better deal in 2026. In 2006, the CPM contested 13 seats within the DMK alliance and won 9 of them. In contrast, in the 2021 elections, the party was allotted only 6 seats and won 2. The demand comes at a time when new political alignments are in play. Kamal Haasan's Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM), which has joined the DMK alliance, is also expected to seek its share of constituencies. Adding to the intrigue, TVK Chief and actor Vijay has offered share in power with potential allies if his party forms the government. This is seen as a move to pursue partners from the DMK front, making seat-sharing talks even more crucial for the ruling coalition. Responding to the CPM's demand, a senior DMK leader said it was well within the ally's rights to ask for more seats. "These discussions and decisions are taken closer to elections. The leadership of both parties will sit together and decide", he added. The DMK-led alliance has won consecutive elections, winning the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the 2021 assembly polls, and most recently, sweeping the 2024 general election in Tamil Nadu. With the DMK wanting to fight in enough number of seats to secure a majority of its own in the 234 member Tamil Nadu assembly, observers feel such demands from allies could then make negotiations a tight rope walk for the DMK.

He said the number of seats CPM contested in 2021 was the 'lowest ever' allocation to the party in an alliance. He added that such compromises should not be repeated and the DMK leadership should accommodate the CPM's demands. The CPM leader also linked the demand to a resolution passed during the party's state conference, which called for contesting more seats and increasing the CPM's strength in the Assembly. He further urged the DMK government to expedite the implementation of its promises, particularly those concerning workers, farmers, and the middle class. Fulfilling these assurances, he said, is essential to secure a decisive victory for the DMK-led secular alliance in 2026 and prevent a resurgence of the AIADMK-BJP combine. It may be recalled that other DMK allies, including the Congress, VCK, and MDMK, have also expressed interest in contesting more seats in the upcoming polls.

CPI-M delegation visits Uri to support shelling-affected residents; slams govt for inadequate compensation, neglect
Uri (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], June 11 (ANI): A delegation of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), including the party's General Secretary MA Baby, visited Uri in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district to meet people affected by shelling by Pakistan. CPI-M General Secretary MA Baby expressed reservations over the compensation amount of Rs 1.3 lakh given to the affected residents. 'The situation here is highly distressing, as you would have seen with the drone and shelling attacks. The government has only given Rs 1.3 lakh as compensation, which these days cannot even buy a proper door and window. This is highly deplorable, and we strongly disagree with the government's attitude. The democratic process has been destroyed here. Omar Abdullah is the Chief Minister; this is a Union Territory, and Modi and Amit Shah are controlling everything. We heard that the review meeting conducted with the Lieutenant Governor excluded the Chief Minister,' he said. He further addressed the plight of the people affected by shelling, saying, 'An eight-member family has been given a small room--this attitude of the government needs to change. We, MPs from West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, and other corners of the state, came here to raise the plight of people in border areas. We demanded a special session to discuss it, but the Prime Minister refused. He didn't even attend the all-party meeting, only giving lectures here and there.' One of the delegates, CPI-M leader Mohamad Yousuf Tarigami, said, 'The people living in border villages should have access to bunkers for their safety. We have come here to express solidarity and tell them we stand with them. We assure them that we will be their voice in Parliament.' The visit followed shelling by Pakistan in the civilian areas of Jammu and Kashmir post Operation Sindoor, which was conducted on May 7. The operation was conducted in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, including a Nepalese national. India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 and struck nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied-Kashmir in response to a ghastly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam. After the attack, Pakistan retaliated with cross-border shelling across the Line of Control and Jammu and Kashmir as well as attempted drone attacks along the border regions, following which India launched a coordinated attack and damaged radar infrastructure, communication centres, and airfields across 11 airbases in Pakistan. After this, on May 10, an understanding regarding the cessation of hostilities between India and Pakistan was announced. (ANI)
