Israel designates Iran's central bank as ‘terror organisation'; minister labels it as ‘conduit' to fund terrorism
Israel-Iran conflict: Israel on Wednesday designated the central bank of Iran as a 'terror organisation' even as the two countries appeared to take hold of the ceasefire agreement with each other, a day after they signalled that the war had ended.
The Israeli defence minister said that the move was aimed at putting a halt to financing for Iran-backed militant groups.
Minister Israel Katz had 'signed a special order designating Iran's central bank, two additional Iranian banks (and) an Iranian armed forces-affiliated company... as terror organisations', a statement from his office noted.
'Part of Israel's broader campaign against Iran', the move aimed 'to target the heart of the Iranian regime's terror financing system, which funds, arms and directs terror throughout the Middle East,' it added.
In a post on X, Katz said that the central bank of Iran is a 'conduit' to funnel billions to terrorism.
'Iran's Central Bank is a conduit that funnels billions to murderous terrorism. We will hit the places that hurt the Ayatollah regime the most, which fund Hezbollah's terrorism, the Houthis, Shiite militias in Iraq, Hamas, and in Judea and Samaria through the Revolutionary Guards,' he said.
Iran and Israel agreed to a ceasefire on Tuesday, 24 June, ending 12 days of tit-for-tat strikes between the longtime foes.
The two sides have been locked in a shadow war for decades, with Israel battling several Iran-backed groups in the region, including Hamas in the Gaza Strip since October 2023.
Israel had said its bombing campaign, which began on 13 June, was aimed at preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon, an ambition Tehran has consistently denied.
'We have concluded a significant phase, but the campaign against Iran is not over. We are entering a new phase based on the achievements of the current one,' the head of Israel's military, Eyal Zamir, said in a statement Tuesday.
The fragile ceasefire between Israel and Iran appeared to be holding on Wednesday after a rocky start, giving rise to cautious hope that it could lead to a long-term peace agreement even as Tehran insists it will not give up its nuclear program.
The ceasefire took hold on Tuesday, the 12th day of the war between Israel and Iran, with each side initially accusing the other of violating it until the missiles, drones and bombs finally stopped.

Mossad chief issues video excerpt highlighting spy agency's role in Iran assassinations, sabotage cases
Jerusalem, June 25 (UNI) David Barnea, Chief of Israel's premier intelligence agency Mossad, issued a rare video excerpt of an address to his Mossad agents involved in several operations against Iran since June 13 and afterward, that led to various high-profile assassinations and sabotage cases. Seemingly taunting Tehran, he said that Israel will continue to operate inside Iran, telling his Mossad agents, "we will (continue to) be there, like we have been there", reports Jerusalem Post. Barnea said that the spy agencies' achievements against Iran were "unimaginable", with public details indicating they were involved in assassinating top Iranian military chiefs, nuclear scientists, blowing up nuclear facilities, drone facilities, and ballistic missiles facilities. He also openly acknowledged Mossad's many operations in Iran, revealing that hundreds of agents were stationed deep inside Iran during the height of Mossad operations, which threw the regime of the Islamic Republic into disarray, forcing it to play on the backfoot. He said that the Mossad had worked for months and years "to do all of the right actions to get to the right understood the fatefulness of the hour." Barnea also thanked IDF intelligence, the IDF Chief Lt.-Gen. Eyal Zamir and the CIA for their invaluable cooperation during the operation. He then turned to discuss the Gaza front, stressing that Mossad is committed to the returning all 50 of the hostages, 20 of whom remain alive. Highlighting its role in the conflict, Mossad revealed a rare video footage which showed its active collaboration with the Israeli Air Force in Tel Aviv's pre-emptive strike on Iran's ballistic missiles and air defences. Three videos show the Mossad targeting ballistic missile targets, air defence targets, and general preparations for the attacks (with the agents' faces covered up), reportedly using drones to target Iranian facilities.

After jumbo cut, RBI asks banks to lower rates
MUMBAI: An RBI report has called on lenders to reduce loan rates, saying financial conditions are conducive for transmitting the central bank's 50-basis-point (100bps = 1 percentage point) policy rate cut from June 6 to the credit market. In its state of the economy report for June, RBI noted that high-frequency indicators for May 2025 signal resilient economic activity across the industrial and services sectors. Agriculture also showed broad-based growth across major crops in 2024-25, while inflation remained below its target for the fourth consecutive month. While the domestic outlook remains optimistic, the global economic backdrop appears fragile. "The global economy is in a state of flux, reeling from the twin shocks of trade policy uncertainties and a spike in geopolitical tensions," the report said, citing market volatility following the Iran-Israel conflict. Reports from multilateral agencies such as the OECD and World Bank have flagged potential deterioration in medium-term global prospects amid rising protectionism. On the domestic front, the equity markets saw modest gains during May and June but experienced a sharp, short-lived dip before rebounding strongly on June 20, amid heightened tensions in West Asia. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Are you 18-79 with no funeral insurance? Looking ahead, the central bank said, "Forward-looking surveys of consumer sentiments show stable consumer confidence for the current period and improved optimism about the future." It also noted that state govts appear fiscally calibrated, planning to raise capital outlay to 3% of GDP in FY26, underlining a focus on quality expenditure. The IMD's forecast of above-normal southwest monsoon rainfall at 106% of the long-period average is expected to support rural consumption and agricultural output. The report said that India has posted the highest growth among major economies, with a sharp pickup in Q4 FY25 driven by strong fixed investment, high manufacturing capacity utilisation, and buoyant services growth supported by record hiring. However, concerns remain around slowing credit growth, tepid urban demand, rising unemployment, and weaker state finances. Trump Repeats Claim Of US "Obliterated" Iran Nuclear Sites
US President Donald Trump has once again asserted his claims on Washington "obliterating" Iranian nuclear sites during its targeted strikes on June 22, riding on Israel's assessment made by the Israel Atomic Energy Commission (IAEC) on those sites. In a post on Truth Social on Wednesday (local time), Trump noted the assessment made by IAEC on the Fordow nuclear site in Iran, where Israel's primary nuclear regulatory authority stated that the US' strike had "destroyed the site's critical infrastructure and rendered the enrichment facility inoperable." "Israel just stated that the Nuclear Sites were OBLITERATED! Thank you to our great B-2 pilots, and all others involved!" Trump wrote. Trump's announcement came in the wake of an assessment made by the IAEC, where they detailed the impact of the US strike on Fordow and other nuclear sites, noting that the strikes in Fordow had destroyed its "critical infrastructure" and made the enrichment facility "inoperable". In its statement, as announced by the Israeli Prime Minister's Office, IAEC also noted that the US strikes combined with Israel's attacks on the facilities had caused a major setback to Tehran's nuclear weapons development programme by "many years". "The devastating US strike on Fordow destroyed the site's critical infrastructure and rendered the enrichment facility inoperable. We assess that the American strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities, combined with Israeli strikes on other elements of Iran's military nuclear program, have set back Iran's ability to develop nuclear weapons by many years. The achievement can continue indefinitely if Iran does not get access to nuclear material," IAEC read. Trump's repeated remarks on the US destroying Iran's nuclear sites and causing a major setback to its nuclear development programme have gained much pace following a CNN finding that suggested that the strikes did not destroy nuclear sites in Iran as claimed by the US President or his administration. The findings, first reported by CNN, citing seven individuals briefed on the assessments, noted that the early evaluation from the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) suggested that the attacks only caused a temporary disruption, possibly setting Tehran's nuclear program back by a few months. CNN further reported that the findings based on a battle damage assessment by US Central Command contradict public claims made by US President Trump and Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, who asserted that the US "completely obliterated" Iran's nuclear capabilities. As per CNN, citing intelligence sources, the centrifuges in Iran's nuclear facilities remain mostly functional, and enriched uranium stockpiles were likely moved before the strikes. The conflict between Iran and Israel began on June 13 when Israel launched a large-scale airstrike targeting Iranian military and nuclear facilities under "Operation Rising Lion". Iran responded by launching "Operation True Promise 3", a campaign involving missile and drone attacks against Israel's infrastructure.
