Motorcyclist seriously injured in North York collision

A motorcyclist was taken to hospital with serious injuries late Saturday night following a collision in North York, officials say.
In a post to social media, Toronto police say the crash, involving a motorcycle and another vehicle, happened at around 11:18 p.m. near Yorkland Road and Sheppard Avenue East.
According to officials, the driver of the other vehicle remained at the scene, and no further injuries were reported.
Road closures were in effect for several hours, including the Highway 404 off-ramp to westbound traffic on Sheppard Avenue East, but all lanes have since reopened.
Police note the investigation is ongoing.

On June 12 just after 8:30 a.m., police said a man was seen pointing a handgun at passing cars near Burrows Avenue and McKenzie Street. He then ran inside a private residence in the 600 block of Alfred Avenue, according to police. Patrol officers along with the tactical support team and the remotely piloted aircraft systems unit found five people within the residence, who were safely arrested. A search warrant was executed, and with help from the firearms investigation and enforcement unit, a 12-gauge shotgun, a pellet gun, 'a large quantity of ammunition,' 'various firearms components,' and body armour were seized. Police said three of the arrested individuals were held in custody, who have all been charged with multiple firearms-related offences. A 35-year-old man and 36-year-old woman were also charged with firearms offences and were released on undertakings.

Police investigating suspicious deaths of 2 people in downtown Sherbrooke, Que.
Quebec provincial police are investigating the deaths of a man and a woman after they were found badly injured in downtown Sherbrooke, Que., in the early hours of Sunday. Local police were called to Ball Street around 2 a.m. by a passerby after they found a severely injured man, 38, outside. While police were erecting a perimeter around the site, they discovered a 32-year-old woman who was unconscious inside a residence. Both were transported to hospital where the woman was declared dead shortly after. The man succumbed to his injuries a few hours later. The investigation has been transferred to the provincial police force, the Sûreté du Québec (SQ). SQ spokesperson Louis-Philippe Ruel says they established what the relationship was between the two victims but would not share what they found.

The monument, which honours the six million Jewish people killed in the Holocaust, was defaced last week with red paint and the words 'Feed Me.' The event begins at 3 p.m. 'The desecration of the National Holocaust Monument was not just vandalism — it was an attack on the memory of six million Jews murdered in the Holocaust and on the values of decency and humanity we hold as Canadians," said Adam Silver, president and CEO of the Jewish Federation of Ottawa, in a press release. 'We must not stay silent. This vigil is about standing together to say clearly: hate has no place here.' The gathering comes amid a rise in antisemitism across Canada. According to a global task force against antisemitism, a report shows incidents have jumped more than 170 per cent in Canada since 2020. 'This vigil is a potent reminder that unchecked hatred and discrimination do not only affect the targeted community; they threaten the social fabric of our society; they are corrosive to our entire society,' said Annette Wildgoose, president of the National Holocaust Monument committee, in a press release. 'By all of us standing together at the National Holocaust Monument, we reaffirm our commitment to fighting against all forms of intolerance and antisemitism.'
