Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns are arguably the two best offensive players on the Knicks' current roster. In his first playoff run with the Knicks last season, Towns was determined to show the Knicks fans what he is capable of. But he feels all his efforts went to waste when Brunson stole the spotlight from him in Game 6 of the Pistons series.
In a social media clip that recently went viral from his interview with Carmelo Anthony on '7 PM in Brooklyn', Towns hilariously poked fun at Jalen Brunson for stealing his peak moment as a Knicks player. When addressing a Brunson performance that left him speechless in the season, Towns expressed his feelings about Brunson's game-winner vs. the Pistons in Game 6.
"I feel like Washington was one of those where he had 50 something, and we played them on a back-to-back, so that was on the first night he let it be known."
"That was one of them, but I remember when we closed out Detroit this year, Game 6," said Towns as the Pistons fans in the crowd started to murmur.
"That shot was crazy! That was just one of those moments where it's just like, you know, when you see him do the crossover, you know he's about to make it. So I was waiting to see what celly he was going to pull out with it."
"It was funny, though, because I laughed with him after the game, because I said it's so funny that the game before, I was hitting those shots. He comes back and he makes his game-winner look way better than mine."
"I'm like 'God damn JB! You couldn't let me have one moment? One clutch moment, my New York Knick moment.' I make that shot in Detroit, we're good, step back going right, he said, 'Hell nah.'"
Karl-Anthony Towns, in the Pistons series, was often playing like the best player on the floor. He averaged 19.7 points, 10.0 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in the series and took over in Games 3 and 4, dropping 31 points and 27 points respectively in each game, to lead the Knicks to a win away from home.
He hit a deep three in the clutch moment of Game 4 with less than a minute left on the clock to give the Knicks a crucial lead. He believes if Jalen Brunson hadn't hit the game-winner in Game 6, his peak Knicks moment would get the respect it deserves.
Jalen Brunson was also having a terrific first-round series against the Pistons. He averaged 31.5 points, 8.2 assists, and 4.0 rebounds in that series. Brunson's only bad game in the series was Game 5 at Madison Square Garden, where he only had 16 points. Other than that, he dropped at least 30 points in each game.
Therefore, after his struggle in Game 5, all eyes were on him, hoping for a bounce back, and indeed in Game 6, he dropped 40 points to send the Pistons home in the Playoffs. The final nail in the coffin often gets more attention than all the others. This story was originally reported by Fadeaway World on Aug 7, 2025, where it first appeared.

Boston Celtics guard Payton Pritchard scores 50 in Rose City Pro-Am

The NBA offseason may be the summer doldrums to fans and analysts of the league both, but for some players, it is high time to show off their scoring skills in offseason tourneys and runs. Among the most infamous in this regard is Boston Celtics guard Payton Pritchard, who has become such a prolific scorer in such summer events that he has picked up the sobriquet "Pro-Am P" for his frequent setting of scoring records in such events. Fresh on the heels of breaking his own scoring record of 61 points at the "Ball Don't Stop" Pro-Am with a 68-point outburst, Pritchard continued with his offseason scoring assault anew at the Rose City Pro-Am, where the University of Oregon alum put up an impressive 50 burger. It can be harder to find footage of Fast PP on the court doing his thing in such contexts, so the folks behind the "Home Team Hoops" YouTube channel put together a clip of his highlights from that half-centennial scoring night. Kevin Durant isn't letting trolls get to him ahead of Thunder banner night

Finally. It's been 10 years, bout time they win one lmaooo In many ways, we're still feeling the effects of Kevin Durant's decision to jump ship from the Oklahoma City Thunder to join the juggernaut Golden State Warriors during the summer of 2016. For one, the NBA's restrictive second-apron rules were created in large part to try to prevent an established great team like the Warriors from ever simply adding a superstar like Durant ever again. For the other, it took the Thunder over half a decade to recover in earnest from losing arguably the best player they've ever had. And after winning the 2025 NBA title — the first in franchise history — you could say their project went very well. That's what makes the Thunder's NBA opening night matchup against Durant's Houston Rockets so juicy. Even though he has two championships with the late 2010s Warriors, the prolific scorer is going to be in attendance for the banner night of the franchise that some people in hoops circles think he left "high and dry" for the "easy way out." Ever the #online maniac on X that he is, Durant couldn't help but talk trash to NBA fans who tried to troll him by reminding him he'll be present for the first-ever Thunder banner night ... as a member of the opposing team. Predictably, as a two-time NBA champion with a laundry list of impressive accomplishments, Durant was having none of it: When another fan tried to call Durant out for joking that it took too long for the Thunder to win a title after he left, his response was apt. It was just some light [expletive] talking. Nothing more. Durant has every right to feel this way. He's got his NBA championships. He's got his Olympic gold medals. He will finish as one of the NBA's all-time leading scorers. And he has generational wealth (and then some). He's an iconic, all-time player who has been there and done that. At this point, little snipes here and there about what he should and shouldn't be upset about will, understandably, never faze him. To be clear, the NBA almost certainly placed Durant and the ascending Rockets against the Thunder on opening night for a reason. It's a juicy matchup. It's a matchup between, in my estimation, two of the three biggest threats for the 2025-2026 NBA title. That Durant has to face down the first-ever reigning champion Thunder team probably played a part, too. But that doesn't mean games like this have any extra meaning for Durant anymore. He buried his Thunder demons as a member of the Warriors a long time ago.

Ichiro Suzuki says he never dreamt of having his number retired by the Mariners

SEATTLE (AP) — Ichiro Suzuki paused at times to collect his thoughts and placed his hand on his heart as he spoke thoughtfully about what it meant to have his No. 51 retired by the Seattle Mariners. Suzuki met with reporters before Seattle's game Sunday against the Tampa Bay Rays, the morning after his jersey was retired by the team. Inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame last month, Suzuki was touched by praise from Mariners manager Dan Wilson, a former teammate, and team chairman John Stanton, who announced that Suzuki will have his own statue at T-Mobile Park, joining broadcaster Dave Niehaus, Ken Griffey Jr. and Edgar Martinez. He said he never imagined his number would be enshrined at the ballpark. 'It's something that you couldn't even dream or think about, and it actually happened,' Suzuki said through a translator. Suzuki is the third Seattle player to have his number retired by the team, joining Griffey and Martinez. 'The view I had yesterday from the field, looking up at a full, full stand of Mariners fans, was amazing. At Cooperstown, there were a lot of fans, but it was kind of from a higher position looking down. This yesterday where we were looking up, and it was just a full stand of people, that was great,' Suzuki said Suzuki first joined the Mariners in 2001. That year he joined Fred Lynn (1975) as the only players to win Rookie of the Year and MVP in the same season. Over his 19-year career, Suzuki was a two-time AL batting champion and 10-time All-Star and Gold Glove winner, hitting .311 with 117 homers, 780 RBIs and 509 stolen bases with Seattle, the New York Yankees and Miami. Suzuki wound up with 3,089 hits over his career that included 14 total seasons with Seattle. After stints with the Yankees and Miami, he spent his final two seasons with the Mariners and retired in 2019. The Mariners will erect the statue of Suzuki at T-Mobile Park in 2026. It will feature his iconic batting stance pose. Suzuki still works for the Mariners, serving as a special assistant to Stanton. He often works out with players during pregame warmups, which he did Sunday. 'I think what's special about this team is you see a lot of teams where negativity kind of gets passed down, and it just kind of grows with a team. That's something that happens a lot and its easy for negativity to grow within a team,' Suzuki said. 'But this team, the positive is getting passed down from player to player, and it is growing and growing. ... It's the positive that is being passed around and you can just see it and feel it.' ___ AP MLB:
