Irish chart-toppers cancel major show over Palestinian flag ban
Irish indie-rock band Somebody's Child has announced the cancellation of their upcoming show in Leipzig, Germany, due to the venue forbidding a performance with a Palestinian flag on stage.
'Unfortunately, we are cancelling our Leipzig performance on 18th November,' the band said via Instagram.
'In light of what happened at recent shows in Germany regarding the display of a Palestinian flag on stage, it was brought to our attention that we might be faced with the same issue at our shows in Berlin and Leipzig,' their statement read.
Since the venues in both Berlin (Gretchen) and Leipzig (Naumanns) would not allow the group to display a Palestinian flag during their performances, Somebody's Child decided to move their Berlin show to a later date and cancel their Leipzig show entirely.
Their Berlin show will be held at a new venue, Hole44, on November 18, the date on which the Leipzig show was set to take place.
Somebody's Child said that being allowed to perform with a Palestinian flag on stage is 'a very basic requirement for us as musicians with a conscience.'
'It's the absolute least we can do in light of the ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people,' they further explained.
The group said they were 'unable to find another venue in Leipzig that would allow a Palestinian flag on stage.' They apologised to fans who had already bought a ticket, saying, 'We hope to see you at a show at some point.'
Refunds for tickets to the Leipzig show will be available at the point of purchase.
The announcement comes only a month after The Murder Capital cancelled a gig at Club Gretchen in Berlin on May 10, as they too were told they could not display a Palestinian flag. A second concert in Cologne on the following night was called off by the rock band for the same reason.

Love Island chaos as Irish star Megan rages at boys' secret kissing pact
Irish Love Island star Megan Forte Clarke was left fuming on tonight's show as tensions rise in the villa. Tensions are bubbling over as the boys create a secret plan which is later exposed, leaving the girls fuming. Tonight's episode will see the first challenge of the series with a game of slip and slide along a special Love Island-style shopping till. It sees the Islanders slide down a conveyor belt, swipe their card and pick up a receipt, which reveals a fact about an Islander of the opposite sex. They then have to decide who they think the fact is about and kiss their chosen person, before finding out if they got it right. But it is three of the boys, Harry, Dejon and Shea, who have actually been busy making a secret pact to completely ignore the receipt questions and just pick the girl that they secretly want to kiss, with the trio agreeing to back each other up with their choices. Shea chooses to kiss Megan as Tommy watches on but what girl does Harry secretly want to kiss? And will Dejon choose Meg or Malisha? And in true Love Island fashion, things do not stay secret for long, as later that evening Tommy has some suspicions before Harry owns up. He says: "We were all like, boys let's just forget the question and just say who you wanna kiss, so Shea was like I wanna kiss Megan, when he read it out, me and D said, 'That's Megan!'" A stunned Tommy replies: 'Oh my god, f*****g hell! What do you think will happen tonight then? That will all come out?" And of course the girls soon find out as Tommy tells partner Megan what he knows before she replies: "We f*****g knew it!' Speaking about Shea, Tommy says: "I think that's out of order. I don't like confrontation, but I will stand up for what's right." And as word of the boys' plan spreads around the Villa, the penny is starting to drop with some of the Islanders about the choices that were being made in the challenge. Tonight's episode will see Tommy pull Shea about his decision. The challenge will also see the girls learn some interesting facts about the boys. Meanwhile Meg and Malisha will also try to come to a truce after going head to head over Dejon, and Toni has some questions for Conor as she wants to know who he is looking for. Things get heated again between Meg and Malisha in the garden and Alima comforts Malisha in the dressing room. After hearing her side, Alima has some thoughts on the situation, heading out to the kitchen to tell Meg and the group: 'I'm not gonna lie, that wasn't nice to see both of you, all the shouting…let's be nice to people.' Meg says: 'I said [to Malisha] I don't want you to feel like this, you're now mugging me off and being disrespectful - I don't want to argue with her.' Shakira adds: 'I don't think she [Malisha] was being disrespectful going to the Hideaway.' Meg replies: 'That's your opinion, not mine.' Meanwhile that evening, Toni and Conor debrief about where they stand and more importantly where he stands with new bombshell Emily. Toni tells him: "I think you know I have eyes for you, out of the three girls that came in last night, she's [Emily] obviously a sweetheart. I think her and I are very different. Are you looking for a sweet, mild girl or someone like me?' The next day, Meg is keen to bury the hatchet and pulls Malisha for another chat. Meg adds: 'Third time lucky, we're gonna get it right this time…' Love Island continues on Virgin Media Two tonight at 9pm.
