Because apparently high-end GPUs weren't already expensive or scarce enough, Asus has partnered with Bethesda and ID Software to create a Doom: The Dark Ages-inspired RTX 5080 ROG Astral graphics card. Asus revealed in a press release that the new card (officially known as the ROG Astral RTX 5080 Doom Edition) will be a limited edition GPU boasting a color scheme matching the game's dark theme, paired with exclusive game merchandise.
The graphics card itself is a twin of the vanilla ROG Astral RTX 5080, sporting a huge 3.8-slot form factor with four fans, three on the shroud and one located on the backplate. The Doom Edition variant swaps the Astral's normal ROG colors for a dark green and gold scheme featuring Doom graphics on the backplate and Doom-inspired logos all over the card.

One interesting addition is the design element of the fans. The central and left fans on the shroud keep their traditional black color, but the right and rear fans are green to mimic the Shield Saw, a new weapon in Doom: The Dark Ages. Similarly, the heatsink has been colored gold to align with the card's Doom aesthetic.
Asus has paired the limited-edition card with an exclusive T-shirt, mouse pad, yellow key card, and an ROG-exclusive Doom Slayer Legionary in-game skin. Optionally, buyers can also purchase the Premium Edition of the game along with the graphics card.
Spec-wise, the ROG Astral RTX 5080 Doom Edition sports an RTX 5080 GPU, with 16GB of GDDR7 memory, and a default boost clock of 2,760MHz, with an OC mode that goes up to 2,790MHz. The card is cooled with a "patented" vapor chamber heatsink, milled heatspreader, and phase-change thermal pad (instead of thermal paste).
The Doom-inspired graphics card will be sold exclusively at the Bethesda Gear Store, where, interestingly, a placeholder / joke price has it listed in search results as costing $666,666.66.
Though actual pricing and availability were not disclosed, we can expect pricing to be significantly higher than the RTX 5080's vanilla MSRP due to its limited availability (not to mention the ROG Astral is Asus's flagship variant of the RTX 5080). Availability will possibly start when Doom: The Dark Ages releases on May 14.Follow Tom's Hardware on Google News to get our up-to-date news, analysis, and reviews in your feeds. What is a GPT?

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. The introduction of generative pre-trained transformers (GPTs) marked a significant milestone in the adoption and utility of artificial intelligence in the real world. The technology was created by the then fledgling research lab OpenAI, based on previous research done on transformers in 2017 by Google Labs. It was Google's white paper "Attention is all you need", which laid the foundation for OpenAI's work on the GPT concept. As seen in > Model matchup surprise > ChatGPT announcements > Goodbye ChatGPT-4 > Why ChatGPT 4.1 is a big deal Transformers provided AI scientists with an innovative method of taking user input, and converting it to something that could be used by the neural network using an attention mechanism to identify important parts of the data. This architecture also allows for the information to be processed in parallel rather than sequentially as with traditional neural networks. This provides a huge and critical improvement in speed and efficiency of AI processing. OpenAI's GPT architecture was released in 2018 with GPT-1. By significantly refining Google's transformer ideas, the GPT model demonstrated that large-scale unsupervised learning could produce an extremely capable text generation model which operated at vastly improved speeds. GPT's also uprated the neural networks' understanding of context which improved accuracy and provided human-like coherence. Before GPT, AI language models relied on rule-based systems or simpler neural networks like recurrent neural networks (RNNs), which struggled with long-range dependencies and contextual understanding. The story of the GPT architecture is one of constant incremental improvements ever year since launch. GPT-2 in 2019 introduced a model with 1.5 billion parameters, which started to provide the kind of fluent text responses where AI users are now familiar with. However it was the introduction of GPT-3 (and subsequently 3.5) in 2020 which was the real game-changer. It featured 175 billion parameters, and suddenly a single AI model could cope with a vast array of applications from creative writing to code generation. GPT technology went viral in November of 2022 with the launch of ChatGPT. Based on GPT 3.5 and later GPT-4, this astonishing technology instantly propelled AI into public consciousness in a massive way. Unlike previous GPT models, ChatGPT was fine-tuned for conversational interaction. Suddenly business users and ordinary citizens could use an AI for things like customer service, online tutoring or technical support. So powerful was this idea, that the product attracted a 100 million users in a mere 60 days. Today GPT is one of the top two AI system architectures in the world (along with Google's Gemini). Recent improvements have included multimodal capabilities, i.e. the ability to process not just text but also images, video and audio. OpenAI has also updated the platform to improve pattern recognition and enhance unsupervised learning, as well as adding agentic functionality via semi-autonomous tasks. On the commercial front, GPT powered applications are now deeply embedded in many different business and industry enterprises. Salesforce has Einstein GPT to deliver CRM functionality, Microsoft's Copilot is an AI assisted coding tool which incorporates Office suite automation, and there are multiple healthcare AI models which are fine-tuned to provide GPT powered diagnosis, patient interaction and medical research. At the time of writing the only two significant rivals to the GPT architecture are Google's Gemini system and the work being done by DeepSeek, Anthropic's Claude and Meta with its Llama models. The latter products also use transformers, but in a subtly different way to GPT. Google however is a dark horse in the race, as it's becoming clear that the Gemini platform has the potential to dominate the global AI arena within a few short years. Despite the competition, OpenAI remains firmly at the top of many leaderboards in terms of AI performance and benchmarks. Its growing range of reasoning models such as o1 and o3, and its superlative image generation product, GPT Image-1 which uses the technology, continue to demonstrate that there is significant life left in the architecture, waiting to be exploited.

WWE's Jacob Fatu sends heartfelt tribute to R-Truth after release

The post WWE's Jacob Fatu sends heartfelt tribute to R-Truth after release appeared first on ClutchPoints. The news that WWE R-Truth was being released has impacted many, including United States Champion Jacob Fatu, who sent the 54-time Speed Champion a message on social media. Advertisement While he portrays a heel character on TV, Fatu has kind words for R-Truth. He posted his message on X, formerly Twitter, and thanked him for what he had done. 'This is the life right here[,] Use! We do this so our kids don't have to see that other life we come from[,] dawwg!!' his post began. 'God [first], family, laughter, game, love[,] & knowledge always when it came to you! Love & respect[,] Big Bruh & THANK YOU [praying hands and the hundred points emojis].' It is nice to see WWE Superstars rally around R-Truth after he was released, including Jacob Fatu. He clearly made an impact on the locker room, and now they are showing their appreciation. The WWE Universe chanted, 'We want Truth!' throughout the June 2, 2025, edition of Monday Night RAW as well. Why did WWE release R-Truth? Joe Camporeale-Imagn Images. Why WWE released R-Truth is unclear. A wave of releases has occurred over the last couple of days. They also decided not to renew Carlito and Sarah Logan's contracts. Advertisement Releases happen every few months in WWE. In May 2025, Dakota Kai, Cora Jade, and Braun Strowman headlined the last wave of releases. R-Truth was an interesting decision, considering his place in the company. While he is not a main event talent, he has been a staple of WWE TV. He plays a comedic role that frequently gets other wrestlers to break character. He also had one of the top-selling T-shirts on the WWE Shop before his exit. His last feud was with his 'childhood hero,' John Cena. They had a match at the May 2025 edition of Saturday Night's Main Event. Cena is now a heel, so R-Truth came out in Cena-inspired ring gear. His T-shirt parodied Cena's, and R-Truth did his signature run to the ring. Advertisement However, R-Truth lost in a matter of minutes to Cena. It wasn't for the Undisputed WWE Championship, but R-Truth would not have walked out with it either way. Whether or not he ever returns to WWE remains unclear. The fans want him back, and we will have to wait and see if WWE listens to their chants.

"It's 5GB of pure bloatware": Apple Intelligence unlikely to win over Mac users at WWDC — Here's why

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Apple's annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) takes place on Monday, June 9, and the company is set to spotlight its biggest software updates of the year — but will any of its new Apple Intelligence features win over frustrated Mac users? Apple Intelligence may have been the star of last year's show, but the platform, pitched as "AI for the rest of us," has mostly failed to capture the awe of Mac, iPhone, or iPad users, with the one update everyone really wants to see is nowhere in sight. There's no doubt that Apple will liberally flaunt the term AI during this year's WWDC, but a claimed lack of any killer AI features to show could highlight how far ahead Apple's competition is. However, to some, that's a good thing. Take a look online and you'll see many Mac users souring on AI, and until Apple is ready to change their minds with something truly groundbreaking, it might be best to keep it out of the limelight a little longer. See also: Best Apple deals in June 2025 With WWDC 2025 now just a week away, we're getting our last, and arguably most exciting, wave of rumors about what to expect. The highlight, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, will be a major rebrand of Apple's operating systems along with the biggest visual overhaul since iOS 7. For Mac users, that means the next OS update will be macOS 26, which will likely feature tweaked app icons and potentially changes to the overall UI, like more transparent elements. Rumors indicate that Apple is taking a lot of inspiration from visionOS for this sweeping visual overhaul across its platforms, giving a rough idea of what to expect. What we're not expecting to see, however, is any major Apple Intelligence developments. Apple is expected to debut an AI battery optimization tool, which sounds useful, and potentially some other minor updates, but the big, large language model (LLM) Siri update we've all been waiting for is unlikely to make an appearance at WWDC. That big Siri update is the AI feature its users really need. While it's disappointing we have to keep waiting for it, a lack of focus on AI in the meantime might actually be a good thing for Apple, judging by a cold response to AI from many Mac users. Apple was undoubtedly late to the game in consumer AI, falling short of the innovations Google, Meta, and OpenAI have been announcing over recent years. OpenAI is even partnering with former Apple design chief Jony Ive to develop its own in-house AI device. Considering all that, one might think Apple is in hot water, dropping the ball on AI like it has. However, that's assuming Apple users actually want a boatload of AI features on their devices, which might not be the case. For instance, a user in one Reddit thread referred to Apple Intelligence as "5GB of pure bloatware," complaining that trying to disable or remove the feature can lead to bugs. A user in another thread expressed frustration about not being able to completely remove Apple Intelligence, commenting, "Some of us don't like a service shoved down our throats we never asked for, and don't need. Sure, it can be turned off, but it should be optional to be installed to begin with. I'd like to use those few gigs of storage." One user even described Apple's AI as "all hype, no value." Comment from r/MacOS Even users who don't outright dislike Apple Intelligence see little use in it, like one commenter who said: "I pretty much never use writing tools, even before they were integrated, so that's been barely used. Sucks that what the majority of Apple AI is." Another user pointed out the core of the issue: "Siri still seems dumb as a rock." All of this effectively amounts to a lack of enthusiasm for AI in general, at least among Mac users. It makes me wonder, would Apple be better off differentiating itself by backing off on AI, at least until the new-and-improved Siri is ready? So far, Apple Intelligence seems to be mimicking competitors' AI offerings, only with fewer features and years behind. That strategy clearly isn't winning over Mac users, though, who seem to be really looking for practical AI tools and a Siri update, not gimmicks like AI-generated emojis. Instead of trying to convince us it's an AI brand now, maybe Apple could woo fans by showing it's focusing on launching AI tools that prioritize genuine usefulness and user privacy.
