The Islanders posted the details of the trade on their team website. "The New York Islanders have acquired forward Calum Ritchie, a first-round selection in the 2026 or 2027 NHL Draft, a conditional third-round pick in the 2028 NHL Draft, and defenseman Oliver Kylington from the Colorado Avalanche, in exchange for Brock Nelson and William Dufour."
The move gives the Avs a shot of extra offensive firepower and responsibility in the defensive end as they get closer to the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

"I think Nashville is almost a shoo-in to get an expansion team at this point," Passan told the show. A move there would give MLB an expansion team in the Eastern part of the country, and there is also a city out West that has reportedly impressed MLB as well. "You've also got Salt Lake City who has really impressed the people at MLB. They've got ownership in place, and they've got a stadium plan in place," Passan said. Teams added in those two cities would further help set up the idea of the geographical realignment that was mentioned Sunday night by MLB commissioner Rob Manfred. Nashville makes the most sense from a popularity standpoint, as it has been home to the NHL's Predators since 1998, and an MLB team would only shoot up the city's popularity. As for Salt Lake City, an MLB team would give Utah its third professional sports team along with the NBA's Utah Jazz and NHL's Utah Mammoth. Other cities that have been discussed as possible locations are San Antonio, Charlotte and Montreal. As of now, though, it appears that Nashville and Salt Lake City are the frontrunners whenever the time comes for expansion. Kraken Hire Ryan Jankowski As Assistant General Manager
The Seattle Kraken have hired Ryan Jankowski to be an assistant general manager, becoming the third assistant GM in the organization. Jankowski is joined by Ricky Olczyk and Alexandra Mandrycky as assistant GMs working under GM Jason Boterill. Previously, Jankowski was working as the Director of Amateur Scouting and Associate Director for the Arizona Coyotes and the Utah Mammoth, but he has plenty of experience working in the NHL and in a front office. "We're excited to bring someone of Ryan's stature to our organization," said Kraken GM Botterill. "Ryan has a wealth of experience, both in the NHL and internationally. His expertise in player evaluation and player development will be a big plus for our group." Prior to his time with the Coyotes and Mammoth organization, the 51-year-old worked with the Buffalo Sabres as the Director of Amateur Scouting, the Montreal Canadiens as a scout and the New York Islanders as a scout and assistant GM. Jankowski was also heavily involved with Team Canada from 2013-17, as the Director of Player Personnel and Head Scout. "I'm thrilled to join the Kraken as an assistant GM," said Jankowski. "After talking with Jason and the leadership team, I knew this would be a great fit. This team has tremendous potential and an exciting future, which I'm happy to be a part of. I'm excited to get started in Seattle." Jankowski is another addition to the Kraken's front office, which has endured plenty of change over this off-season.

Major League Baseball Rob Manfred Hints at MLB Realignment if it Undergoes Expansion Published Aug. 18, 2025 1:18 p.m. ET share facebook x reddit link The American and National Leagues might soon be gone as we know them. MLB commissioner Rob Manfred said that if expansion takes place in the near future, the league will likely look to realign teams based on geography. "I think [expansion and realignment] are related, in my mind," Manfred said Sunday on ESPN's broadcast of the Little League Classic. "I think if we expand, it provides us with an opportunity to geographically realign. I think we could save a lot of wear and tear on our players in terms of travel. And I think our postseason format would be even more appealing for entities like ESPN, because you'd be playing out of the East and out of the West." Manfred didn't explicitly detail what realignment would look like, but he continued to emphasize the idea of teams that are closer together playing more games against one another. "That 10 o'clock timeslot where we sometimes get Boston-Anaheim would be two West Coast teams," Manfred said. "That 10 o'clock slot that's a problem for us sometimes becomes a real opportunity for our West Coast audience. "I think the owners realize that there's demand for Major League Baseball. We're in a lot of great cities. We have the opportunity to do something good around that expansion process." ADVERTISEMENT MLB has used a geographically-based realignment idea in recent memory. While MLB didn't realign divisions, it had a geographically-based schedule for the 60-game 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The American and National Leagues remained in place, but teams only faced division rivals and interleague games against teams from the corresponding division (AL and NL East, AL and NL Central, AL and NL West) during the regular season. Considering Manfred's comments, the 2020 season could be a guideline for what's to come if expansion and realignment were to take place. It might also mean that MLB similarly divides its two leagues as the NBA and NHL divide their two conferences. As for expansion, Manfred has stated in the past that he'd like to see two teams added to MLB before he retires as commissioner in 2029. A handful of cities have been speculated as expansion candidates in recent years, but MLB believes the strongest two candidates for expansion are Nashville and Salt Lake City, USA Today reported in July. Expansion would bring the total number of teams in MLB to 32, likely necessitating some sort of divisional realignment. If it does happen, the league could either do what the NFL does and have eight divisions of four teams or follow the NHL's path and have four divisions of eight teams.
