The interesting record Wire extended by beating Leigh
LAST week, we asked whether or not Warrington Wolves would be able to use their 'home away from home' at the Totally Wicked Stadium to their advantage in the Challenge Cup semi-finals.
They did just that and in doing so, they made it a fifth victory in a row at the home ground of neighbours St Helens encompassing two cup semi-finals and three trips to face Saints.
Not only that, but they also kept up an interesting record they have over vanquished opponents Leigh Leopards, whom they beat 21-14 to book a Wembley date with Hull KR on June 7.
The result means Warrington have still never lost to Leigh on neutral ground – a record stretching all the way back to 1901.
That year, the sides drew 0-0 in Wigan in the South West Lancashire and Border Towns Cup Final – and a replay never took place.
They then met in London in 1955, when Loftus Road hosted the ITV Television final which The Wire won 43-18.
Much closer was the 1982 meeting in a Premiership Trophy first round replay, which was due to be held at Wilderspool until the main stand was destroyed by fire to render the ground temporarily unusable.
The tie was switched to Wigan's Central Park, with Warrington running out 10-9 winners.
Finally, the two sides met at the Totally Wicked Stadium in 2021 when Super League rounds were being played behind closed doors at various grounds due to Covid restrictions. Warrington were 44-12 winners that day.

But as he took time for himself away from the field, an unlikely hobby helped the reliever get his career back on track: video games. ' 'MLB The Show' actually was a big part about me learning how to pitch and figuring out how to pitch,' said Garza, whom the Mets acquired from the Giants Saturday. 'It's so realistic at times, just playing that video game.'

Amazon doco 'cathartic' for CA after Sandpapergate
The door remains ajar for another season of the hit series, The Test, that Prime Video believes was "cathartic" for Cricket Australia following Sandpapergate. Launching amid the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, The Test gave viewers a raw, behind-the-scenes glimpse into the Australian men's cricket team's road to redemption. The previous season was released in 2024, focusing on the eventful 2023 Ashes showdown in England. Prime Video have "nothing to announce" about a potential season four, but The Test remains a much-loved program of their stable of original content. The first season was all about Australia attempting to recover from the 2018 ball-tampering scandal that rocked cricket. Justin Langer was installed as the new coach, while star batters Steve Smith and David Warner served one-year bans until returning for the 2019 ODI World Cup. Everyone remembers Ben Stokes' special Ashes innings a year ago today 💫But don't ever forget Justin Langer's bin kick + bonus clean-up 😂#TheTest — Amazon Prime Video Sport (@primevideosport) August 25, 2020 "It was almost cathartic, I think, for Cricket Australia, and we were privileged to be able to capture that within the documentary, and offer it to the public," Prime Video Sport's managing director Alex Green told AAP. "It was just one of those fortuitous moments when I think the sport (and CA), as well as we wanted to bring something that was a big change in the way cricket, and perhaps sport, generally, had been watched before." Since launching The Test, Prime Video won the rights to broadcast all ICC events into Australia until 2027. The World Test Championship final between Australia and South Africa, starting at Lord's on Wednesday, will be shown exclusively on Prime Video in Australia. When the deal was announced, it was a dramatic change to how viewers had experienced world cups and international tournaments. "We've faced this multiple times," Green said of the public reaction to watching sport on a service that wasn't free-to-air or traditional pay-TV. "For the very first Premier League (EPL) deal, we were then going to be the third broadcaster of Premier League in the UK. "In reality, because the reach of Amazon Prime is so vast, it's on the way to being free-to-air. "We don't see ourselves, and generally, the public don't see us as another sports subscription service, we're something much wider than that." Amazon have also been linked to the NRL, with Australian Rugby League Commission Peter V'landys currently negotiating the next broadcast deal. When the AFL's last TV contract was struck back in 2022, Prime Video were also reported as being interested in the rights. "We don't speculate on specific future rights," Prime Video's Australia and New Zealand head of content Alexandra Gilbert told AAP. "We're building that groundswell around cricket, and then NBA, so that's where we're focused now. "We're always assessing opportunities to add value for Prime members. "Absolutely we'd love to do another version of The Test, whether it's with a different sport, or something that resonates strongly, but what that is is sort of TBD (to-be-determined)." The AFL documentary, Making Their Mark, which followed some players, coaches and administrators during the COVID-affected 2020 season was also a Prime Video original. This AAP article was made possible by support from Amazon Prime Video, which is broadcasting the World Test Championship final.

New Betting Odds Reveal Red Wings As Potential Landing Spot for Jonathan Toews
Blackhawks' Jonathan Toews aims return to NHL action next season with next team betting odds revealing surprising contenders. Image The three-time Stanley Cup Champion with the Chicago Blackhawks, Jonathan Toews is looking to make a return to hockey. The reports came as Toews is coming back after battling a number of ailments including long COVID and Chronic Immune Response Syndrome. Advertisement Toews was one of the league's best players in his prime with a dominant two-way game that labeled him as one of the best defensive forwards of his generation. Any team would be lucky to have his experience, veteran leadership and hopefully decent production on the scoresheet. No one knows where the now 37-year-old centre will go but new betting odds posted by several sportsbooks give us a subtle indication of where he might go. Jonathan Toews Next Team Betting Odds Per FanDuel Sportsbook Winnipeg Jets +210 Toronto Maple Leafs +300 Colorado Avalanche +470 Vegas Golden Knights +650 Edmonton Oilers +1100 Tampa Bay Lightning +1500 Detroit Red Wings +1900 Anaheim Ducks +2200 New York Rangers +3400 Dallas Stars +4500 Los Angeles Kings +4500 Washington Capitals +4500 Minnesota Wild +4500 Florida Panthers +4500 New York Islanders +5000 Calgary Flames +5000 New Jersey Devils +5000 Chicago Blackhawks +5500 Carolina Hurricanes +5500 Boston Bruins +6000 Bookmark The Hockey News Detroit Red Wings team site to stay connected to the latest news, game-day coverage, and player features. The leader is Toews' hometown of Winnipeg, Manitoba where he can play for a legitimate cup contender as well as be close to his family. One of the surprising names towards the top is the Red Wings, with the seventh-best odds at +1900, making them an intriguing option with one storyline in mind. Chicago's dynasty in the 2010s was highlighted by the dynamic duo of Toews and Patrick Kane. The duo hasn't played together since 2023 when Kane was dealt to the New York Rangers. A reunion would instantly become one of the league's most compelling storylines and could give the Red Wings a dependable second-line centre option. Advertisement It's been noted by several NHL insiders this off-season that the second line centre position will be one that many teams are looking to fill. The Red Wings are one of these teams in need with Marco Kasper and J.T. Compher being their only current options. Adding a player of Toews' caliber would be massive and would likely add some line chemistry by placing him with Kane once again. More Red Wings: Red Wings 2025 Free‑Agent Class: Breaking Down Patrick Kane, Alex Lyon and More Detroit has just $23.1 million in cap space heading into the off-season, which means they'll potentially have a chance to land the longtime Blackhawks captain However, they could be outbid, as the Red Wings will likely need to prioritize their spending elsewhere such as re-signing Kane before exploring other free-agent additions. Advertisement Kane remaining with the team could help entice Toews to join Detroit, offering him the chance to reunite with a familiar face while becoming part of a team trending toward playoff contention.
