Hunt joins City after they parted ways with coach Simo Dladla, who led the team to the Motsepe Foundation Championship title and secured promotion to the top flight for next season.
The club officially confirmed Hunt's appointment on Wednesday afternoon, following widespread reports linking him with the newly promoted side.
Durban City have cited Gavin Hunt's 'leadership style and results-driven approach' as the primary reason for appointing him as the club's new head coach.

The veteran coach had been a free agent since his departure from the soon-to-be-defunct SuperSport United. While some members of the football fraternity were surprised by the move — with critics suggesting Hunt's time had passed in an ever-evolving football landscape — Durban City strongly backed the 59-year-old.
The club highlighted Hunt's extensive experience and success in South African football, including four league titles, as central to their decision.
'His leadership style and results-driven approach aligns perfectly with Durban City's ambitions as we prepare for the upcoming Betway Premiership season,' the club said in a statement.
Club chairman Farook Kadodia also expressed full confidence in Hunt's ability to guide the club through this new chapter, noting the coach's vast knowledge and recent milestone of managing his 1 000th professional match.
'We are thrilled to welcome Gavin to Durban City,' said Kadodia. 'His record speaks for itself, and we believe he is the right person to lead our team into this exciting new era.
'His professionalism, football knowledge and winning mentality are exactly what the club needs as we strive to compete at the highest level.'

Confirmed: When Springboks will name team to face Georgia

The Springboks are currently preparing for their final Incoming Series match against Georgia at the Mbombela Stadium this Saturday, which will serve as another all-important opportunity to ensure they can head full steam into the Rugby Championship. There is every expectation that Rassie Erasmus will once again mix and match with his selections, with Test debuts likely to be handed out out to the likes of Marnus van der Merwe and Neethling Fouche. Siya Kolisi could also be afforded some game-time after recovering from injury, while other prominent players such as Aphelele Fassi, Eben Etzebeth, RG Snyman and Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu could get some more minutes under the belt before the Rugby Championship. Erasmus will name the Springbok team to face Georgia at the Mbombela Stadium on Tuesday at 14:00. The match itself this Saturday will kick off at 17:10. Although there are some positions where the Springbok coaches might still be debating who should be regarded as 'first-choice', the standout performance from Grant Williams this past weekend may well have wrapped up the battle for the No 9 jersey. The match was not only significant for new Springbok centurion Willie le Roux and the three debutants – Asenathi Ntlabakanye, Cobus Wiese, and Ethan Hooker – but also for Williams who made a strong statement in his first game back from a long injury layoff. Commenting on his comeback, Williams quipped: 'I wish I could have played for the Sharks first. There was a bit of nerves this week after a frustrating three months, but I'm happy we got the win and personally to be able to play again. There was obviously a little rust, but I'm looking forward to the next couple of weeks.' The Springboks made the trip from Gqeberha to Nelspruit via Johannesburg on Sunday and will return to the training field on Monday to begin their preparations for the closing match of the series against Georgia. 'Give him my No. 31 jersey': Chiefs legend back new midfielder

Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Willard Katsande wants new signing Siphesihle Ndlovu to inherit jersey number 31. Katsande, affectionately known as 'Salt and Pepper' by fans, wore the number 31 jersey for over a decade for Amakhosi. Speaking to FARPost , the retired midfielder admitted that he has always been a fan of the former SuperSport United and Orlando Pirates midfielder. The former Chiefs midfielder has praised Ndlovu's energy and his tackling ability. 'He's my boy. Because you can see the way he poses. Trust me, I've been a fan of his for some time. I could see the way he plays. He's a very energetic boy. If we have to play, we can play; if we have to be stuck in tackles, we can stick in tackles. So I've seen him in a couple of games,' he told FARPost . 'Even sometimes, when I saw him in one of the matches, when he played at FNB Stadium, I told him, 'boy, you deserve to be here. Not the other way around'. So I'm happy that the club brought him on board because he's going to bring a lot of quality and value to the team. 'Even experience-wise, you know, he's somebody who has won the trophies and somebody who knows how to play for a big team. So he's going to be good, and he's going to rub it into the young ones because he does have a never-die spirit. And you could see the way he plays.' The Amakhosi legend said his wish was for Ndlovu to wear the number 31 jersey at Chiefs. 'He's just an unbelievable boy. I can't wait for him to play. I wish he can get number 31. For him to remember me. But I'm happy for him. He's a very good boy,' said the former Chiefs midfielder. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 0211.
