Selangor to implement circular economy framework by 2026
Pilot initiatives such as the SelKitar programme and an electronic waste recycling scheme are already in motion to encourage sustainable practices among residents.
Amirudin emphasised that the transition involves more than just recycling for profit. 'We are building up the system gradually.
The real challenge is establishing a comprehensive, functioning ecosystem,' he said during the launch of the 'Plastic-Free Campaign 2025: Series 2' in Klang.
Urban centres like Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya, and Shah Alam will likely be the first to adopt the circular economy model due to their advanced infrastructure and urban lifestyles.
The approach focuses on waste reduction through reuse, recycling, and repurposing materials to conserve resources and cut emissions.
The Housing and Local Government Ministry has already taken steps by introducing the Solid Waste Circular Economy Action Plan 2025–2035 in August 2024.
The plan outlines five key areas: governance, guidelines, digitalisation, infrastructure, and market development.
Additionally, Selangor is revising bylaws across 12 local councils to strengthen the 'No Plastic Bag Day' policy. '
All councils will be briefed before the amendments are presented at the next State Legislative Assembly session,' Amirudin added. - Bernama

CPO Futures End Higher On Tighter Supply Outlook
Palm oil trader David Ng said traders expect production in Malaysia to ease in the coming weeks, lending support to prices. KUALA LUMPUR, July 7 (Bernama) -- The crude palm oil (CPO) futures contract on Bursa Malaysia Derivatives ended higher today, supported by expectations of weaker production. 'Seasonal factors and weather conditions are likely to slow down harvesting, leading to a tighter supply outlook for Malaysian palm oil,' he told Bernama. He said stronger export performance is also supporting prices as firm demand from key buyers helps absorb supply. 'We see support at RM4,000 per tonne and resistance at RM4,150,' he said.

Malaysia Guided By National Interest In Multilateral Engagement, MITI Says After US Warning To BRICS Allies
KUALA LUMPUR, July 7 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's engagement with any multilateral platform is focused on trade facilitation and sustainable development, guided by national interest rather than ideological alignment, said the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI). The ministry emphasised that Malaysia would maintain an independent foreign and economic policy. 'The United States (US) remains one of Malaysia's key economic partners, not only through trade but also through the multi-billion-dollar American investments that have been established in Malaysia for more than 50 years,' MITI said in response to reports about US President Donald Trump warning that countries that align with the 'Anti-American policies' of BRICS would face an additional 10 per cent tariff.
