Queensland postman says he enjoys helping after going viral for sweet clothesline act

A Queensland postman has opened up after he went viral and was praised for taking a customer's washing off the line as it started to rain. Verrity Wandel had hung her sheets up to dry at her Kingston property, southeast of Brisbane, on Thursday and was not home when wet weather fell. She expected to return to find her sheets soaked but was stunned to see they had been folded and placed by the door. Ms Wandel initially thought her husband retrieved them but he said it was not him. She then checked security cameras and saw an Australia Post worker carry out the good deed. After delivering the parcel, postman Gurpreet Singh could be seen grabbing the sheets from the clothesline one by one and bringing them under shelter. Ms Wandel could not help but share what happened to social media, with the act quickly going viral online. 'This is 1 in a million,' she wrote about the Australia Post employee's kind act. Speaking to Sunrise on Tuesday, Mr Singh did not think it was a big deal and was willing to assist a customer where he can. 'I like helping, sliding a customer's parcels inside their premises or under the doorway because we are not allowed to go inside,' he said. 'So helping them out (by) taking their parcel upstairs, these sort of things.' Mr Singh said it was obvious no one was at home and when he dropped the parcel off, he turned around and noticed the sheets hanging up. 'It just came to my mind to do that,' he added. Ms Wandel agreed faith in humanity rises with good deeds such as the one by Mr Singh. 'It's something that probably would've happened in my parents' era or back in a small community but it's not something you would expect today,' she said. The pair met this week and already plan to have a coffee together. The Brisbane woman's video has been watched by almost three million people. Many comments praised Mr Singh for being a 'good man'.
