What to expect at the Highland Gathering this year
HYPE is ballooning to an all-time high in the days leading up to the Highland Gathering on May 3. While the rains have left Hutchison Park's rugby field increasingly water-logged, visitors may well have to bring along snorkels and a wetsuit to enjoy the highly anticipated event.

Have no fear, however, as hosts, the Lions Club of Amanzimtoti, have brought the action closer to you, and made certain you will have less walking to do. The entire event is now split across the soccer field, which will facilitate the arena events, flea market, beer tents and food courts, while the cricket field will feature the pipe bands, bar, flea market, food stalls, children, outdoor and tourism stands.
Arena Events:
At 10:00, the Penzance Primary School Band will be playing, followed by expertly-choreographed routines by the Rhythmic Dance Studio at 10:20. An hour later, fans of head-nodding, foot-stomping beats can enjoy the talented Double Beat Drum Studio. Combat Coaching will demonstrate their tai chi display at 11:40 and Big Top Entertainment will wow spectators at 11:55. Fusion Rhythmic Gymnastics will show off their flexible moves at 12:25 and Croc World's non-venomous reptile show will have you slithering back to your seats at 12:45. The talented dancers at Fancy Feet take to the stage at 13:15 and prospective Mr and Mrs Highland Gathering contestants will strut their stuff down the runway at 13:20.
Parking
Public parking will be available on the Amanzimtoti Civic Centre grounds, with overspill on the open space between the river and Civic Road.
Parking at Lords and Legends is exclusively for stall holders and those directly assisting with the gathering. Busses are to use the parking around the Amanzimtoti Squash Club.
Where to enter
The Amanzimtoti Rugby Club Across from the Amanzimtoti Civic Centre along Hutchison Road, around 50m from the T-junction with Riverside Road. Lords and Legends on the river side of the building.

Mbuso Khoza pleads for payment from TV show boss Duma Ndlovu
Mbuso Khoza composed music for the Mzansi Magic faith-based telenovela, 'Umkhokha' in which he also acted. Musician and actor Mbuso Khoza has asked TV show creator Duma Ndlovu to pay him for work the muso did on Ndlovu's show Umkhokha: The Curse. Tagging him in a Facebook post, Khoza pleaded with Khoza: 'Please take my call regarding the money you owe me on Umkhokha from 2021 until the last season. Please take my call, I composed many songs for the show. Please awube wumuntu [please be a human being].' Khoza composed music for the Mzansi Magic faith-based telenovela, in which he also acted. Ndlovu, famous for the creation of the recently canned Muvhango, was the executive producer on Umkhokha. Mzansi Magic decided not to continue with Umkhokha, and the popular show last aired in February this year. After giving him days to respond to the allegations made by Khoza about the payment dispute, Ndlovu did not respond to The Citizen's request for comment. When contacted by The Citizen, Khoza didn't want to comment on the payment dispute and said he was busy with another project that had just been launched. Prince Kaybee slams Dricus: 'Why did he lie about white genocide?'
Prince Kaybee is one of many South Africans on social media who have called out Dricus du Plessis over his endorsement of US President Donald Trump and Elon Musk, who have accused South Africa of promoting a 'white genocide'. Over the weekend, the MMA fighter was dethroned of the UFC Middleweight World Champion title belt by his opponent Khamzat Chimaev. On his X account, Prince Kaybee criticised Dricus du Plessis on his views on South Africa. He tweeted about the former UFC champion: 'Why did he lie or carry the white genocide propaganda? We have our differences. But in most cases, people just generally get along. I mean, I have white people who religiously listen to my music, and I appreciate them as people who support me. 'Why was he embracing the falsehood? Did he not think it would come with some backlash? What was he thinking, man?' Dricus du Plessis has not said anything relating to a 'white genocide'. However, he has shown public support for President Trump and Pretoria-born billionaire Elon Musk Earlier this year, Dricus infamously donned a slogan T-shirt that read: 'Trump prefers champions'. When asked about the re-elected president, the MMA fighter said, 'He is amazing, and I've had the privilege of meeting him. 'He said good changes are coming.
