Hamilton firm's double at the Scotland Energy Efficiency Awards
A Hamilton company has scooped a number of top prizes at the Scotland Energy Efficiency Awards.
Procast Group, based in Alness Street, won the Insulation and Fabric Installer of the Year award.
And the company's Cairan Devaney was named the Trainee/Apprentice of the Year award.
There were 13 categories up for grabs at the awards ceremony at Crowne Plaza, Glasgow, attended by individuals and companies throughout Scotland that are involved in the energy efficiency industry.
Energy Efficiency Awards chairman Gary Braybrooke said: 'The winners are leaders in energy efficiency in the UK and these awards, now in their 11th year, are testament to their innovation, expertise and dedication to a greener future for us all.
'They are at the heart of transforming the way that energy is used, making a real difference to businesses and households throughout the country. The success stories we've seen tonight highlight the power of collaboration between businesses, policy makers and communities. These achievements showcase how partnerships and forward-thinking approaches can lead to meaningful and measurable change.'
Event organiser Kenneth Campbell said: 'These awards recognise the organisations and individuals driving real progress towards a more sustainable future. Each of our awards recipients has set new benchmarks for what is possible in reducing energy consumption, cutting carbon emissions, and making a lasting impact on businesses, communities, and the environment.
'We hope that these awards not only celebrate past and present achievements, but also inspire others to push the boundaries of energy efficiency in the future.'

Builder wins ‘significant' slice of £980m homes contract
Hamilton-based Procast Group has been awarded Lot 13 on the Greater Manchester Combined Authority Net Zero Housing Retrofit Framework Agreement. The contract is for a national framework, covering all nine regions of England, not just Greater Manchester. However, it is geared towards supporting Greater Manchester's Net Zero target of 2038 – 12 years ahead of the overall UK Government target. The work will see Procast Group carry out an end-to-end solution from surveying to handover, with significant opportunities across England's housing stock and access to various government grant funding schemes. The framework is available to all public sector, housing associations, and third sector organisations. Trainee wage brought back for Jersey apprentices
A trainee wage is being brought back by Jersey's government for businesses to pay its apprentices in Jersey have been paying apprentices the minimum wage of £13 since the lower rate was scrapped in 2023. The government said reintroducing the trainee rates would help businesses hire more apprentices into skilled Chamber of Commerce, which represents local businesses, said about 70% of the 79 businesses surveyed said having to pay trainees the minimum wage made them less likely to hire September, first-year trainees will be paid £10.50 an hour and second-year trainees will get £11.75. People already on a training programme will continue to be paid £13. The chamber said its survey highlighted "significant concern among local employers" and had "urged the government to rethink"."A clear majority, 57 respondents, said their business would benefit if the trainee wage rate was reinstated," it said. Jersey 'built on talent' The chamber said there would be "relief among small businesses who were faced with increased wage costs for trainees".It added that "employers would feel confident in offering entry-level opportunities for young people and those with no prior experience".President of the Jersey Chamber of Commerce said the island was "built on talent"."I think this programme is going to enhance the sectors, it's going to improve the economy and hopefully it's going to retain some of the young workforce who actually stay in Jersey," he said. Minister for Social Security Deputy Lyndsay Feltham said the "key difference" now was that there were "clear guidelines so employers and employees can be informed about what they are doing".She said: "It's really important that employees in particular know their rights and are aware around what training is available within this offer."Employers are working within a competitive environment in order to encourage staff to come and work with them - it's really important that employers are offering a good offering to people."

The firm took home the 'Small Project of the Year' award at the Energy Efficiency Awards for the delivery of the Cefn Mably Farm Park solar installation. The project was delivered with the support of Newport City Council Shared Prosperity Fund. The initiative involved the installation of 180 solar panels at tourist attraction Cefn Mably Farm Park, situated between Cardiff and Newport. Cardiff-based Green Energy Solar has been recognised for its outstanding delivery of a local energy-saving project under £250,000, demonstrating a strong commitment to sustainability and high-quality workmanship. 'The installation at Cefn Mably Farm Park has been a fantastic project from start to finish,' said John Bloomfield, Director and Co-Founder of Green Energy Solar. 'What's particularly rewarding is seeing how well the installation aligns with the park's values and how positively it's been received by the local community. For Cefn Mably Farm Park, this paves the way for a more sustainable future and we're proud to have played a role in that journey.' The Cefn Mably Farm Park project was supported by Newport City Council's Shared Prosperity Fund, a programme designed to drive local growth and sustainability. The opportunity for funding has now been extended until March 2026.
