Man sought by police, arrested and in court
Xabiso Mngcongo (34) was arrested and appeared in court today.
The Middelburg Observer published an article on our website about the BOLO WhatsApp group, which helps look for missing persons and other cases.
One of their recent posts was that of Mngcongo, whom a task team from Joza SAPS was looking for.
A reward of up to R50 000 was offered by the police for information that could assist in locating Mngcongo. He is a person of interest in their investigation of at least four murders committed between November 2022 and June 2024 in Kwazakhele (Gqeberha) and Joza (Makhanda).
The investigating officer, Detective Warrant Officer Barend Lensley, just confirmed that Mngcongo handed himself over to the police and has appeared in court.

Gauteng cop and wife charged with kidnapping, extortion of Swiss national
JOHANNESBURG - A Gauteng cop from Tarlton Police Station and his wife have appeared in court for the extortion and kidnapping of a Swiss national diamond dealer. Sergeant John Motladile and his wife, Yvonne, briefly appeared in the Kempton Park Magistrates court on Wednesday afternoon. They face charges of kidnapping and extortion relating to a 23-year-old Swiss national who arrived in Joburg last week, to purchase diamonds after seeing an advert on Facebook for the gems. The victim was held against his will at a home in Randfontein last week, where he met with a prospective seller of two uncut diamonds. Motladile interrupted the sale, threatening to arrest the victim should he not pay them more than R200,000. The victim was forced into a marked police van, driven to a popular fast-food outlet and ordered to buy the Motladile and his wife food and drinks. He allegedly paid the Motladile and his wife close to R50,000, but this wasn't enough. Interpol raised the flag after the victim's family contacted authorities for assistance. The victim was released shortly after crime intelligence members made contact with him, scaring Motladile and his wife. The pair were positively identified by the victim on Tuesday and arrested. They will remain in custody before applying for bail next week.

Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla to go on trial later this year
The state alleges Zuma-Sambudla used social media to incite and support acts of violence. The case against uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party MP Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla has been declared trial-ready, with proceedings in her July unrest matter scheduled for later this year. Zuma-Sambudla appeared at the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) High Court in Durban on Thursday for a pre-trial hearing. She last appeared in March after her matter was transferred from the Durban Magistrate's Court. The MK party MP was released on warning earlier this year after handing herself over at the Durban Central Police Station. The trial is set to run from 10 to 21 November. Her defence team, led by Advocate Dali Mpofu, has previously indicated its intention to file representations to National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP) Shamila Batohi, seeking to have the decision to indict her reviewed and overturned. A prior request to KZN Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Elaine Zungu to drop the charges was rejected. Zuma-Sambudla linked to July 2021 unrest Zuma-Sambudla faces charges of terrorism and incitement to commit violence linked to the July 2021 unrest. She is being prosecuted under the Protection of Constitutional Democracy against Terrorist and Related Activities Act (POCDATARA). The state alleges Zuma-Sambudla used her X account – which has over 360,000 followers – to incite and support acts of violence, looting, road blockades, arson, and other offences during the unrest, according to the charge sheet. She allegedly fuelled unrest by sharing social media posts condemning the arrest of her father, former president Jacob Zuma, for contempt of court, and by reposting images and videos depicting the chaos. Alleged rhino-horn possession: Nelspruit court postpones case again
The long-running case against Schalk Abraham 'AB' Steyn and Limpopo game farmer Dawie Groenewald, who face charges of illegal possession and transportation of rhino horns, has been postponed again. Lowvelder reports that the pair briefly appeared in the Nelspruit Regional Court yesterday, where the matter was set down for a pretrial conference on November 10. Steyn and Groenewald were arrested together on July 20, 2021, at a property in the Riverside area, in Mbombela, where 19 rhino horns were allegedly found. They were granted bail of R50 000 each shortly afterwards. Since their arrest, the case has seen multiple delays – from legal representation issues to the defence requesting further documentation from the state.
