Actor, Maksym Kovtun, killed on front line defending Ukraine
Actor-turned-soldier Maksym Kovtun was killed on the front line, the Dnipro Academic Youth Theater said on May 2.
"Maksym went to the front to protect our country, our freedom, and our future," the theater in a post to social media.
Kovtun was a member of the youth theater before he began serving in the .
"Maksym Kovtun died defending . His roles — bright, sincere, full of warmth — will forever remain in our hearts. He played for children and adults, giving joy, laughter, and deep emotions," the theater said.
"Our entire theater team, colleagues, and friends express their deepest condolences to Maksym's family, his loved ones, and everyone who was by Maksym's side in life," the theater said.
More than 45,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed since the start of Russia's full-scale war in 2022, President Volodymyr Zelensky said in February.
Ukraine the bodies of 909 soldiers killed in Russia's war, Ukraine's Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of POWs announced on April 18.
Many have abandoned their careers to defend on the front line as Russia continues to wage its war against Ukraine.

Ukraine's drone attack halts work at electronic plant in Chuvashia, Russia says
(Reuters) -Production was temporarily suspended at an electronics company in Russia's Volga river region of Chuvashia, some 1,300 km (800 miles) from the border with Ukraine, after two drones fell on the plant's territory, the head of the region said on Monday. The strike - among the deepest into Russia by a Ukrainian drone in more than three years of the war - caused no casualties, Chuvashia Governor Oleg Nikolayev said in a statement on the Telegram messaging app. But "the responsible decision was made to temporarily suspend production to ensure the safety of employees" of the VNIIR enterprise where the drones fell, Nikolayev said. It was not immediately clear whether the drones caused any damage. Nikolayev said that another drone fell onto some fields in the area of the capital of the region, Cheboksary. The Russian defence ministry - which reports only how many drones were destroyed not how many Ukraine launched - said on Telegram that its units downed two drones over Chuvashia. In total, it said, air defence systems destroyed 49 Ukrainian drones overnight over Russia. According to photos and videos on unofficial Russian and Telegram news channels, the drones sparked a fire at the VNIIR plant that they said produces components for electronic warfare. Reuters could not independently verify the reports. There was no immediate comment from Ukraine. Kyiv has often said that its attacks inside Russia are aimed at destroying infrastructure key to Moscow's war efforts and are in response to the continued Russian strikes on Ukraine. The VNIIR Russian Scientific Research Design and Technological Institute of Relay Engineering with experimental production in Chuvashia is on the U.S. sanctions list, according to the U.S. Treasury website. A Ukrainian drone attack on the Voronezh region that borders Ukraine damaged a gas pipeline, cutting off gas supplies to 22 clients, the region's governor, Alexander Gusev, said on the Telegram.

Zelensky says he understands Putin ‘much better' than Trump
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukrainian officials understand Russian leader Vladimir Putin 'much better' than President Trump, who has repeatedly said Putin wants peace, even as he rejects U.S. proposals for a ceasefire. 'With all due respect to President Trump, I think it's just his personal opinion,' Zelensky told Martha Raddatz on ABC's 'This Week' in an interview that aired Sunday morning. 'Trust me, we understand the Russians much better, the mentality of the Russians, than the Americans understand the Russians. I know for sure Putin doesn't want to stop the war.' Zelensky also took issue with Trump's comments in the Oval Office this week comparing Ukraine and Russia to children fighting. 'We are not playing in the park with the Russians like two boys, two kids. Putin is not a kid,' Zelensky said. 'So we can't compare, and we cannot say, 'OK, let them fight for a while.'' 'And it's not about President Trump,' he added. 'Anyone living thousands of miles away can't fully understand the pain, even parents who live in Ukraine cannot feel the pain of those who lost their children.' Ukraine stunned Russia last weekend with drone attacks on Russian air bases, which it said destroyed dozens of bombers. The drones were smuggled into Russia on 18-wheeler trucks, which were parked near military bases and remotely opened ahead of the attack. Trump spoke with Putin on Wednesday, telling reporters that Russia planned to retaliate for the drone strikes. Russia killed five people in Ukraine in drone attacks the next day. Raddatz asked Zelensky if he believed Trump thinks Russia is winning the war. 'I think he's publicly said about it, and I know that he shared this information with some people around him, and I think the separation — and I said it a lot of times, it's not true. It's not a victory when you spent, really spent 1 million people,' he said. Zelensky added that Trump 'must' impose stronger sanctions on Russia. Trump this week said he had yet to look at Sen. Lindsey Graham's (R-S.C.) Russia sanctions bill, which is co-sponsored by more than 80 senators, but the president said senators would not move without his blessing. Senators in both parties are itching for the green light. Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) told reporters that the bill could hit the floor during the current four-week work period. '[The White House is] still hopeful they'll be able to strike some sort of a deal, but … there's a high level of interest here in the Senate on both sides of the aisle in moving on it,' he said. 'I think a genuine interest in doing something to make clear to Russia that they need to come to the table … I think that would have a big impact.'
