D Gukesh Breaks Silence On Magnus Carlsen's Post-Loss Outburst: "Also Banged..."

Following his stunning victory over former world number one Magnus Carlsen in the round six of Norway Chess, India's World Champion chess star D Gukesh spoke on how he was not pleased with his win and had a sporting reaction to Carlsen's post-match outburst, which saw him bang the table aggressively and send down some pieces falling, reported Gukesh pulled off a stunning victory against the former world number one in Round 6 of the ongoing Norway Chess 2025 tournament, turning the game around from a losing position on Sunday. This marked Gukesh's first-ever classical win over the Norwegian grandmaster. The 19-year-old also became the second Indian player to beat Carlsen in the competition's history after Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa. That moment when World Champion @DGukesh won his game against World no.1 Magnus Carlsen! Video: @adityasurroy21 / ChessBase India #chess #chessbaseindia #norwaychess #gukesh — ChessBase India (@ChessbaseIndia) June 1, 2025 Speaking after the match as quoted by Gukesh said about his win, "I mean, [it was] not the way I wanted it to be, but okay, I will take it." He also took Carlsen's outburst in a sporting manner, understanding the frustration he must have faced, saying, "I have also banged a lot of tables in my career." In the video now posted on the official X handle of Norway Chess, just after the win was sealed by Gukesh, Carlsen let out his emotions by banging the table, sending some pieces falling on the board and down on the floor too. While he did not forget to shake Gukesh's hand and give him a pat on his back as the Indian star tried collecting himself emotionally after a stunning win, Carlsen's frustration with his performance was visible. Gukesh was still in shock after his win and the way he pulled it off from behind, saying, "99 out of 100 times I would lose," but it was just a lucky day." Carlsen had an upper hand over Gukesh for most of the time in the match, but in the end, he couldn't control his nerves, and the teenager turned the tables around and went on to win the match. With this win, D Gukesh jumped to third spot in the Norway Chess 2025 points table with 8.5 points, and now he is just one point behind Carlsen and American Fabiano Caruana. Earlier on May 27, the marquee clash of Round One at Norway Chess 2025 lived up to expectations as Carlsen launched a classic king hunt to defeat reigning World Champion D Gukesh in a thrilling encounter. This was their first classical match since Gukesh won the world title, and it also marked Carlsen's return to individual classical chess after nearly a year. Reacting to the upset victory, Gukesh's coach, Grandmaster Vishnu Prasanna, praised the teenager's resilience and fighting spirit."We have to give a lot of credit to Gukesh for his stubbornness and his resourcefulness because I think he was aware that he was dead lost for so long, yet he kept kicking, he kept kicking, and the time went lower, the more chances he had to actually do something with the position. I do not think he intended to win that, but I am sure he is happy," Vishnu Prasanna said.

18 calling 18: Could this be the year for Virat Kohli and RCB?

A winner of ICC World Cups in both formats, the U-19 World Cup, Champions Trophy and the No 1 Test mace, has checked almost every major cricket trophy box except one — the Indian Premier League. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now He has come agonizingly close on three occasions in the past when his team, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, failed to surmount the final hurdle. Those defeats have hurt. The 36-year-old will have another opportunity to add what has become an elusive trophy to his cabinet. It might be his best chance yet, given the way RCB have played this season. After several false dawns, they have, finally, looked like a champion team. , who recently retired from Test cricket, has been Royal Challengers Bengaluru's driving force for years, joining the franchise in the inaugural year — a time when his career was still more of a promise and less of an accomplishment. He now is their mainstay, the skipper without the captain's armband, the man for whom fans queue up several hours in advance just to catch a glimpse. 'He looks very focused,' said AB de Villiers, Kohli's former teammate at RCB and South African stalwart. 'The job's not done yet, but I have no doubt he will play a big hand.' IPL 2025 Winner Prediction: What Greenstone Lobo's Astrology says It's been a long IPL road for Kohli with RCB. He led the Bengalurubased franchise from 2013 to 2021, during which their best performance was the runner-up finish in 2016. In previous years, he had superstars like Anil Kumble, Daniel Vettori, Chirs Gayle, De Villiers and Faf du Plessis and could rely on their wealth of experience, but this year has perhaps been the most challenging since he is RCB's most seasoned player. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Yet, he has, unofficially, marshalled the team's resources admirably, allowing Rajat Patidar to settle down as captain and guiding Jitesh Sharma as stand-in skipper. Poll Will this be Kohli's year to finally win the IPL title with RCB? Yes, it's his best chance yet No, they will fall short again Teaming up mostly with Phil Salt and in his absence Jacob Bethell, Kohli has given RCB starts which have proved game-changing on more than one occasion this season. While players half his age are going slam bang, Kohli has redefined the art of mixing elegance with aggression, scoring 614 runs in 14 matches thus far at a healthy strike rate of 146.63.' While an unbeaten 73, against Punjab Kings in a league fixture remains his best so far, the seven other half centuries he has scored have added weight to RCB's campaign. 'I don't want to be a one-season wonder': Punjab Kings' Shashank Singh In a season where there have been injuries to key players like Josh Hazlewood and Devdutt Padikkal, Kohli has helped the team weather the storm and stay focused. Kohli, who with 714 runs was the highest run getter last season, may have entered the twilight of his IPL career, but the fire to succeed burns as brightly as it did in 2008. It is probably that fire which could spur RCB to their maiden title triumph on Tuesday night

The national team secured two major white-ball titles - the T20 World Cup in 2024 and the Champions Trophy earlier this year. Another notable milestone under Binny's leadership was the introduction of the Women's Premier League (WPL), a women's franchise cricket league modeled after the successful Indian Premier League (IPL). This initiative marked a significant step forward for women's cricket in India. Binny's tenure also focused on strengthening domestic cricket through various measures. These included implementing better incentives, improving pay structures, and encouraging senior players to participate in domestic tournaments. Bombay Sport Exchange Ep4: India vs Pakistan relations, IPL's formation Before his administrative role, Binny had an impressive career as a bowling all-rounder for India. He represented the national team in 27 Test matches, scoring 830 runs with five half-centuries and taking 47 wickets. In the ODI format, Binny played 72 matches, contributing 629 runs with one half-century and claiming 77 wickets as a right-arm pacer. His most memorable achievement came during India's historic 1983 World Cup victory, where he emerged as the team's highest wicket-taker with 18 wickets. Prior to becoming BCCI president, Binny served as a member of the BCCI selection committee, bringing his cricketing expertise to the administrative side of the sport.
