Hong Kong authorities will conduct the last rounds of testing and finalisation of details for the National Games to be held in November, Chief Executive John Lee said on Saturday.
In a 100-day countdown ceremony, Lee said the city has held a number of test events over the past year for the upcoming sporting extravaganza and detailed the next step of preparations.
"Over the next 100 days, we will focus on streamlining the process for competitions, refining service arrangements, strengthening safety measures, and conducting final tests and rehearsals for various venues and scenarios," he said.
"That's to build a platform of fair competition for athletes and create an unforgettable experience for spectators."
For the first time, Hong Kong is co-hosting the Games, which will begin on November 9, along with Macau and Guangdong.
The chief executive was set to travel to Shenzhen in the evening to attend a separate countdown ceremony for the Games.

HK waiting for athletes' list in National Games race

HK waiting for athletes' list in National Games race Yeung Tak-keung expects the list of mainland athletes will be confirmed by early next month. File photo: RTHK The Hong Kong official in charge of the coordinating office for the National Games on Monday said it is waiting for the mainland to decide which athletes will be sent to compete in the events that will be staged in the SAR so that it can refine the competition schedule. Hong Kong will co-host its first National Games in November with Guangdong and Macau. Of the 34 sporting events featured in the Games, eight, including basketball, fencing and golf, will be held here. With less than 100 days to go, Yeung Tak-keung told an RTHK radio programme that his office will fine-tune its preparations. "The mainland has to hold trial or qualifying competitions to determine the list of teams and athletes who will come to Hong Kong to compete," he said. "Once there is a list, groupings will be carried out, and then the competition schedule will be refined, for example, to decide when to carry out the preliminary rounds, which teams will play against each other, etc. "These details are very important for us in organising the competitions." He expects the list will be ready by early next month. By then, Yeung said, his office can arrange accommodation and transport for the athletes. He also said that tens of thousands of volunteers will be assigned to carry out on-site trainings in the next three months. Yeung added final testing for ticket sales is under way and that an announcement will be made "very soon".

Hong Kong rugby star pledges to overcome shock of third knee injury

Rosie Wright has vowed to fight tooth and nail for her international rugby career, after 'excruciating' surgery to repair a third tear of her left anterior cruciate ligament. Advertisement Hong Kong sevens player Wright had been feeling 'better than ever' before she suffered the knee injury in April that has ruled her out of this year's National Games. 'My foot got stuck under the person tackling me, then somebody hit me from above, and my body and knee twisted,' said Wright, who had surgery at London's Fortius Clinic last week. After hoping she had sustained only a meniscus tear, Wright's 'heart sank' when scans revealed the true picture. 'My physio was with me … we couldn't speak,' she said. 'I felt disbelief and shock. The first two weeks were brutal.' The 28-year-old first tore her ACL in August 2023, shortly before Hong Kong's women claimed Asian Games bronze.
